Coffee, Tea, Water in refillable mugs

Per this website it says
"The coffee, water, and iced tea dispensers don’t read the chip in your mug, so there’s no wait period - just fill up as often as you’d like. "

So to get coffee, water and tea- can you use any mug, IF the dispenser does not read the chip on the mug ?

Don’t do that. Use the mug you paid for.

Editing: it’s fine with water. That’s free. The water doesn’t require a chip. Go for it.

But for items that have a price attached to them, like coffee and tea and hot chocolate, use the paid mug.

When I stayed at the Contemporary last year, I brought my beloved ceramic mug from home to have my hot tea in. I took my refillable mug with me so no one thought I was scamming but put my hot tea in my ceramic mug.

Now, my son put hot coffee in his mug but we found we couldn't 100% get the coffee taste out of it so he felt like he could notice that when he got water or soda later on.

I bring a little toiletry bottle filled with Dawn dish soap to wash refillable mugs out between uses. It gets everything out. Coffee, tea, you name it.

We must be super tasters then. I always take a small container of Dawn with me on a trip and keep in the room to wash out dishes but the flavor seemed to get embedded in that mug.

The only free beverage at WDW is water. Anything else, you are expected to pay for, or use your refillable mug, if you've bought one. Some of the beverage types (coffee, iced tea, etc) that are on the refillable mug program don't have a chip reader on their dispenser, but it doesn't mean they're free.

It's not just you - a magic eraser & detergent helped a bit, but the cross-taste still lingered. BW bakery gave me a paper cup to fill once I mentioned it (yes, I had my refillable mug with me).

What drinks can I get with the mug?

The selection of drinks varies a bit by resort, but all resorts offer soda, water, hot chocolate, iced tea, coffee, and hot water for tea. In the soda dispenser, you’ll find Coke products: the usual suspects like Coke & Diet Coke, various other sodas and fruit-flavored non-carbonated drinks.

Milk, fruit juices, and premium coffees and other beverages are not available with the mug and can be purchased separately.

I agree.Once coffee hots the mug, it's all I can taste. I liked it when Disney left disposable cups in the room. I would drag my mug to the food court so the CM's knew I was not stealing coffee, but used one of the disposable cups. I liked the refillable mug for water by the pool. I always buy a mug as a a souvenier so I think this trip I will do what you suggest, use my new cup for coffee, and just bring the refillable mug with me to the food court.
