Is coffee included with dessert or does it count as a beverage?

Lately the reply I get is that coffee is not included with DDP because "you already ordered one drink, which is all that is included in the dining plan, and you will have to pay for a cup of coffee if you want it with your dessert." I always think, "Come on, how much does that one cup of coffee cost, anyway?" I don't say this out loud, and if we were at home, the tip would be a little less if the waiter said this to us. (I am have my flame suit on, but will not respond to any flames this time, so flame away if you wish, it is just the way I feel). Of course, this rarely happens, so it is not a problem for the most part. But, I really wonder why a restaurant would do this, it is just a cup of coffee. :santa:

How much is it worth to you? :)

Figure that if it is worth drinking, it is worth paying for, at least to enough folks.

When using the DDP I find it easier to get water with my meal (or an adult beverage) and use my drink choice for coffee at the end of my meal. I have found that the only time I'm been offered coffee as an additional beverage has been at a signature restraurant. I also agree, on the occassion when I want ice tea, I'll just pay for the coffee OOP.

Yeah, I know. But I am just spoiled, I guess. Coffee and dessert just go together, and I am used to the server just bringing coffee, or at least offering it. I think it is different if you request a spcialty coffee (cappuccino, etc) than when you just want a cup of regular coffee to go with dessert. Not a really big deal for me, I just love my coffee, and if I wanted it that badly I would pay for it, but I am not really that crazy about WDW coffee anyway.

Great idea, however I am never sure if the water will taste good. Sometimes it is clean tasting (I am sure when it is filtered) and other times it may taste nasty.

Bring some of those little tubes of flavored drink powder to hide the taste of the water - yes, even in table service restaurants :)

I totally agree! I love my coffee too (see tag) and it is the only way I know of to end a meal. (start a day, take a break etc...:rolleyes1 ). I always thought coffee in restaurants should be gratis if you were ordering a dessert....I just thought it'd be something the customers would appreciate..on the other hand I can understand that coffee, sugar and creamer costs must add up in the end and hence they charge.................sigh.

I'll just see what the evening calls for and go along with that. It's vacation right? No letting small annoyances become big ones..(actually it's my motto in all of life..there's so much "big" stuff to really keep you busy, the small stuff should melt away)

I doubt it has much to do with cost. It's really more about value. They charge us for things we find worth paying for.

I don't know about that...Would you pay for a fastpass? Water at your table? A clean bathroom?

They could charge us for these things, yet they don't because it adds to our sense of an enjoyable experience.

Does anyone know why an Americano is so expensive at Tutto Italia? I mean it's around $4 at most coffee shops and $10 at Tutto. I wondered if it has alcohol in it for that price.:confused3

I would definitely pay for FastPasses -- I've commented several times about how I find it strange that they don't have a pay-for-FastPass system. And if push came to shove, and water became a significant expense, I would expect to pay for it.

I think your other example is a bit esoteric. I expect a clean bathroom at the town library.

I'm just having fun. On the coast some of the beaches charge a quarter for the restrooms!

The answer to your question is that it depends on where you go, and maybe even the server you get. Technically, you are entitle to only one non-alcoholic beverage. The reality is that the server can probably almost always put a coffee through as a plan item, even if you have already had another beverage, but not all servers try I guess. We always get coffee at Le Cellier and have never been charged. I always get a cappucino or latte at Narcoossees and have never been charged. Last time around my wife also got the $5.00 pot of pressed coffee and wasn't charged. Last time we ate at Brown Derby we were charged for coffee.

Thanks. I will simply ask for my coffee and however they deem fit to charge it will be all right by me. I'm easy going like that!;) especially after I've had my coffee!
