coffee question

it just amazes me that with all of the advances in Disney Dining-there are some fairly sophisticated restaurants there now...that they are still serving NESCAFE

Patricia

I'm sure the reason has to do with Disney's sponsorship deal with Nestle, who makes Nescafe. Nestle sponsors "The Land" area of Epcot, and WDW seems to have many merchandise deals worked out with companies who sponsor attractions in the parks.

P.S. As I said earlier, to each his own. Case in point . . . I hate Starbucks coffee (and I'm a coffee lover). I think it tastes bitter. Especially for $4 a cup!

If they are serving ground Nescafe, then that is a step up at least. Almost all WDW restaurants used to serve the kind made from Nescafe coffee sludge. I swear, it was a liquid that they made the coffee from. :crazy2: We only get coffee at two places at WDW, Boma & Kona Cafe. (We don't use Nestle products because of their fomula programme in poor countries. But that is a whole other debate.)

I'm not wild about Starbucks coffee either. It tastes over-roasted to me--if that makes sense--almost burned. I do love their mochas though, 'cause they're not stingy with the chocolate and whipped cream.

This trip we are staying at AKL and I understand you can get Kenyan pressed coffee at least at Boma...I plan to try it but I empathize and I don't understand why this is still so difficult....

We are counting on good coffee from the espresso machine in the concierge lounge - hopefully with an intrevenous line. :rotfl:

What an awesome thread! :thumbsup2 I thought I was the only person who'd be concerned about coffee. It's nice to know I'm not alone!

Has anyone brought in those International Delights creamers into the park? The indiviaully packed ones? Was wondering if they would allow that in.
Hmmm...for that matter....do they allow any snack food into the park? I've smuggled in stuff at DL, but not sure how extensive of a search they do at WDW. (Maybe I better find a thread about that. Aaarrgghh....so much to read about...so little time!)

They search bags, purses, etc. but do not care about snacks - bring what you want in.

Nescafe coffee is just plain NASTY. It has to be the worst excuse for coffee I have ever had. They have Starbucks at the Swan & Dolphin resorts. :)

Last July, we asked about the coffee at several of the restaraunts around (mostly resorts, but some others). We were told consistantly that it was in fact Nescafe, but not instant. It is a special groung coffee that they make for restaraunt use. Our server at 'Ohana went into further detail than anyone. She said people hear Nescafe, and they automatically assume that it is instant. I would imagine the varied coffee experiences are due to different people preparing it, different coffee pots, etc. Kind of like Iced tea tastes so different at different places - and sometimes even the same place, but different "batches". Just depends on how "heavy" or "light" handed people are when measuring. From what I understood, they come in big industrial size bags and not in premeasured containers.

This is a really good point-Not only is the coffee foul :stir: IMO, but so are some of their policies.

fitzperry-the Starbucks mochas are pretty tasty-chocolate, whipped cream, shot or two of espresso what's not to like? :thumbsup2 Ironically, sometimes the longer they roast coffee, the smoother it becomes-It really depends on the variety and bean and the roaster

florafauna-I'm not sure but the coffee in Tony's might be illy-which is an Italian brand-pretty common in their supermarkets but more of an upscale item in the US...

Which actually got me thinking shouldn't the coffee in World Showcare be decent, I mean especially in Italy? ( and maybe France as well?) or are they bound to use Nescafe as well even though no true Italian would be caught dead drinking it-they would be booted out of the country :rotfl2: ...

So what we've ascertained is
1. If you like Nescafe-you are in luck
2. Kona Cafe in the Poly is a coffee sanctuary...
3. Boma does serves a pressed pot of Kenyan for an added fee...
4. Swan and Dolphin serve Starbucks (Do they actually have a Starbucks consession inside or are they simply brewing SBcoffee-which hey is still a step in the right direction...
5. Tony's might have illy-Has anyone seen this on any other menus?
6. and I'm bringing some of my own coffee at least for my room which is supposed to have a coffee maker...

Did I miss anything-Do we need a support group :grouphug: ? (How about ISDCD-In Search of Decent Cofee at Disney?)

Looks like I'll be bringing hot chocolate packages to dump in my coffee! At least it gives the extra kick! <remember to add to the 4 page list I got going and NOT remove it!> :lmao: pirate: Arrg!

Just got back yesterday went with my best friend and her sister in law and BF is especially picky about her coffee. She threw out a full cup from the Boardwalk Bakery after one sip. She had a latte at the Grand Flordian which looked wonderful and was a good size in a round latte cup. At Spoodles for breakfast the coffee was good and I asked the waiter if it was Nescafe which he said it was but they used the whole bean which made it taste better. We walked over to the Dolphin to Picabu when I told BF they served Starbucks but she was expecting a full service location. So she was disappointed but still bought a cup. Obviously not on Disney property, I did see a Starbucks at CityWalk when we went to Emeril's for dinner. I guess next time if BF and I go again we will need to bring our own coffee.

Just got back from Poly yesterday. I highly recommend the pressed pot at the Kona Cafe. It was great :thumbsup2

If you don't have time for a sit down, then go to the Kona Cafe coffee bar and get a cup. It's much better than the rest of the stuff around the parks.

I was not aware Boma also had a pressed pot :woohoo:
