CM at HM wouldn't let us do a baby swap.

We were at MK on Friday and there was a line at the HM and they wouldn't let us do the baby swap. The line was 20 minutes, which isn't a crazy line, but that is 40 minutes total by the time you "swap" and that adds up, but they told my husband no. Has this every happened to any of you? The only time it has happened before is when there is no line and there is no point in doing it (which is understandable). But the CM at Dinosaur gave us one with a 10 minute wait, so we can't figure out why we couldn't do it at HM.

Thanks! Sandra

Hmmmm. I don't know. I was there on Friday as well, but was riding HM with the Keys tour. We used a CM entrance, so I didn't have any wait, but noticed there wasn't much line as we approached. That's kinda weird. HOpefully someone knows. :confused3

Disney typically doesn't do swaps at attractions without height restrictions.

Thanks MQuara!! I was wondering why. My son road it the day before and didn't like it so that is why we were swapping on Friday. Now at least I know. I hate not knowing why things happen! ;)

Yes, this also happened to us in April. My DS7 at the time didn't want to ride but we did. We got all the way through the line to the point of getting in the Doombuggy, which was also the first time we spotted a CM. We told the CM loading us that we wanted to child swap but he just said that we couldn't and ushered my DH and DS into a Doombuggy. DD and I got in one in front of them thinking he would be waiting for me when we got out. They were 2 buggies behind us. It all happened so quickly that neither of us refused. My DS just covered his eyes and buried his head. By the end of the ride he was peeking between fingers and had stopped sobbing enough to keep asking DH questions. :teeth: No lasting damage done, he survived. But he says he WILL NOT go on it with me in Nov. We'll see. :rolleyes1
I believed though that all rides were child swappable - especially the scarier ones. I didn't know it was only based on height restrictions. Surprise! :earseek:

That is very surprising...I absolutely would have thought you could do a baby swap at HM! Geez, sometimes I get spooked in there!

Good to know!

It's good they're guarding Baby Swap against potential abuse like that. There are so many similar services that Disney once offered but had to stop offering because folks would exploit them beyond their original intent.

Wow, you'd think that they'd at least tell you the reason for there not being a child swap option!

Yes, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, IASW, Snow White, Pooh, Buzz are some that do not have parent swap.

What we do with HM is we do Fastpass if the line is too long and one of our girls doesn't want to ride.

Just an fyi-I don't think HM has fastpass anymore.

I don't see how doing a baby swap on HM would be considered abuse of the system. I thought it was for anything that a child could not/didn't want to ride. If that is their policy, that is fine, but I'm sure I or others were not trying to do anything to abuse a service. I had no idea it was a height thing. Plus, later on if my child is 40 inches but afraid to ride test track, it becomes a scared issue and not a height issue, so in that way I don't see the difference. But it is nice to know what is and is not allowed.

We swapped on Test track with a 6yo who was 50 inches tall, he met the height but did not want to ride. I did not see this abuse, that's how it is advertised. A child did not want to ride and we did, it's that simple. It was rude to say this is an abuse!!!

If your child is too young to be left alone, and both parents want to do a ride, I don't think it's abuse at all to do a child swap, whether it's because of a height requirement, child scared to go, whatever.

Just a guess, but there could be some practical problems with baby swap at HM. It's one of those rides where the exit is some distance from the start. So you have to get parent #1 back to the start do meet up with parent #2. Now rides that normally have baby swap (SM for example) have "secret stairways" set up to make it work. But if HM doesn't normally have babyswap, there might be no good way.

I think the difference is choice. On attractions with height restrictions, Disney's rules prevent certain Guests from experiencing the ride. On all other attractions, the Guest opting not to ride for whatever reason is a Guest choice, not a Disney rule. Frankly, it makes sense that Disney doesn't make special provisions for such parties.

That is probably their way of thinking. I guess I just think of HM as an adult ride (more so than the things in Fantasyland anyway) and that is why I was curious why we couldn't do it.

Actually on a lot of baby swap rides (Dinosaur, TOT and RNRC for example) they give the parent a fastpass type ticket so one parent waits outside the attraction with the child and then when the other is done, they enter the fastpass line with up to three people. So no special stairways needed.

Some Guests abuse it by not being honest about even having a child. I worked at buzz lightyear and so many Guests would come up saying that their child was in a stroller 'somewhere' and couldn't ride and could they please have a child swap pass. It's not like I could have said bring your child all the way over here and then I will give you one cause then I am calling them a liar. But it would many times end up that there was no child in a stroller at all and the Guest would go around on the ride again with the pass. Sad isn't it?
