CNN Boy dies on Rockn Roller Coaster

I have wondered if it is possible to die of fright on some of these rides. I know I experience a bit of a panic attack on some of them. Add the heat and the child not knowing how to say no to something they don't want to do and anything can happen. :guilty:

I just heard on the news.
My girls ran over here to tell me also, how sad :( poor family.
We love RR.

Both of my daughters were 4' tall at age 7. DS was one inch short at age 7, but is tall enough for RnR this year (at 8)and is very excited. I tried to send him out of the room when the news story came on, but he recognized the ride right away and still wants to ride. We talked about how sometimes people have things wrong with them that they don't know about and the rides make it worse.
I don't believe that kids don't have the ability to say "no" to rides. I have seen lots of scared kids not wanting to go on rides. All my nieces are like that. Now if they are that scared and the parents still make them go, that's another story. My own kids are not afraid of anything and I only have seen tantrums when the line is too long for us to wait or when they were still too little to ride.

They are from here. I can't imagine what they are going through. The Campbell family is all praying for them.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office said rescuers were at the ride within three minutes.

Rescuers from Reedy Creek?

How the heck did they get to the ride that fast? Three minutes is incredible!

According to information released at a news conference this afternoon, the boy's parents said Michael Russell was in good health and had not complained about being sick before the ride.

Why does this always seem to be the case?

Deepest sympathy and prayers for the family. How tragic. :guilty:

Oh, no. Did it say if this was his first time on the ride? One year older than mine and we were just there a month ago. He rode it at least 3 times that trip, and who knows how many times on previous trips. Of course, he also rode Mission Space..................

Reedy creek is the management district--they have the fire rescue and paramedics.

I believe with back stage access--they are probably very well versed in arriving quickly on the scene.

Probably a change from last year that they take cases like this seriously.

I've seen the little golf cart ambulances in EPCOT--so I'm sure they have them elsewhere.

The first article noted that there was no defibrillator available. One would think with the availability of very affordable, functional defibrillators, that they would be available at attractions that are notably fast.

I wonder about that, I could swear I saw on something this past trip that indicated that they have AED's. :confused3 I noticed it because we have one here in our cafeteria. But the news does seem to get things wrong a lot in the beginning when a news story first breaks.

Have to check that out.

I saw a woman collapse from the heat in AK, and one of those golf cart ambulances was there VERY quickly, but even before it got there, a person with a case who was obviously a paramedic had already arrived.

Okay, checked it out on the web site and according to it they have the AED's, apparently the largest deployment of them. I wonder it they can be used on children though? Anyone know?

Even so, three minutes is pretty darned good considering the crowds this time of year.

I just listened to the 911 call made from WDW. The 911 operator asked if they had an AED and the answer was no. :confused3 Wonder why not if they have a large deployment of them?

True--but they were at the exit and I have been backstage at MGM--they have doors and access points everywhere.

There are roads that run behind RnR. Currently there are no less than 9 sheriffs cars all over the back of the attraction as a news copter is filming overhead.

In this photo I took from our room at the Swan, I can now see how they had "backstage access."

Oh my god how awful. My heart goes out to that poor family. My prayers are with them
