My coffee maker finally stopped woking today. It's been awhile since I bought a coffee pot! Any recommendations??? My last one was a Krups which make really good coffee??????? Help!

I am on my second Braun. We think it makes great coffee. Its not a fancy model. Just your basic coffee maker.

We have the Kitchen Aid Pro Line and we LOVE it! We had a KA coffee grinder that started to malfunction and had metal shavings in the coffee. (it was recalled and we didn't know it) We called KA and they said that it was discontinued so they were sending us the next model up which was the Pro Line grinder. We needed a new coffee maker and decided to get the same line and we couldn't be happier. We love the customer service and quality of KA. It is a pricey little machine but we have found it to be worth it.

My best contribution in those threads:
I have to vote against Bunn. While it does make great coffee if you make it correctly, if you don't follow the instructions perfectly every time, it is not very forgiving. And first-degree burns still hurt -- a lot. And the coffee is not noticeably better than the coffee I've made with several other coffee makers in recent years.

This is the later version of our current favorite: http://www.cuisinart.com/products/coffee_bar/dcc-755bk.html
It has no warmer element; the coffee stays piping hot in the insulated carafe for at least four hours. And the coffee never gets that "over-toasted" flavor. I love that aspect. Programmable, easy to keep clean. Makes excellent tasting coffee (which means that it gets the water up to a high-enough temperature -- that's typically the difference between good coffee from a coffee maker and great coffee from a coffee maker).

It has a cone-type filter basket, which I believe is essential for automatic drip coffee makers (and one of my biggest problems with the Bunn was that it has a flat-bottomed "Mr. Coffee" filter basket). Do note, though, that some Cuisinart coffee makers don't have the cone-type filter basket, so don't choose some other Cuisinart without checking. There are different product lines, and chances are that our good experience with this coffee maker applies only to other Cuisinart coffee makers with a cone-type filter basket. (Do keep in mind that when you grind coffee, it is typically better to grind it a little finer for cone-type filter baskets.)

One complaint: The steal-a-cup feature isn't very robust, IMHO. Be careful. And if you're very impatient, then perhaps this other coffee maker is better:

This is what we replaced. Great coffee. Also used the cone-type filter basket. The switch broke after three years, though, and repair was beyond our capabilities (and more expensive than was warranted).

Another coffee maker that makes excellent coffee (the absolute BEST) is the Bodum Santos:

The problem is that Bodum mostly makes stove-top coffee makers. Their electronics are pretty iffy. We had ours replaced three times under warranty (no questions asked; quick and efficient service, but still we were without the device for a few weeks each time). Bodum actually has discontinued the line! You can only get left-overs at this point, and they're sold-out in most places. A shame.

We bought a Hamilton Beach Brewstation 12-cup model for work, and I liked it so much we bought one for home when our home machine went down. I like that you disburse the coffee directly to your cup--no coffee pot to clean. And it turns off automatically after 2 hours, so you don't have to worry about the coffee burning.

When we redid our kitchen, we bought a new Cuisinart Grind and Brew Thermal coffeemaker. DH's new office had a similar model in their kitchen and he really liked the coffee and functionality. The MSRP was pricey, but we had a Costco rebate check and they had the model we wanted on sale. I think our cost ended up being $25.

It grinds the coffee beans right before brewing so they're fresh. You can also turn off the grind feature if you want to use pre-ground coffee.

It has a thermal carafe, so there's no hotplate under the pot. Saves energy, doesn't burn the coffee or the pot, and it's less risky.

It has a clock and timer that lets us set up the coffee in the evening and it grinds/brews at 7am the next morning.

If we're really desparate for coffee, it lets you snatch a single cup then pause the brewing while we put the carafe in place.

It's easy to clean and set up, plus it looks good on our countertop.

I used to drive through Dunkin' Donuts every morning on my way to work for coffee. It was hit and miss; at times the coffee would be burnt-tasting or they'd prepare it wrong.

Now, we just buy the DD beans at BJ's in bulk and make cofee at home, which is less expensive and more convenient.

I used one of these until just a year or two ago. My mom always made her coffee that way and it makes the best coffee IMO. I accidentally turned on the wrong burner one day while the coffee pot was on the stove empty and it exploded! What a mess! I did purchase another off of e-bay but it was a different cup size and I just never could get my coffee consistency just right. So now I am using a regular old coffee maker. It takes a lot less time to make coffee but it's not as good.

I have Cuisinart's Coffee on Demand. It keeps the coffee very hot. you just press the lever to get a cupful.
