We are planning on going to the beach on our first day and have decided on Cocoa. Is there anything we need to know about this beach? A lot of seaweed, people, waves etc. I was there many years ago but can't remember the beach quality. Are there places to park and eat? Is it just one may beach or are there many areas to it. Silly question but any history of sharks:scared1: Thanks for any info.

You'll probably get a better response by posting on the Disney Cruise Line forum, as Cocoa Beach is just a mile or two from Port Canaveral and many cruisers are familiar with the area.

Well, my son says the surf stinks in Cocoa Beach, but that is where Kelly Slater grew up so it must not be THAT bad.

There is some seaweed, but not overwhelming. There are nice dunes in the area where we usually go. There is a pier and of course Ron Jon's is right there. My only complaint would be that the sea shells are kinda sparse.

As for sharks, well yeah. Sharks live in the ocean and have been spotted at one time or another at just about every beach, anywhere. Just be careful - I would also pay attention to rip tides. But these things usually get announced on the local news when they talk about beach conditions.

So yes - think about these things, but do not let them keep you from going!

We had the same plan a couple of years ago and were very disappointed with Cocoa Beach. It seemed very deserted and we were there in April. We could not find any decent restaurants either. Have you thought of going to the gulf side instead??

he only thing Cocoa has going for it is the proximity to Orlando. there's a Ron Jons at Festival Bay in Orlando. surf shops are better as little stores near the beach, not a giant sporting goods store, which is what Ron Jon's is.

the sand is nothing special, neither is the surf. the pier is OK, and there is decent parking.

i was told that new smyrna beach is really nice - it's near daytona - about 70 miles or so

We have always gone to Clearwater Beach whenever we go to Disney, but decided to go to Cocoa for one day. We loved it and went back four our honeymoon the next year! We have been there in April and in July. The first time we went, we went to Lori Wilson Park (This 32.5-acre, oceanfront park is operated by Brevard County and has seasonal lifeguards. Facilities include restrooms, three pavilions along a 1,000' boardwalk, six dune crossovers, maritime hammock, volleyball court, a playground, barbecue grills, and a 274-space parking lot conveniently located on both the north and south sides of the park.--Taken from cocoabeach.com)

For our honeymoon we stayed at the Doubletree Hotel and the beach was fantastic!

The cocoa beach area is not really a nice area, it might have been once way back in it's heyday but for the most part it's pretty run down. The gulf side of FL is much nicer, with white sandy beaches and emerald waters. Happy trails!

We will be in the WDW area but are not going to WDW what beach is closest and any advice about going?

We have a free night's hotel stay at the DoubleTree thanks to reward points and Gabby is taking surfing lessons. I have to find something to do other than stare at her attempting to surf for 3 hours. I hope there is something entertaining close by. The lessons are through Ron Jon's. Maggie
