My DD wants to go to GWL for her b-day. I have to days picked out either 2/13 or 3/6. They are both on a Saturday, I'd love to do a weekday but my DH does not want to miss work.

Any codes for either month that fall on my days??

Her B-day is March 5th and she will be 11. She is bring one friend. We only live 25 minutes away so we know the area really well. Any suggestions or tips would be great too! Thanks!

Where in NC are you? There is one in Williamsburg as well. The Charlotte one does not have the Lazy River or the Flo Rider. I was a little sad when I found that out.

Biggest tip is get there early. You can use the park even before your room is ready and up until closing on your checkout day. Also, go first thing in the morning. There are generally just a few dozen people there and you can do lot without a wait.

Also, bring your own food. The rooms have microwaves and fridges. The food there is expensive. The Pizza Hut is even double the price of normal PH. We ordered Dominos and they delivered to the lobby.

We are going to the lodge in Concord next weekend...so excited!!! This will be our 2nd trip. It is wonderful! The staff there last time was beyond fabulous! Since it is fairly new, it is difficult to get deep discounts or lots of codes. I've tried with no luck. About the best I've seen is one for 30% off, but that one is not available right now that I know of. The 20% is pretty good for this location.

As far as other tips...check everything out on their website. There is lots to do there.

Concord Mills is very close, so there are lots of choices for eating fairly inexpensively (in the food court) or for a nicer meal...several restaurants right there. The restaurant/buffet in GWL was good when we went...a little pricey but not horribly so...good selection. I didn't like the Dunkin' Donuts there, so we will not be getting breakfast on site this time. There is a Pizza Hut Express...it was good, but no 'express' to it when we were there. :rotfl: The margaritas (on the rocks) at the outside bar were divine (but I'm assuming they won't be available during the winter), and the onion rings at the grill (which also has frozen margaritas) right there inside the water park were yummy.

My kiddoes didn't do the magiquest (and won't this time either), as there is plenty to do with just the water park and lobby shows at GWL and activities at Concord Mills (especially for a short, weekend trip). You can go to the water park anytime after opening on the day of your arrival (so go ahead and get there earlier than the posted check-in time). There are changing rooms available (they have quick suit dryers, too, so if you stay past checkout on the last day there, you can dry your bathing suit before getting in the car...no need to carry plastic bags for wet suits!) The hair/nail salon looked like lots of fun for girls your DD's age...it seemed pricey to me (I'm not a girly-girl & have never had my nails done) but the little ones in there seemed to be thrilled to be pampered. Might be a good birthday surprise. I will definitely do that one day with my little girl (not this trip...she's still too young).

You need a real credit card for almost all purchases. They "link" your card to a bracelet you wear that serves as your room key and to make all purchases (even from drink machines)...you don't have to carry any cash/change at all...just wave your bracelet in front of a scanner (limit the girls' access...they'll have the bracelets too). GWL claims they will not use a debit card for this, if I remember correctly.

If you have any questions, I'll be glad to try to help! Of course, I may know more after next weekend!! :cool1:

Thanks guys, love all the info. We have been to Concord Mills a bunch of times, DD loves the go carts and the Lego store. I love the Disney outlet.

We live 25 min north of GWL. The one in Virgina is hours away.

I'm going to have to call GWL, we do not have any CC. We have an emergency back-up through our Debit card, we bank at a Federal CU. I hope they allow it or it might bust the whole trip.

My DD loves Cracker B, DH loves the wing place across the street ( not Hooters but that other one). I thought about getting the pass for each girl, not the paw pass the $43 one. Do you think the water park is enough? We will only be there saturday and sunday.

Surely they have a way to put cash on your account for spending...hopefully! I'm not sure how you reserve a room without a CC. They are really eager to help, though, so if you give them a call, I know you will find them to be very helpful!

As far as getting passes, I'm telling you, the water park admission that comes included with your room fee is plenty, especially for first time and very short visits. The girls will be amazed just at the sight of the indoor park, most likely, and will want to spend all their time there. I had an extremely difficult time getting my kids out of the water park to go do other things...they were perfectly content there all day. Now, all kids are different, of course, but you may find that any additional spending on stuff to do is overkill. (Then again, we saw several kids having a great time doing the Magiquest stuff). What does the $43 include?

You can put cash linked to your bracelet or set up a certain amount of money from your debit card to your braclet. The only people who automatically get the special bracelets are adults. You have to request the special braclets for the kids if you want them to have one.

There is no lazy river, but honestly, I have been to GWL Williamsburg and it seemed more like a ditch than a lazy river! Concord does have the racers which are pretty fun!

the pizza hut pizzas are more expensive, but they are made to order and pretty yummy. As are the fries and hotdogs at Spriit Island by the pool. YUMM!

February 13 is a holiday weekend, so expect a sold out lodge on Saturday. It is always crowded when it is a 3 day weekend. If you can work it to come on a weekday, like tues or wed, it will be much less crowded. MLK jr weekend was sold out the entire weekend!

The PUP PASS which is $39 plus tax inlcudes mini golf (or extra tokens if the weather is bad), 20 tokens, Animal Land animal, color your own t-shirt or bag, a small air brushed tattoo and an ice cream with one mix in. The PAw pass has the magiquest and great space instead of the tattoo and ice cream and cost $59 plus tax.

I work at the Concord GWL, so if you have any other questions, let me know!

check with your credit union and employer for discounts. i just found out that GWL offers a 20% off their best available rate to employees at my company. ncsecu offers discounted tickets to carowinds, myrtle waves and a bunch more, but not GWL. also, sometime if you want to get a bit further away, check out dunes village resort in myrtle beach. they have a waterpark on a smaller scale than GWL but it's alot of fun and MUCH cheaper. my sister and i take our kids for a weekend every year. we were there last weekend. we were in a 3 bedroom condo for 2 nights for $316 total.

We are about 1/2 way between the 2 (down the street from UNC Tarheels too torinsmom!) and it looks like the rate per night is much lower in Concord vs Williamsburg. I have been wondering why .... because it's newer and they need to get people there? It's smaller? It's what the market will handle?

We love a lazy river, might make it worth the drive to VA!

Well, it is not like the Lazy River at many water parks for sure. It is smaller and they have water hazards in it---pails that will fill and then drop on you as you pass under. And there is no requirement to stay in your tube, so you have kids swimming and playing all around you. I still like it though.

So, tell me about the racers at Concord. I have never heard of them.

I work at the Concord GWL, so if you have any other questions, let me know!

Just wanted to say y'all do an awesome job at the lodge in Concord! :thumbsup2 Everybody there went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfy when we went! I am looking forward to that great service next weekend!!

We love Dunes Village too! We go there a couple of times a year and have a blast! We were very disappointed last time (water wasn't heated in slides, and we were there in January!). The new slides were broken, the kids section in the new building, too, the water was very cloudy and the smell of chlorine literally made our throats hurt, and the worst...a kid threw up (LOTS) right in front of us in the lazy river ...the mom just took him out for seriously, like 30seconds or less, and then kept on going :sad2:...ugh!...of course, I don't consider that the fault of the Dunes, but still...it was bad. Even so, we will be going back this summer, I am sure, as we love the rooms and the location!

If you go to the Concord one, there is a hibachi/japanese restaurant right next to GWL and we really liked it. When you turn out of the Great Wolf parking lot, it is in the first shopping center on your right. The 4 of us (2kids, 2 adults) ate for about $50. We thought that was a good price and the food was really good. All of the hibachi's in our area always cost us around $80.

There are 4 slides next to each other and you go down on your belly and race 4 at a time. The kids do it over and over and over...

Thanks! We really work hard at trying to make everyone happy! I work in the swim shop and there are only 2 of us who work in there 99% of the time.
