I'm probably going to get flamed for this but here goes.....you didn't describe the woman CM who refused to trade but my Wife and I have learned (my wife actually first noticed this) to avoid any female CMs who have super short haircuts. I'm not sure if that tends to mean they are former police or military but they tend to be EXTEMELY strict and pretty unfriendly. If you don't believe me then send one family member through the bag check that has a CM not matching this description and then you go through the line with the short-haired woman and see who gets everything short of a body cavity search.

I thought is was hysterical. :rotfl2: I have short hair.

well i'm happy to hear, that this does not go on a lot..

Thank you for posting the rules on CM pin trading..
I do not think we will have any problem this trip and if we do we will move on to the next cm..
along with a vent thread here on the DIS.. :rotfl2:

Funny, I have never had that experience. Maybe it's because my partner and I both have short haircuts. :confused3

:headache: Really? :headache:

I ended up giving up a different pin..

we still own the damaged pin...
I have not traded it b/c i thought it was deemed untradable :confused3
here is a pic of it.. I couldn't get the chip to show up in the pic (that's how small it is)
It's on the right edge of the blue skirt, about 1/2 way down.

Good Lord, that is just a common factory defect! That should have never happened to you.

There is no such thing as "haircut profiling".
I think it is a pretty funny observation and if it's something that stood out in the poster's wife's mind, then so be it. No one is discriminating against short haircuts.

hmmm.....it sure sounded like someone has a thing against lesbians/butch women to me :rolleyes1

That's crazy! Anytime I've traded, the CM usually holds out their lanyard and goes about their business- they usually don't even look at what I'm trading, like they couldn't care less.

As I understand it, the whole purpose of pintrading with a CM from Disney's perspective is to have more interaction between the CM and the guest. SO...all of these stories about CMs being personally involved with the pins, though I am not doubting that they are authentic, shouldn't even be happening. The one that was worth lots of money is the one that gets me the most. The pin belonged to WDW for the purpose of trading it with a guest.

Secondarily, it is a business. If you aren't going to be able to trade with a cool pin a CM has, why would you buy the pins? I'm not for reporting every little thing (people can have a bad day) but this sounds like some CMs are stealing. However, OP, I think the one you encountered was just not understanding the deal. Bummer.Trade it next time.

OP- your story made me sad! I've never heard of that happening, and if it happened to me it would be quite the downer!

That is unusual reaction.
We had the opposite reaction--It was 2 years ago and my DS was 12 at the time--he wanted to trade with a CM in DTD--she said OK but you cannot look at the pins but close your eyes and touch one (the pins were on a covered up holder)--well he picked a princess pin--which as you know most boys don't won't that and it showed on his face--well the CM saw this and felt sorry for him and let him pick again and this time look at the pins. So he got something he wanted. That was nice of her.

ok so here what happen..

My younger sister and i were staning is line to look at 3 CM's trading books..
I found this cinderella pin that i thought my daughter would like, so i traded for it..
We moved on the the next book and there was the perfect pin with all the princesses on it... I knew my daughter would rather have this pin and i was going to trade the perivous cindrella pin for it..
I handed the cindrella pin to the CM she looked at for a little bit, and asked me if i had a Non-damaged pin
I went :confused3.. she showed me a VERY small chip in the paint...
We are talking smaller then period at the end of my sentence . <<<<< smaller then that

I was a little peeved, as i pulled a differnt pin off my lanyard..
I still don't understand why this happened????
I would understand if it was their own personal book, but im sure it was not b/c another lady asked if the pins where their's and the CM said no, they are not allowed to trade personal pins on the job..

I've been going through our pins cleaning out which ones are tradable and which are not.. Most look tradable to to me.. ( we take pretty good care of our pins) but i'd hate this to happen to my daughter who is now old enough to trade by herself..

Should i worry about this or was it just a one time thing?:confused3

At Disneyland, I had a CM reject a pin too. It was also with a CM with the binders but mine was rejected for another reason. The pin didn't have the "Official Pin Trading" logo on it but older pins don't have that logo :confused3. It did have the "Copyright Disney" so it was tradable per their rules. I was annoyed but gave another pin. I later traded the rejected pin to another CM. The rules do state that the pin you trade has to be undamaged but yours didn't look damage. I received pins way more damaged then that from CMs so I bet its just a one time thing.

Whew, thanks :thumbsup2

I was almost afraid to check back on this thread tonight.....it was about as hot as it has been all summer today but I kept suspecting that some of the heat was my butt getting flamed on this board

To answer some question raised....my Wife has long hair.....as I SAID, I'm sure there are some nice short-haired fm CMs......no, my knuckles don't drag the ground,,,,yet

It was just an observation folks.....can't we all just get along :hippie:

Sarcasm:

There are hidden reasons why a woman might have short hair. I had chemo 5 years ago (I really did) and lost my hair. It was short for a long while. By looking at me, one would not know that I survived caner. (Yay!) Don't assume that all short-haired women are mean; some have unseen medical conditions.

:thumbsup2:banana: To your cancer survival!!!

As to the pins my children do the trading never had one refused but we have gotten pins that did not even have the Disney on the back. We don't collect for profit or to get rare pins we just collect hat we like. Most of them are probably nothing special. Some of the comments here about CM refusing to trade or begging guests not to take certain pins is really odd.

Thank you; I dance every day to my survival.

And, I ditto you pin comment.

This may have already been covered, but are you sure the person was a WDW CM? I have seen some non-disney CMs outside of Pin Traders in Downtown Disney with books who were definitely not CMs.

In any event, I'm sorry you had a cruddy experience.

I can't believe you posted that. Perhaps you should avoid men wearing longer hair as well. It could tend to mean they are former biker thugs or perhaps still feeling the effects of their "buzz" from Woodstock. :rotfl:

like my son traded a cubs baseball mickey pin for a mighty duck pin the funny thing was the CM wasnt a cubs fan she was a white sox but she still traded him cuz she said it was the only pin ur going to find of this one cuz since disney doesnt have mighty ducks rides anymore the only thing i can think of is the mighty duck pinball at disney quest ;)

You're right, you are going to get flamed.
