LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - CNN anchor Aaron Brown has left the network and will be replaced by co-host Anderson Cooper in a programming shake-up that also gives greater exposure to network veteran Wolf Blitzer.
Brown's departure, which a CNN spokeswoman called a "mutual decision," was revealed to network staff on Wednesday in a memo from Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S., following recent speculation that Brown was on his way out and Cooper was headed for a more prominent role at the network.
Brown, 56, went on vacation last week and will not be back, a spokeswoman said.
Cooper, 38, a former ABC News correspondent and host of that network's reality show "The Mole," joined CNN in December 2001 and has since March 2003 anchored its 7 p.m. newscast, which debuted in September of that year as "Anderson Cooper 360."
Gaining notice for his emotive reports from the U.S. Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Cooper recently assumed the additional role as Brown's co-host on CNN's flagship program "NewsNight," which was extended in September from 10 p.m. to midnight.
Under the new lineup, a new two-hour version of "Anderson Cooper 360" will replace "NewsNight." Cooper's old 7 p.m. slot will be filled by a new edition of "The Situation Room," hosted by Blitzer, 57, who also will keep his current 4-6 p.m. block.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm personally very upset by this move by CNN. The blogs will eventually shake out the real story, but I don't think this was a mutual decision. I hate Wolf Blitzer's style. I don't like the way he delivers news, and I think he's condescending to interviewees. Anderson Cooper is a loose cannon. You can never tell what he's going to do next. Aaron Brown was keeping it all in check.
Am I the only one who feels this way? Are any of the rest of you news junkies like me? I'm I the only one who is going to miss him that bad?

. Here's hoping Aaron Brown finds a place on another network.
