Yes, we know that now. The story I linked said when I linked it that 7 was the age of the boy who died, and also said CNN reported the boy was 12. It has since been updated.

God the 911 call is just terrible to listen to! Horrible! One of my very good friends works for Reedy Creek FD I can't imagine having to see children in that situation. Just heartbreaking.

Perhaps she's in the gift shop area and someone just ran to her and told her to call.

She may have radio'd the area to get more information once she was already on 911.

Once she dialed 911--911 stays on the line until they get rescue crews.

Very sad.

We were at Monticello last week and while not Disney--I was the one running for help..someone used a cell to call 911...and I got the employees--and they had to direct by radio the rescue crews--so not Disney...but yes it can get really screwy.

Okay, checked it out on the web site and according to it they have the AED's, apparently the largest deployment of them. I wonder it they can be used on children though? Anyone know?

Yes, AEDs can be used on children. Either the AED comes with child sized pads or instructions and scissors to cut the adult pads.

Listening to the 911 call is so sad especially when the picture closest to me here at my computer is an RnR picture we purchased in 2001....my youngest DS is 12. How absolutely heartwrenching for the parents. I can't imagine their pain.

I have wondered if it is possible to die of fright on some of these rides. I know I experience a bit of a panic attack on some of them. Add the heat and the child not knowing how to say no to something they don't want to do and anything can happen.

I remember seeing a story on the news a while ago about how thrill rides can raise your heart rate because of the anticipation,etc. I know that I sort of get freaked out before riding rides like ToT and RnRC, even though I've been on them before.

This is sad, but the one article I read that said how the parents claimed him to be "healthy"...maybe he wasn't as healthy as they thought?

I know when my DH worked at Dollywood, dehydration was a big problem. I can't imagine what it is like at WDW in the hot summer and when people don't drink enough.
Not that dehydration was the boy's problem but it can certainly cause trouble and complicate things.
As the mom of a 12yo, my heart goes out to them. How sad. My prayers are with them.

On our local news tonight they said the father was doing CPR at the time that phone call was being made. My guess is the mom was right there with him. The family is from Fort Campbell Kentucky, which is a very large military community. Our hearts and prayers go out to them, the families in this community have endured enough loss as it is.

I believe the American Heart Assoc. and Red Cross puts 12 year olds in the adult resusitation category but I could be wrong. I would think that any attempt at rescue would be better than nothing.

Honestly it's been so long since I took CPR that I can't remember. I just wasn't sure if the AED's were set so they could be used on kids, if they use the same amount of a jolt as they do with adults.
