Code watch January 2017

I just had a thought: i need the option to change the last day of the trip after I give it to my boys for Christmas - in case my high schoolers have schedule conflict. (Less than 30 days before trip) Thus: I need to book Room only, right? And SPD would be a package, wouldnt it-- with stricter cancellation rules? So I guess I am hoping for a good Room % discount.

YES! That's what we always do now with two teens (and a little one with an easier schedule!) We have been booking room only for a while now, for a number of reasons. But high schooler schedule changes for school, rehearsal, practice, etc. is a big part of that. And we fly Southwest so there are no fees for changes. Makes me nervous to be locked in to anything.

Although we don't work with a TA, so I don't know if they can somehow offer different cancellation/change policies.

I have only used a TA once for family wedding in Mexico - the bride suggested everyone use the TA to coordinate, so we did. It all went south, the bride fired the TA and we ended up saving a ton of money by booking on our own. I know that's an unusual experience and hear wonderful things about Disney TAs, but I'm still reluctant. That said, I'm really interested in what they might offer, so requested a quote for the very first time ever.

I've used this TA several times and have been very happy with them.

New to Disney Visa here! We already have an initial RO booked, so what is the process for getting the discount applied? Will I have to call, or can I do it online?

Will we be able to see the pricing online for various resorts tomorrow? We're booked at POFQ right now, and would be totally happy with that, but we're toying with a Deluxe if the price is right.

I have booked before with visa discount but can't remember if anyone can help me. If I call tomorrow morning and just ask for the discount, if there is one, will they know or do I need a code? Thanks

The should know - in the past there have been issues where certain CMs on the phone weren't aware of the deal. Sometimes they figure it out - sometimes you may need to HUCA (hang up call again). You should NOT need a code as long as you have a Disney Visa in hand to pay with.

If it's a really good deal for your family to get a package discount you could book the package for the first part then book the one day as a room only in case you need to cancel. Hopefully they'd have the same resort and room type for both discounts.

We are also surprising kids...giving dd 15 about an hr notice so she has time to make sure I've packed "the right clothes" and ds I'll let him know when we pull into airport lol. That's the plan anyways..we'll see how that goes!

Following now. We are going on our first trip the first week of Jan and will be on the Dream right before. We have a really great rate at CR but if there is SPD or Free Dining, I might consider switching.

Good luck to you and to @JJsmama with the surprises! I always love surprise stories. We tried to do that once, but our plan was foiled by one of our boys making the all stars team for baseball and then the tournament conflicted with our trip. :( Actually, since he made the team in the past and was quite a few years younger at the time, he was happy to skip the last couple games and go as planned. But we felt we had to tell him in advance and let him weigh in. We did get in a Christmas morning announcement of a March trip, and a two-day/one-night surprise when we were in Florida already visiting my parents for the week.

I wish someone was able to leak the amount of the discounts. I have a 32% discount at the Beach Club booked, but was thinking about switching over to the AKL if I could get a decent discount there, but I am now I am leaning more so on just sticking with the Beach Club. My husband has been making fun of me so much about all my resort drama!

Mine is not going to be THAT much of a surprise. They will find out on Christmas for a trip two weeks later. They will be super surprised though bc we only ever go during summer and I always get their input every step of the way. So excited to get to try January even if the trip will be a little shorter.

Chip & Co. has a rumor on facebook that Free Dining is coming tomorrow. IF True this would be the HUGEST positive development in Disney Discounts in YEARS. All discounts seem to have moved in a negative direction for the last 5 years. Definitely crossing my fingers as this would be awesome for a lot of people!

I would love this. Hopefully it's for all not just DV holders.
What *typically* happens is the discount will be open for Disney Visa holders for a few days before they open up to the general public. The rumour is that will happen Monday. We just have to wait a bit longer!

Has anyone had any luck finding the Visa discount this morning? I really do not want to have to call this morning!

I have to say this is the first time I've heard of a discount on the Dis and it wasn't available when stated:scared:

As someone mentioned earlier, there used to be a few posters on the Dis who had reliable info on discount rumors. They have since disappeared from the forums and now there's nothing but speculation that seems to change daily. Still keeping my fingers crossed for that rumored free dining though, it would make me change our trip from May to Feb. since it would save me about $500!
