CNN Boy dies on Rockn Roller Coaster

I just saw this. This is so horrible and my prayers go out to his family.

www.wfla.com from Tampa has the same story as the Chicago station.

I guess I am just suspiciuos and I hope that in tragedy and for news purposes they aren't hoping the child is younger. (not that I think they are--just wouldn't be the first nor the last time a prelim news release was incorrect if it is--and not surprised that someone saw that and ran with it).

If the hospital or the family said he was 7--I'd be more inclined to believe it. But for the Sheriff's department--typically I didn't think they were the first to respond at the parks when medical assistance is needy.

So I am just skeptical.

Oh, I'm sure he probably did have some kind of condition. I'm not at all saying it's Disney fault, hope you didn't get that impression.

Oh, no, I didn't think that!

Very sad. Prayers for the family.

Age 7 age, 12, whatever the age, it's a tragedy. When these things happen misinformation often comes out.

Absolutely--still a child and still a tragedy. Didn't mean to imply otherwise.

At the end of the CNN report they say that a month ago a boy died on Mission Space.

"One month ago, another child died on the Disney ride "Mission Space" at the Epcot Center."

I assume they mean a year ago.

These sudden deaths always seem to happen in the hottest months. I really wonder if heat exhaustion can exacerbate the effects of thrill rides.

How very sad. :(

Very possible, and a good theory. Also, summer months have the highest attendance rates, more people = higher chance of things going wrong.

Oh, I know LisalovesPooh :), I was just saying there's not a huge difference in age to make it worse one way or another.

Talk about misinformation, that first article also says RnRC has 5 inversions when it's 3.

The first article noted that there was no defibrillator available. One would think with the availability of very affordable, functional defibrillators, that they would be available at attractions that are notably fast.

Actually those agencies are reporting an age discrepancy. (a rather large one).
I wonder if the boy had a sibling and maybe ages got confused.

Do 7yo boys end up 4 feet tall?

Also could be AP reports are wrong.

All the local stations in Orlando who can communicate directly with Orange County still report that Orange County says he was 12.

Very confusing.

There is a 7yo brother---so somewhere the kids ages and/or names are getting switched--but they say it is the 12yo who died.

From WESH:

A 12-year-old boy died after riding a roller coaster at Disney-MGM Studios on Thursday.

Disney officials said the boy was transported by ambulance to Celebration Hospital at about 11:30 after riding the Rock 'N' Roller Coaster, WESH 2 News reported.

Michael Russell died at the hospital, officials said.

Russell and his family were visiting from Fort Campbell, Ky., which is about 45 miles northwest of Nashville, Tenn.

Byron and Charlotte Russell and their two sons, ages 7 and 12, boarded the ride shortly after 11 a.m. After the ride, Byron Russell noticed his son Michael looked "limp," officials said. He immediately started CPR and ride operators called the Reedy Creek rescue squad

A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office said rescuers were at the ride within three minutes.

The family said they did not know of any prior health problems. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday
