CM's and the DISboards

A couple of years ago I was on a Disney cruise with Tom Wolber (Sr. Vice President of Operations). When asked if there were any plans for a new ship, his response was something like "not at this time but you will hear it first on the Disboards; that's where I get my information".

There used to be a DIS store but they don't have it any more.

I have been a DIS member far longer than a CM, as i just became a CM as of the end of May at the World of Disney NYC. The job hasn't made me want to come here any less... actually, it's made me want to log on even more, except now i have less time because of my schedule!

But I <3 the DIS, it has kept my Disney spirit alive.

I have always been curious if the Disney higher-ups like vice presidents and top people occasionally read these boards. Most companies spend a fortune on research and surveys to find out about their customers or clients. All these top mucky much executives have to do is read all about it right here!

But you also have to realize that, as much as The Dis may want to BELIEVE it's the end-all be-all of Disney fandom , it's actually a very small sample of the people who visit WDW every year. If the powers that be decided things based on the views here or used only the views here as their benchmark, it would be totally unrepresentative of the guest base as a whole.

As for whether or nt the Disney higher-ups read the boards, my guess would be "no." I do think, however, that they receive info from people on their support staff or teams who are assigned to monitor the boards, so that trends or hot-button topics can be brought to their attention.

I've seen many a CM here on the Disboards - but I know there are probably many more that don't say they are CM's.

Since there are more than one CMs who frequently post here, like Cranbiz - a WDW bus driver, as one example - your statement in red above is false.

Since I was referring to the CMs I know, how could my statement possibly be false? I thought my statement was fairly simple. *shrug*

I posted a deal on this board once and a CM pm'd me to get some additional information and help. Then the CM told me if I ever was planning to stay on property to let them know and they might be able to get me a CM discount. Unfortunately it didn't work out for the dates I was coming out, but it was a great and very appreciative gesture.
