CMs on Castaway Cay

Just wondering if anyone knows what will happen to the CMs on Castaway Cay during the hurricane. Will Disney get them off the island? Doesn't seem like a great place to be during a hurricane!

It's already reported that the Dream returned today and picked up the CMs on the island. And is headed to Port Canaveral.

But, typically, for a "normal" hurricane situation (one where the island isn't in the line of fire), there is a shelter there.

I believe a skeleton crew rode out Matthew last year on the island. Somewhere around here is a thread with some pictures. As mentioned the Dream did evacuate at least some CMs today; i haven't heard if any remained behind. If so, I hope they stay safe!

A friend onboard said they picked up 130 from CC, so doesn't sound like they even left skeleton crew this time. Hope the cats alright lol.

Don't know where they're gonna stay until the drop off the guests back in PC.

I suppose with no guests onboard they have potentially two ship loads of crew to go and help with clean up once everything has passed over.

Perhaps the sailing wasn't full?

Casey is not a young cat anymore, so if everyone was evacuated, I hope Casey was too!

Is this the thread?

Is this the thread?

That's the one I had in mind, though in scanning through it I don't see the pics that I recall. Possibly they were removed, might have been links (a couple of links in that thread don't work anymore), or it was a different thread.

This thread includes a link to a Google Maps arial view that shows the non-public areas. But I definitely recall some snapshot type pics that had been posted. DCL may have made the employee remove them -- I think they'd originally been posted to FB or Twitter or something, then someone linked them to a thread here on the DIS.

I'd forgotten about the cat! Oh my goodness, this just skyrocketed my anxiety. I need to know what happens to the cat!!!

They prepped for Harvey quite a bit before they left for it, but from the sounds of it the whole crew got onboard and didn't do much prep yesterday. With 2 straight storms having the potential to hit it may be a while before CC is back operational.

First family Disney Cruise on 10/2 and I can honestly say I have no idea what its going to hold. I'm curious to see where we may end up but pretty bummed out we'll miss CC, as I suspect we will with two hurricanes bearing down on the area. I just hope the weather clears up so we can sail!!! Heartbreaking images from all over. Hoping the resilient people on the islands who can rebuild, will do so quickly!

Live in Florida, will be bummed out if we lose our house, if we do I hope we can rebuild quickly

There is a FB page with Casey updates but they don't know anything yet. I'll let you know if they get official word (from the lady on the island who looks after Casey) whether or not he/she was evacuated with the crew.

Funny thing. I've always thought Casey was a male cat but there were posts recently that said Casey is actually female. Regardless, I hope Casey and the orange/white cat were taken with the crew.

I'm not sure if I've misread your tone but I surely didn't mean to diminish the effects this hurricane will have on the good folks of Florida. I'm sorry that you seem to think my dismay at possibly missing out on a part of our trip we have been very much looking forward to somehow trivializes the possible damage you may see. I only mentioned the islands as they have already been devestated by winds and rain. I truly hope that you and your home stay safe.

We are also on the 10/2 (Platinum). Years ago we were on the Magic an extra day, returning to PC 24 late. Stressful for planning the return home, but Disney was amazing at taking care of us. Granted we didn't dock with an approaching hurricane.

It just sunk in today we may miss CC. (My BFF & I are cursed this year.) Yet after reading some of my past trip reports I realized some of the greatest memories happened when plans got changed. While I need a relaxing vacation, being able to think about unimaginable possibilities is also exciting!

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that CC won't be a part of upcoming itineraries. A direct hit might knock CC offline for a while. But if any place in the Caribbean was built well enough to withstand a Hurricane, its CC. Compared to the other islands, especially. I wouldn't be too concerned or speculate too much. Even the best meteorologists can't pinpoint where this is heading. Stay optimistic.

Agreed. With the Western path the storm has now taken, it doesn't appear that CC will take a direct hit. Plus, you can be sure that Disney will have people working around the clock the minute it has passed to begin cleanup and repair of what damage does occur.

This storm is enormous. Wherever the center/eye hits, the effects will be felt 75+ miles in every direction around it. The storm is currently larger than the state of Texas! I live on Long Island, NY. After Sandy I had some people tell me that New Jersey had it worse because the center came ashore in New Jersey. We got the northeasy quadrant where the winds are usually stronger. I was working at the hospital (where I worked for 43 years before retiring). I went to work on Sunday and didn't leave until Friday. No electricity at home. Co-workers whose homes were destroyed, flooded etc. Patients who were evacuated from a local barrier island where there was no water, no sewage etc. Trust me just because you aren't directly in the eye, if you are in Florida especially along any coast you will have damage!!!!!! I can show you people who 5 years after Sandy are still trying to rebuild! I was on the Magic in 2004 when 5 hurricanes hit Florida and 2 hit CC. We were the first ship back to CC after it was closed due to the storms. Lots of damage that had been repaired but those storms were not nearly as strong nor as large as this one.

As I remember, the pictures were on a FB page that someone linked to in that thread. It's very possible DCL had the CM remove the pictures from FB.
