CM Rejected my PIN... does this happen a lot.??????

I don't trade pins, so have no idea.

I've seen CMs with the pins around the neck (Lanyard?) and know they trade, but I've never seen a CM with a book. I have seen normal people at DTD with books, but I assumed that they were just everyday folk. Anyone have any more details on CMs with pin books?

When we were down in May, they had a CM in the jewelry room at WoD with a book of pins for trading.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this but here goes.....you didn't describe the woman CM who refused to trade but my Wife and I have learned (my wife actually first noticed this) to avoid any female CMs who have super short haircuts. I'm not sure if that tends to mean they are former police or military but they tend to be EXTEMELY strict and pretty unfriendly. If you don't believe me then send one family member through the bag check that has a CM not matching this description and then you go through the line with the short-haired woman and see who gets everything short of a body cavity search.
This made me laugh! No flames, just belly laughs. I needed that. I am so sending DH into a "short haired female" line!

I don't think this should have happened and its not normal.

I will say, that one time a CM at Wilderness Lodge accused my DS of taking a pin from her book. He had been looking at them and then, traded one with her when she asked him to put back the one he'd "taken." He was real little at the time and it hurt his feelings. We walked away, and later she found us and apologized - she counted them and realized they were all there. It was a little heartbreaking.

wow. Honest mistake but still not handled appropriately. I would have been quite angry if a CM accused my kid of stealing.

I'm pretty sure the "book" they are talking about is this:

Those are my 2 girls trading with a CM at AKL. Sorry you can't see it very well but it's a black padded thing that they wear. Some of them have it on their belt, some of them have it around their body like he does here. I thought it was a better view of it when I uploaded it. We saw tons of CMs wearing these.

To the OP, I'm so sorry you had such a negative experience and that CM was in the wrong. We had nothing but positive experiences with pin trading and we look forward to doing it again on our next trip.

Several years ago we stayed at Carribean Beach... didn't like the resort.. but we were in the gift shop and 2 cms were working the register I see a pin I like.. standing there to trade and the other cm says I want that pin save it for me... I WAS TICKED.. I said I just said I wanted to trade for it.. the CM said oh sorry... I was so mad... the cm who had the pin to begin with told me to go find a pin off the rack.. she knew I was going to go tell someone in high authority! I was so mad!

My husband and I trade all the time...that has never happened. Your pin looks fine, so I have no idea why the CM did not let you trade. Sounds odd.

at wl the pin trading cart does have a binder full to trade, so i would presume it's like this at most of the carts.

as a side note, dd traded for one on our last nite last october...when i got it home and was going to put a locking back on it i noticed its probably a scrapper. the enamal has rust on it from the hidden mickey. this one she got from from a cm at the gift shop at the living seas. since its a princess she refuses to trade it back!!!!

i was also told in one store in epcot they also have a board they bring out once a day and let people study it for a bit(30 seconds, 2 minutes) and then they can trade 2 off it. not sure if this is still in practice tho.

hahaha Lynn I was just thinking about you for this post!!

I was going to say the same thing, seems rather strange!!

Some locations (usually at least one store at every resort, for example) have an actual binder of pins.

It has been my experience that they often have "better" pins than the ones on the pads or lanyards.

It may be a coincidence, it could be that they hold more pins therefore the chances of having better pins is greater, or it could be that it's not as well known about the books so they're not as often traded out of.

As to the OP, I wonder if the CM was actually flat out refusing, or if they were just requesting a different pin (would have accepted if the op hadn't offered a different pin)? Not saying that it's right, I'm just confused. I've never had a CM tell me no when it was a legit Disney pin. :confused3

I'm sure it's not true in every case and didn't intend for it to be taken that way and like I said...my WIFE was the one to point this out to me.

So you throw short-haired women and your wife under the bus.

I will admit I laughed when I read this..It isnt very nice but I just dont feel Andy meant it as bad as it sounded..

Now I have had a CM refuse to trade a certain pin around his lanyard before said it was a very rare and expensive pin, at which I understood BUT in the OP position I would have told the offensive CM that I just recvd the "damaged pin" from another CM and Im not even sure I would have traded another pin, I proabably would have walked off..

OP sorry you were treated like that, it doesnt seem right..

I was somewhat angry, but the CM looked scared enough, so I decided to let it go. Also, sometimes the confrontation is just not worth it on vacation. We've let lots of things go, because its usually more fun to put something out of our minds and continue on with our good time!

We have loads of pins, but don't trade often. However, last trip DD made a trade with a CM who let her choose anything she wanted from his lanyard for anything at all that our DD wanted to give him. She thought this was strange and wanted him to choose what he liked. :cutie:

So, the next day, she wanted to try trading again but somehow I ended up wearing the lanyard. My experience was different. The CM's I dealt with wanted to choose, and 1 female CM plain outright asked for 1 of ours even though my DD didn't want to trade with her. She kept saying how much she loved the pin and how it would complete her collection (it wasn't part of a set though). DD really didn't like this CM's pins and refused to trade and I walked away feeling a bit guilty for not just giving the darn thing away! :sad2:

After that, DD asked me to leave her lanyard in our room.

Please tell me it was a joke, otherwise it is prejudice.:sad2:

Oh please! :faint:
There is no such thing as "haircut profiling".
I think it is a pretty funny observation and if it's something that stood out in the poster's wife's mind, then so be it. No one is discriminating against short haircuts.

It seems a little odd to me that the CMs would have such an attachment to their pins. I thought they were just given to the CMs by Disney specifically to trade. :confused3 If they have such a personal attachment to them, why do they bring them to work?

Sorry for going off topic, OP - I am sorry this happened to you, it can kind of spoil the fun of pin trading when you get a surly cast member :(

It was just posted here the other day that CMs are not permitted to trade their personal pins while they are working. I think a CM posted that. So I don't understand a bunch of these odd interactions at all.

You find it funny, it is your opinion and it is OK. I find it offencive and it is my opinion.

I've never had that happen to me but I did have a CM in Epcot beg , beg, beg me not to take the peter pan off of her landyard. My dd just about had the whole set of peter pan and I really wanted to trade for it but she got over the top stupid with begging, she actually was having a melt down, I don't know why she just didn't place it in her pocket to not be traded at all. Goodness what a scene it was, finally we just traded for something stupid and left and was glad to be away from her. :rolleyes1

Wow that CM had no right to do that! They aren't the CMs personal pins so I don't understand why she acted that way. I would've insisted on trading for the Peter Pan anyway as he is pretty hard to find.

S... the other cm says I want that pin save it for me... I WAS TICKED.. I said I just said I wanted to trade for it.. the CM said oh sorry... Wowie, that's not good. The other CM sounded like he was going to keep it for his own personal collection, which means he got a pin, that was meant for trading, for free. Which would be stealing.

There was a post on the CB about a woman who had been fired from Disney for taking something like a dinner roll. That's how strict Disney is about stealing. A pin is worth more than a dinner roll.

no wonder the other CM gave you a pin...the CMs didn't want to be fired when you told management about it!
