Coffee hunt...who's got the best?

Hello All! I am new here and I love this site it is a great place for information. Where can I find the (Market house) I cannot find it on the map?

Sternfanla - welcome!!!! I assume you are a fan of Howard? (Or is it another Stern? Well, you found another one here! What are the odds of two Disney/Howard buffs being on the same board? And are you in Los Angeles too - so am I! Or maybe you meant LA as in Lousiana?

Anyway, welcome again - this IS a great site with lots of good people and great information and a passion for Disney!

Does DLH have coffee makers in the rooms? we roast our own and I'd prefer to have my own brewed in the room. (I guess I could bring my own but it would be interesting on the plane! :) )

The DLH does have coffee makers in their rooms. I have heard that if for some reason you don't find one in the room when you get there, just call down to the front desk and they'll have one brought up to you immediately.

I prefer to grind my own beans fresh and brew as well. Buying mediocre coffee in and around the parks just isn't worth it to me.

Thanks! It'll make life much easier on me in the morning. :woohoo:

There is an espresso place (espresso cart) located near the California Dreaming exhibit in DCA that makes pretty good lattes. They use a nice quality syrup and the iced carmel latte isn't half bad. If you drink it iced, they can't screw up the milk and alter the taste of the coffee. So as long as they pull a good shot, you are pretty safe.

If you are used to European style coffee (espresso etc, not iced and flavoured) made by hand/machine and not by automatic machine (as starbucks do now), then there really isn't anywhere. The roast is too light, and, machines can't beat people! If you try to recreate that then, Compass is best, and there is a starbucks located in the Hilton.

However, although I do miss that sort of coffee when in Dl, the iced/flavoured variety from the places named by OPs are fine. WE just change our habits to suit the place!

Hello Sherry E. I am a Huge fan of Howard. I live just outside of Los Angeles In Alhambra. And it is great to have at least 2 Stern buffs on this board. I have been lurking around here ever since my wife and I bought our AP. I have learned so much from you guys thanks to everyone.:cool1:

Personally I think that the best coffee at DLR is at the Bakersfield Express Bakery right inside the gates of DCA. The coffee and baked goods are similiar to that of the Blue Ribbon but with half the line! My fall favorite is the pumpkin latte with a mickey pumpkin muffin.

Awesome...I could totally tell you are from Seattle even before I saw your screenname. :thumbsup2

I couldnt agree more. Can't screw up an iced drink as long as the shots are good. Not too early (weak) not too late (burnt)....has to be perfect. :goodvibes

I actually just got done grinding a bunch of beans to take with us as a last resort. At least I can have a quick cup before my quest for the ultimate satisfaction in the form of a latte begins. :lovestruc

Most of the coffee at DLR is dreadful (Nescafe), but Compass Books at the end of DtD (near the DL Hotel) has "real" coffee.

i second this. I absolutely refuse to go to starbucks. THeir coffee is disgusting. though i go to coffee bean instead. Compass Book Coffee is probably the best coffee ive ever had...

Nobody has mentioned that you can get the New Orleans chicory coffee at Ralph Brenan's Jazz Kitchen quick-serve walk up. That stuff is so smooth... I like it really early in the morning with beneigts, when we actually stay over at the hotels.

Not a Starbucks fan at all - the burnt thing does me in. Even though it smells like it's burning, they do roast a lot of beans at the DCA Bakery. (Haven't been able to smell it all lately though - have they stopped or have they gotten a better air filter, due to the smell complaints?) They have a decent cup of coffee in latte form.

The Vanilla and Hazelnut at the Market House are good - they are the Mickey's Coffee Company coffee - we have them do a half decaf (or caf) and half Vanilla usually. Can't be the price and the free refills!

Yes, there are at least two of us SoCal Stern fans over on DISboards (I have been listening for 17 years)!!! I used to belong to a couple of Howard boards, but the people are much nicer to chat with over here on DISboards, to be honest!!!!

And whether you lurk or actually participate in the threads here on DISboards, you can learn so much! Everyone has great knowledge and tips to share from their own experiences. As big a Disney buff as we each are, there is always more to learn, because there is always that one person who will have discovered something in Disneyland that someone else has not seen or tried yet, so each person has something to contribute which may be helpful to everyone else! Since you and your wife have AP's, you will probably be going to DLR a lot, so by being on this board you can pick up tips to make each trip more interesting, to make better use of your time, to eat the best food and to have the best time possible!

the CA coffee company Peets is actually much better (though I feel like a jerk ordering anything but pure coffee there, LOL).
ROTFL - About 6 years ago I went into a Peets and asked for a flavored latte -OMG the barista was a total snob and said with his nose in the air "we don't have flavored syrup here." I've never been back.

Then again, I don't drink coffee very often.

We've not had good coffee experiences in the park or in the hotels. The one thing that would make Disneyland perfect: Starbucks.

But, we've got that Northwest coffee snob thing going on, so we're doomed just about anywhere we travel.
Alas, too true.

The coffee that you bring from home and brew yourself in the hotel ;)
I wish Starbucks made travel-size pouches of coffee we could brew in our room. (And yes, I've suggested it.) ;)

And because some folks recommended it, I went to Compass Books on my last trip for a mocha. As usual, I asked the gal to make it a 'light mocha, just one pump of chocolate', and she looked so confused. I asked what was wrong, and she said she couldn't separate out the chocolate from the coffee, it was just all in a latte powder she mixes with hot water. :sad2:

And it wasn't great, but I drank it anyway. (What can I say, I'm cheap!) :confused3
