Coaster after Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

I am not much of a coaster fan due to going many that take me upside down. That is changing after doing Big Thunder mountain Railroad last year. What are some good coasters to ride for those who aren't upside down fans? Is Rock N' Roller Coaster a upside down one? That seems like a neat experience with the Aerosmith music.

RNRC goes upside down right off the bat and then you roll upside down a couple times. I suggest Everest.

Unfortunately for your interest RnRC is the only coaster in WDW that goes upside down. All the other coasters are pretty tame though EE does go backwards pretty fast for a little while.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

We didn't get to BTMRR this time but I loved it 20+ years ago. My kids are pretty young so we didn't do a lot, but DD7 loved barnstormer. Next we tried Expedition Everest and she HATED it. I didn't think she would ever get on another roller coaster. The backwards in the dark part freaked her out and when that was over I told her the scariest part was over. I thought it was but soon after that there was a big drop that I didn't know about. I thought it was fun, but I didn't really get to enjoy it because I was trying to calm DD. By that point I assumed that if I wanted to go on any more roller coasters I'd be doing it alone. Later she decided she wanted to try Space Mountain and she loved it. That and Test Track were her favorite rides. We didn't get to try RNRC.

If you don't like upside down, I don't think you'll like EE. It doesn't go upside down, but the backwards part is very intense (IMO). I think Space Mountain is a good next coaster after BTMRR. The thrill is mainly from being in the dark, not from steep/long drops or loops.

RNR is the only Disney coaster that goes upside down. However, my husband swore that it didn't so it must not have been too bad LOL. Space Mountain would probably be the next step up from Thunder Mountain.

I hate roller coasters. My sister shamed me into riding RnRC. When I got off my exact comment was "I thought you said this went upside down." My eyes were closed in holy terror the entire time and I never felt it go upside down. It is very quick and smooth. I suggest trying it once of you can. It is over very quickly if you end up hating it.

I would much rather ride RnRC again over Space Mnt or Everest. Both of those were quite jerky in my experience.

I also hate your "typical" roller coasters. That said, I love all the coaster rides at WDW. Guess it's the big drop I don't like, and the Disney coasters don't have one. We timed RNRC the first time we rode it, and it was 63 seconds from start to finish. So I say jump in, close your eyes and hold your breath and it'll be a piece of cake ! (that's how I did it the first time !!LOL) Good luck.

You may agree that BTMRR is a lot of turns and spiraling around the hills, not the up and down stuff that makes you lose your stomach. That is why I like it. All the others are the opposite. SM is jerky but not that fast, just don't sit in the back seat. Everest is a full fledged coaster. I have not done RnR but I hear it is very smooth.

We had someone on our last trip who hadn't really done any coasters. So we did them in this order:

BTMRR
Space
EE
Splash (they were worried about a huge "drop")
RnRC (As others have said, this does go upside down)

We did this over the course of 5 days and they had no trouble with any of them.

My 2 cents: I'd say go ahead and try RnRC, especially if you think it sounds appealing. As others have said, it does go upside down, but it's beyond smooth, you almost don't notice. I personally think Everest is MUCH more intense than RnRC. (Disclaimer: I love them all!)

Expedition Everest is the next step up. Very similar to BTMRR.

Disagree. Space Mountain is the next step up. Coaster is similar to BTMRR but is in the dark so it seems somewhat "wilder".

EE and RnRC are of similar level of "thrill", but as previously stated, RnRC inverts (twice - with the second being a double corkscrew) while EE does not. However, EE's backwards banked track give a sensation very similar to an inversion, to the point that some people are "tricked" to think there is one. Some people consider EE "worse" than RnRC, while others feel the opposite. The only way to judge that one is to ride for yourself. My opinion is that RnRC is the "milder" of the two, even with the inversions, because it is quite short and there is no big drops. The inversions are a lot less noticable indoors too.

I am the exact same way. I avoid roller coasters at any other park other then the Disney parks. I also agree that RnRC is not a bad ride at all and should be tried at least once. If you don't like it after that, then you don't have to do it again. The ride is so smooth and if you like Aerosmith (like me), you'll be singing along to the songs rather then screaming your head off :goodvibes.

I also think that Space Mountain is a good next step roller coaster, the only thrill is that it is in the dark, there are a few small dips in it, but you are mainly going around in huge circles. My family loves this ride and will ride it 3 or 4 times in a row if the crowds allows us to. As for EE, this is another ride that my family loves....in fact, we have been known to go to AK just to ride EE for half a day. This is another coaster that is very smooth and even though you don't go upside down, the backwards part in the dark have made some people disoriented and swear that it actually does. There is also a drop that looks more intense than it really is. The first time I rode it, I was more afraid of the drop and was really embracing my stomach for it, but quickly realized that I didn't have to.

Not sure if you have gone on it yet, but another ride that would be great is Splash Mountain. There are dips and the huge one at the end, is just like EEs in which it looks much worse then it actually is. Again this is another ride that I believe everyone should ride at least once. The music, animatronics, and scenery is awesome and just screams Disney. Good luck :goodvibes

My 2 cents:

Big Thunder Mt. Railroad is my all time favorite ride in WDW. Just have to put that out there. I could ride it 24/7 x 365.

I DO NOT agree that EE is the next step up from BTMR. The beginning of EE is very much like BTMR with the banking curves and such, but then the bottom drops out on you literally. You fall backwards through a cave into a banking curve that is so tight it makes you feel like you are going upside down. It is every bit as intense as the launch of RR. After that there is a small pause, and then you go over a hill about the same height as Splash Mt.

People are forgetting to mention the launch of RR. Going upside down isn't the intense part imo. It is being launch from 0 - 60 in like 3 seconds that is the white knuckler part for me. It literally takes my breath away.

Space Mountain is definately the next step after BTMR. It is a "little" more instense because you can't see anything, so you can't prepare your self for the little bunny hops and such.

My rating would be from least intense to most intense:

Barnstormer
BTMR
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
EE, RR

I think that EE and RR are pretty much tied. They are both have their intense moments. If I had to rank one above the other, I would probably rank RR as the most intense rollercoaster at WDW. I rode EE twice back to back. Don't think I could have done that with RR. I needed to let my nerves take a break ;) EE also has two points where the ride stops for a second. Gives you a second to catch your breath before the next intense part ;)

Space Mountain was my next step. The drops are a little bigger and its in the dark, but it is fast and jerky like BTMRR.

Next I did EE. It's a lot more intense and the drops are bigger but I still liked it.

Honestly, aside from the launch, I think Everest is more intense than RnR. RnR I think is really tame and smooth where Everest throws you around and has more intense turns. In RnR you can't really see where you're going where on Everest you can see and the anticipation makes things worse. Just my 2 cents :)
