Coffee on the Verandah -The Last Slide, Recap & Souvies 5/29 - Link to Aulani TR 5/31

Great update!

How cool that Vero has different activities like archery for guests to try out!

What is lurking in the bushes? Is that a rabbit?

Great update!:thumbsup2

My boys would have chose archery as well...Nick especially. He loves archery which he just discovered after a unit in gym class. Glad Eric had some success after being so frustrated. It sounds like the pool was just what was needed. Too funny about the pool game.....sounds like something my boys would do.:rotfl:

Sorry about your OKW mug.:( Glad you were able to get a Vero one though....:goodvibes

I enjoyed your update!

My husband owned a compound bow when he was a kid, and our boys have had some exposure to bows and arrows.

There is a day camp less than a half-mile from my house. They offer archery during the camp and you can also sign up for just archery as a separate program. This year, there were a lot more girls taking the class than in the past (Hunger Games, anyone?)

Loved the descriptions of the boys as they took their shots!

Poop Noodles! :rotfl2:

Bummer about the coffee mug :sad1:

Next up: Have fun! That is all.

Bummer on the mug! That stinks and is very irritating. Did you take it back (I hope)?

ARchery? Who knew? I was definitely thinking more beach time. :beach:

It's pretty cool that they put a soccer field (despite its size) in there. I tried to find the pictures of my kids kicking the soccer ball all over the yard right outside the back of the inn. Maybe they got tired of too many kids doing the same thing?

Pretty pictures. It looks like a fun activity.

I hope you get to dinner on time, but I'm doubtful.

My son is a total perfectionist, also! And, also has no patience if he can't master something new the first time he tries it!! No concept of practice makes perfect :confused3

Too bad about the mug, I do tend to put whatever I can in the dishwasher, even if it has a sticker--I bought stainless steel water bottles that say they're not dw safe. Come on, really? But especially a coffee mug! Weird.

First, thanks for the info on the OKW Mug. After I saw yours, I had to have my own and bought one last month. The only time I use my dishwasher is at the holidays when we have people over, and I'll be sure NOT to put my mug in the dishwasher.

I'm glad I was able to warn you ahead of time. It is a great mug. BUt oh, I can't imagine only using the dishwasher when I had people over. UGH!

I can't keep up with the dishes even using the dishwasher daily!

:rotfl2:

I love your update. Eric and Evan crack me up. You can almost see that Eric is frustrated in his pictures, and Evan just gives off that "I'm good looking and suave look" in his pictures. ;)

Yep, that's them in a nutshell.

That is too funny about Jeff kicking the ball into the archery section. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

It was funny, and when it happened, I wasn't surprised. Just pretended I didn't know them. :rotfl:

And why is it they ALWAYS have more of a selection for men in the type of shirts we want? I do sleep in nightshirts, but I would rather have a t-shirt.

As always, enjoyed the update.

It seems so backwards, doesn't it? Should be more women's items...

Archery huh? Well that seems like a fun choice... nice size group...I liked your photo of everyone on the move...;)

Evan loved it. Eric was dissapointed but he did get over it.

Poor Eric... He's a perfectionist ... he wants to be good and gets frustrated when it doesn't go the way he wants it do... (I think it's much easier to be like Evan and go with the flow...) I've got a little perfectionist and because he is so good academically it's really hard to get him to realize that sometimes its just cool to do something new... and even if your not great the first time out it's ok... you try stuff and see if you like them... and you can get better...

That is Eric's issue in a nutshell. Big picture I do think it's easier to be Evan but it would be nice if some of the go with the flow could rub off on Eric and some of the perfectionist could rub off on Evan. :rotfl2:

(Strangely both of my kids wanted to do the LL Bean Discovery School when we were in Maine and they wanted to do archery too... Hmmm... the thought of Emily armed with bow and arrow...:scared: )

I think you should have sent out a call for Captain Morgan to bring you some rum... pirate: (have you seen those new commercials... they make me laugh...)

Oh man, I didn't think of that. Those commercials crack me up! Emily with a bow and arrow....oh my. I'd be scared too.

Oh Cynthia that stinks about your mug... I know that must have been frustrating... I collect mugs from different places we go... that would have upset me... (On the positive side you'll be going to DWD really soon so you can get something new...

It was a huge bummer. I collect them and just found out about a month ago Jeff had broken my flower and garden one from 2011. :sad1:

But yes, I may well come home with a new mug VERY soon!

Turtle Walk ... woo hoot ....:cool1:

:thumbsup2

You probably won't believe me, but I knew it was archery and didn't want to spoil it. I don't remember how I knew...it wasn't an Instagram pic...maybe some other correspondence.

Yep, PM. We were chatting about activities and I'd asked if James had tried it as I knew the boys wanted to. I didn't mention we had done it though but I imagine you recall me asking about it.

Hey, thanks for the shout out! It's funny how we took similar pictures of the walk over across the street. Well maybe not, what else is there to photograph?

:rotfl: I thought about taking pictures of the tunnel and thought "oh people have seen it" but really should have realized that lots haven't!

Yes, I thought that soccer field looked a little small. It must be hard to keep the ball in play (and out of the archery range :rotfl:).

It was a tiny field, small sides size...for Kindergartners!

Great update!

How cool that Vero has different activities like archery for guests to try out!

They really have a nice line up of things, I'm glad we were able to take advantage of a few of them.

What is lurking in the bushes? Is that a rabbit?

yep, a very cute little rabbit.

I am glad we did it, it was nice to break it up even though I could have stayed at the beach for the rest of the day. I think it made for a better day overall for them.

Sorry about your OKW mug.:( Glad you were able to get a Vero one though....:goodvibes

I was very sad!

I enjoyed your update!

My husband owned a compound bow when he was a kid, and our boys have had some exposure to bows and arrows.

Both boys have done it before, Eric far more recently than Evan but it's always a big hit. I think Eric was so shocked it wasn't as easy as he expected that he couldn't regroup.

LOL on the Hunger Games comment. I loved archery as a kid too...

Loved the descriptions of the boys as they took their shots!

Poop Noodles! :rotfl2:

They were having fun with it that's for sure!

Bummer about the coffee mug :sad1:
It was a big bummer
Next up: Have fun! That is all.

Thanks, we will! ONE more sleep! :cheer2:

Bummer on the mug! That stinks and is very irritating. Did you take it back (I hope)?

At that point in the trip I wasn't planning on it as I was thinking it was my fault, should have read the sticker so was just going to suck it up, I mean it's not like we were going back to OKW. However, by the next day I think, it occurred to me that since the kids didn't know we were going to AKV it would be easy enough to stop by OKW on the way there and so I mentioned to Jeff that I wanted to try, if there was time.

I had mixed feelings about it. I mean, who makes a coffee cup that can't go in the dishwasher? I probably have 10 disney mugs and have never had one that couldn't before. But still, it did have sticker.

ARchery? Who knew? I was definitely thinking more beach time. :beach:

I'd have taken more beach time but arrows won out. I am glad they did it, it was fun to explore more of what the resort had to offer.

It's pretty cool that they put a soccer field (despite its size) in there. I tried to find the pictures of my kids kicking the soccer ball all over the yard right outside the back of the inn. Maybe they got tired of too many kids doing the same thing?

Yep, I bet your boys drove them to putting in a field across the street :rotfl2: I bet people still kick the ball on that lawn, despite the field across the street. We sure didn't see anyone else trying to use it!

Pretty pictures. It looks like a fun activity.

And the best part was, it was free!

I hope you get to dinner on time, but I'm doubtful.

Now whatever in the world would make you say that?

I'm going to have you paranoid now about us missing our ADR's. :rotfl:

The first of which is TOMORROW night! :cool1::cool1:

My son is a total perfectionist, also! And, also has no patience if he can't master something new the first time he tries it!! No concept of practice makes perfect :confused3

I feel your pain, it is very frustrating on the other side. Honestly, we thought Eric was just lazy for the longest time. It wasn't until Kindergarten, when his teacher pointed out that he was a perfectionist that we reconsidered it. Truth be told, we didn't believe her. So we tested it at dinner that night after the teacher conference where she told us this. At the time he was refusing to try to spell. We thought, lazy. We were out at a Mexican restaurant where they had the kids menu with coloring. It was a Halloween one. He wanted to write Happy Halloween on it. Had an absolute fit and melt down when we wouldn't tell him how to spell it, wanting him to try and sound it out.

He didn't want it to be wrong. Still doesn't.

Too bad about the mug, I do tend to put whatever I can in the dishwasher, even if it has a sticker--I bought stainless steel water bottles that say they're not dw safe. Come on, really? But especially a coffee mug! Weird.

I do the same thing with lots of stuff, but put it in the top rack. I can only handwash so much! ITA on the SS bottles, it's steel people! Yeah, a coffee mug. Didn't occur to me to even check. Who makes a coffee cup that can't go in the dishwasher? I probably own 10 Disney mugs (ok maybe not 10 since Jeff has broken at least one) and put them all in the DW with no issues, I assumed the same would be true of this one.

Only one person guessed correctly, and even identified the activity!

One slushie credit for Mark (aka Captian Oblivious)!

slushie-credit.png

:cool1::woohoo::yay::banana:

Total wild guess, too! And thanks for the shameless plug!

The guy on the fence cracked me up. I saw him everywhere during our stay.
And he never had shoes on.

That's...weird.

Oops, not an arrow, a soccer ball. Some over zealous kicking for a field the size it was.

:lmao::rotfl2:

Who was struggling

And didn't handle it very well. He’ had been at Boy Scout camp just a few weeks prior, and had done quite well at archery. He'd expected it to be similar and to just ace it without having to work, focus or maybe even dare I say pay attention to the instructions.

Eric is a perfectionist and when frustrated can default to not wanting to try… if he can't do it well. He was on the verge of a meltdown.

Uh oh. I know that feeling.

Maybe because I was known to act that way on occasion...

Before I could go try to re-calibrate him…

He cracks me up, I swear it’s as much about the look and pose as anything! He did pretty well though so clearly whatever look he was going for, worked.

He does look pretty much like Robin Hood.

eff kicked it right into the archery range.

Talk about a party foul!

D'oh!

Now what you can't see in the pictures is that the pink shirt at the bottom, which was a night shirt, was the only item with the Minnie and Turtle Vero logo. This bummed me out to no end. I love that design and had been dreaming about a souvie with it, for months. Literally.

Sorry. That's a bummer. :(

Frankly, it seemed unfair. 4 mens Vero specific T shirts and all us girls got was...a nightshirt.

Maybe they meant the other shirts to be unisex? My wife will often grab a mens t-shirt if she likes it enough. Not that it would help here since it didn't have the design you wanted. :confused3

Heading back to the room, I made myself an adult beverage for the pool and went to pull out my new old key west mug from the dishwasher.

Apparently, it wasn't dishwasher safe. :sad1:

NOOOOOOOOO!

It had never, ever, occurred to me that a coffee cup would not be dishwasher safe.:confused3 Sure, I knew the new salad servers I'd bought at WOD, which are melamine, weren't dishwasher safe but a coffee cup? Who makes a coffee cup that can't go in the dishwasher? Unless maybe it has a metallic rim?

Yeah, I never would have dreamed that, either. That does seem pretty useless.

Little boys making farting noises with the noodles.

:rotfl:

If you blow into them it can make a farting noise.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Which can become a contest if you find it funny enough. And it squirts water, even better. Poop noodles, they decided to call it, and were just having a blast squirting and farting water left and right. It's the little things, right?

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Naturally, I find this all very juvenile and can't believe you would include it in this TR. :rolleyes1

Have a great time in the World!

:cool1::woohoo::yay::banana:

Total wild guess, too! And thanks for the shameless plug!

Methinks perhaps you'd have chosen archery if you were 12 or 13. Hence the spot on guess.

Any time!

That's...weird.

It gets weirder

He does look pretty much like Robin Hood.

Oh he would LOVE that!

Maybe they meant the other shirts to be unisex? My wife will often grab a mens t-shirt if she likes it enough. Not that it would help here since it didn't have the design you wanted. :confused3

I do think that is why they do it. But we only buy them if we are desperate and like the design enough. They just don't fit the same. I've stopped doing it as no matter how much I like the design, I won't wear it as it doesn't fit right. I still think it's crummy and cheap of them. :rotfl:

NOOOOOOOOO!

Yeah, I never would have dreamed that, either. That does seem pretty useless.

Seriously. What were they thinking? It was bad enough when the custom coffee cups I had made at Zazzle faded in the dishwasher. this, this wasn't fading...it melted!

Which kind of creeped me out actually. It was an older dishwasher and while certainly things got sanitzed within an inch of their life in there...to have it melt??????

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Naturally, I find this all very juvenile and can't believe you would include it in this TR. :rolleyes1

Have a great time in the World!

I can't believe you didn't think of it first. Something to remember for your next pool adventure that involves noodles.

Thanks and I will!!! almost at the 24 hour mark till my plane departs.

Oh, my boys totally would have chosen archery too, especially Jared who discovered it at camp last year and loves it. Anything that may challenge them and/or that they can turn into a contest would be chosen over the beach. I would much rather lay on the beach, stupid boys! :rotfl:

Sorry about your mug, that stinks :worried:

Hmmm, boys finding something that sounds like flatulence funny, I can't imagine.....

Stupid boys is right!

:rotfl:

The E's are inconsistent in this. For example flag football held no interest. :confused3 Which I'd expect with Eric but surprised me out of Evan. Kendall kept trying to talk him into it and he had zero interest.

Sorry about your mug, that stinks :worried:

It totally stunk!

Hmmm, boys finding something that sounds like flatulence funny, I can't imagine.....

Go figure, huge shocker huh.

thats a big 9 year old in the first row.;)

Yes, big kids who can't let their little kids try without "help". As you can see the kids in the front are not so little they couldn't have tried on their own or at least had the parent step to the side. Can you say helicopter?

archery is always a good skill to have look how it helped katniss in the hunger games:thumbsup2

Plus she looked good doing it!

I'm so sorry I was behind again and now your headed back to the World. I hope you have a fabulous time.

Loving your report. I can relate to your meltdown. I have to admit to doing the same thing. Why can't they just read our minds? I'm glad you got some beach time in, it's the best way to relax.

Danielle would have gone for the archery too. She's very into the Hunger Games. That series has turned her into a "reader".

Sorry about the coffee mug. Talk about a total meltdown.

Have a great time on your girls trip Cynthia! I'm so incredibly jealous. I've vowed that I will not miss F&W two years in a row, I will be there next year!

Hi guys! I'm on the plane so thought I'd say a quick hello. I should have wifi in the flight so may be posting from 35,000 feet :)
