Looking for a day off from work in the morning, don't want to leave my warm house...........
Our school division  will cancel our school if the temperature reaches -38 celcius(which is -37 fahrenheit) or if the wind chill is -47 celcius(which is -53 fahrenheit).
Wind chill is what the temperature feels like with the wind, right now the temperature is only -32 C(-26 F) so the wind chill is only -42 C (which is like -43 F).
Sure you can freeze in mere seconds but they won't cancel school until wind chill reaches -47C!! :cold: :cold:
I only live across the street from the school but as we walked over the wind felt like it was cutting into your skin, a sensation you just can't understand unless you live in the colder areas!
It wasn't cold enough to cancel school today but we had to have indoor recess so the kids wouldn't freeze--its great having 650 kids all inside for recess at once!
The wind chill is only supposed to be -44 C (-47 F) in the morning though so I really hope the temperature drops a little bit more or the wind picks up a bit!! :thumbsup2
Anyone else having a "warm" spell like we are right now? :sunny:

I'm bumping this because I'm curious on the location of the OP. Did Mrs. Claus just post? :rotfl:

I'm not the OP but I'm in northern Minnesota and we're expecting minus 50-60 degrees later today and through the weekend.

Crazy isn't it? :crazy2:

I don't think there's school today anyway so the only issue with the temps will be to try to keep these older houses warm. Wish us luck. LOL

I live in Maine and it's 40* F here. I'm loving it.

I bet the OP lives in Canada.... the celcius temps and all!

Tonight the news is saying 20 to 30 below zero. I seriously need spring! :rotfl2: Last night we had no power for about 4 hours I am glad it was last night not this night. Maybe I should not have said anything

I'm in S. Jersey, and it is 50 here this morning! However around 10:00am high winds and the temps are to drop real low! Cold and wind headed our way. Stay warm everyone. ;)

It definately needs to get cooler around here. I should not have to wear shorts in February to be comfortable.

WoW!!!!! Too cold for me! I too would love to know where the OP lives. It is 42 here this morning and was 56 here last night. I believe we are supposed to go down to 30 today though.

WOW, just plain ol' wow. That's freaking cold! I sure don't know what I'd do in weather that cold!

It was 70 here yesterday when I left school, and I think (hope!) it'll be that high again today. I have major spring fever already!

Our schools don't close for anything. that is why I declared it a way too cold day myself. not even 20 yet. and like Hersey said it is suppose to get 20 30 below this evening.

DD isn't completely well yet so I am not chancing it.

I only remember our schools closing once when it was an actual -30 I don't remember what the wind chill was. Today it is a balmy 5 tomorrow it is to be
-15 or -20. But to be honest up to now it hasn't been a bad winter. Some years we can have months of very low temps.

:lmao: :lmao:
YEAH...school was cancelled!! :cool1:
So needless to say it is a "tad" chilly here! The wind chill hit -47 C so it was cancelled.
Last year we had one day where ithe wind chill hit -50C (-58 F) and it said on the news we were even colder than the Antarctic but they didn't cancel school--I'm telling you there were some very upset staff and parents but only a few stayed at home everyone else came to school!
I just can't believe it has to get that cold for our school division to cancel school especially because so many students have to travel in from the country on buses
Oh BTW, anyone who guessed I live in Canada is correct! I live in the warm, southern :sunny: :cool2: :sunny: part of Canada!

How do you get so lucky to live in Canada and get temperatures like that??!! It probably gets so cold here because we live out on the bald prairies! :rotfl2:

I now feel bad about complaining for the 23 degree weather I'm having! I now know it could be colder, which would make me cry.
I desperately need spring. It was 68 yesterday. It's true what they say about Kentucky weather: If you stick around for a week, you'll get just about every season!
