Cockroaches at Pop Century Resort

they live outside and go inside for food and water.... obviously a couple inside the room will make me change rooms, where you on a first floor? there is people who avoid them for this reason.

Yeah, palmetto bugs. Don't go to Hawaii if native tropical bugs bother you, no escaping them there either. I've only seen snakes & armadillos & turtles @ WDW - all outside.

My dad lived on Galveston Island for 20 years. The big rats are usually Nutria (but they do look like rats) and the cockroaches are usually Palmetto Bugs.

Funny thing is I saw them all over the place on the Texas coast..yet to see one of either in Florida.

Snakes on the other hand, yep. Alligators, yep (but none at WDW).

Guess some people are just bug and rodent magnets.

i've never seen even a snake, armadillo or turtle @ Disney. When we were staying at POFQ our first time with DD we saw a couple of CMs walking around the outside of rooms and asked what they were doing - their response 'looking for a snake that got away'. Yeah we didn't hang around. I imagine seeing a turtle or armadillo has to be pretty cool though.

All the luck I have had not seeing bugs at Disney or otherwise, our luck seems to always run out on our airplane flights. I can't remember even one flight we took in the past 5 years where there wasn't either a hurricane or snowstorm that threatened our flights, or had major delays due to 'maintenance'.

I had a Palmetto bug ( **** roach in your vernacular) in my bed at the Poly. I shooded it out a went to sleep

We've only seen dead Palmetto bugs at Pop Century. :o But I almost lost it when I saw a large rat run from the trash can to the other side of the pool bar there too. Doesn't stop us from staying there though because I know they're likely everywhere. :goodvibes

I saw on television that roaches can live up to 30 minutes under water.

One of my favourite memories of Florida is standing in line to check my bags in at the Westjet counter. I hear these shrieks and screams. There comes running this giant bug scurrying along towards the sliding doors.

ewww but I can deal with bugs just hope don't find to many. I do understand there everywhere ill just make sure we all have covers for our drinks or snacks.

See, this is why I have to book deluxe rooms just so I don't have to step outside when I open the door. I certainly don't choose the first floor at a value resort because housekeeping props the door open to work on the rooms and something could crawl in. The last time I stayed at Pop, I was solo and whatever the heck it was crawling around my room behind my headboard was loud. I called the front desk to get maintenance to deal with the issue and they didn't come until an hour later. THAT WAS THE LAST TIME I STAYED THERE. I will not stay at a hotel that opens to the outside when I'm by myself because I'm a wuss.

Of course, the huge palmetto bug (the real one, not the cockroach we call a palmetto bug in SC) that came to find me on the 6th floor balcony of the WL was NO JOKE. I have never seen anything that big. This joker looked like a soldier in battle. I surrendered. A really interesting guy (Rob?) came by to get it and told me what it was and gave me a lesson on it. He told me it was a good thing I didn't pick it up because it would have burned my skin. Like that was going to happen.

Come to NYC. I'll show you a cockroach. I broke my arm stepping on one and slipping on its inner goo.

Omg I can't

it was our one and only time at POFQ before we caught the Contemporary TPV bug and havent looked back since so I hear ya on the deluxe/inside resorts. Poly will be our first 'outside' resort since thanks to this thread I'll now be overly obsessed looking for these demon spawns.

The Poly is NOT "outside resort" doors. You enter your building via an outside door into an interior corridor. Your room opens off of the interior corridor.
It is not exterior access to the rooms, like the Values and the Mods

Ah i couldn't remember if this was the case - we only saw the club level building (Hawaii) and I vaguely remembered it was indoors, but thought the inside hallways weren't closed off.

Snakes gotta eat something. It's just the circle of eating, or however that phrase goes.
