This is not for me (I'm a tea drinker) but 3 DD's are big coffee drinkers, so:

How do large families go about making coffee in the villas with the coffee maker provided? Is it still the "pod" coffee things? If so, how much do they make per serving?

DD's are trying to decide whether to order coffee from Garden Grocer, ask if we can have more from the resort, or maybe splurging and getting some Joffrey's while in WDW.

Any suggestions appreciated!!!

Are you asking about coffee in a DVC villa or a regular hotel room? All DVC villas have full-size Mr. Coffee type machines with the flat bottom filter. They are 10-12 cup size. You will get one starter pack of regular coffee and one pack of decaf (usually). You need to plan on bringing/buying your own preferred brand. Don't forget the filters.

Regular hotel rooms use pod type (not Keurig) machines.

Thank you so much! We are in a villa, so as long as they bring coffee and the flat bottom filters, they are all set? :)

Do you order coffee from Garden Grocer, or just buy on site when you arrive?

Yes, that's all you need. We buy off property at Publix or Winn Dixie. True coffee drinkers will not even look at the stuff they sell on site. It is bad. I don't even like Joffrey's to be honest. If you are ordering from Garden Grocer I would find out what they like and just get that. Don't forget cream/sugar/sweetener if they use it.

Also, you can get more from housekeeping, but you have to pay for it. I believe a coffee pack is $2-3. Not worth it in my opinion. Those packs only make 4-6 cups too.

When you arrive, there will be two packs (coffee in a self-contained filter) to make two pots of coffee, one regular, one decaf, although sometimes we have found two regulars. Those packs actually are Joffrey's. You can buy more coffee at the resort store or possibly get more packs through housekeeping, but unless you like paying a fortune for coffee, you will be better off either bringing what you need or buy elsewhere such as Garden Grocer. Note, be aware that delivery services like Garden have minimum purchase levels so you may not be able to buy just coffee; another possibility is ordering through Amazon.com.

Definitely buy off-site or pack in your carry-on. Disney coffee is nasty. I won't even entertain the notion of drinking their free Joffrey packs, as they are so weak that they resemble tea in the carafe. The only DVC shop that I have found good coffe in is at AKV Jambo. They had some Sulawesi last time I was there that was good, but in their infinite wisdom, you can't be sure they still carry it.

We also pack ours. Its the only time I go and buy ground coffee, but we like what we like - and no guarantees that what you like will be sold at a Florida Publix. (Caribou's Peaberry when its in season). So if your DDs are coffee snobs, get a consensus on what they want - and send one of them off to buy it and pack it.

The packs that are provided only make 4-6 cups of coffee depending on the strength you like. With coffee lovers, you'd be better off bringing your own filters, coffee, creamer, sweetener, whatever you need to make it your way.

The day before our Disney trips, I make a run to Starbucks. I have them ground me up a half a pound of my favorite coffee (Verona) and I just pack it, so simple. Then, when I get there I grab some creamers from the quick service at the resort (after asking of course).

That's so funny that you both think the pods are only good for 4-6 cups. We are happy filling the carafe (which provides a little more than 10 cups), stronger than that would be hard to handle. We pretty much always bring coffee (and the filters) from home. The times I have asked for a refill from the ladies I have never been charged. I think Joffrey's is way better than what they had before, but probably still better to get what the girls like from GG or bring from home.

If you like hot dish water then those pods work great. True coffee lovers wouldn't even look twice at that swill. :)

The mickey stuff? Sure. The bags at AKV is good though.

And in my experience that's Joffreys. :)

Disagree. :)

I love the Joffrey's. Granted, they set the bar rather low poisoning us with instant nescrape for all those years, but I really do enjoy the Joffrey's. It's worth getting the refillable mug for, IMHO. :)

Listen hear ya newbie, don't come waltzing in here spouting off your "True coffee lover" credentials. I didn't give Joffrey's the seal of approval, just said it was better than what they had before. Maybe that was before your time, (I see you didn't buy in until 2004) I don't know, but I don't consider myself at that elite level anyway. I am a 'real coffee drinker', had bad and had good but prefer the good but mostly the healthy. The best of luck to you on your journey for the perfect cup of coffee :coffee:;)

To stay on topic OP you have heard it from the resident True coffee lover, don't drink the coffee in WDW. :joker:
