CM admits to stealing CC#'s from OKW and SSR

Just awful, but not surprising. More and more people are using fraud to line their pockets, dispicable.
I am glad she was caught and wish her an awful time in federal Prison, where she belongs and is headed.

So what should be the lesson here, fellow budgeters?

CHECK, RECHECK, TRIPLE CHECK your credit card statements. I have one mastercard dedicated to travel and if you travel with your laptop, you can sign up and check your usage almost instantaneously.

I read an article that said when some one steals your credit card information they are more likely to use it for online purchases, since no chance of asking for id on line. Now when I travel I alert my cc company that I will not be on line ordering during XXX days.

might not be fool proof but 1 more snag to slow the crook down.

Our bank has a great solution for this problem. They had us open a free checking account that comes with a debit card. We use this debit card only for traveling and internet purchase. We keep only the amount of money we need in there for these two things so that if anyone steals the number we don't lose what's in our main checking, or they don't have a chance to run up our CC bill. Brilliant solution! It happens every day no matter where you are. Last time it happened to me was at a hotel in Oklahoma!

VERY good advice! I'm one who never looked at my statements, and thank God I never had a problem (that I know of), but I do now. And letting the CC company know your specifics is something I never thought of!:thumbsup2

I recall awhile back when someone on the board said there credit card information had been stolen while staying at Disney and others on the board thought they were lying. Just goes to show your info isn't safe anywhere.

I just heard from a friend that they've now shut down Saratoga Springs Resort!!! Is this true & is it related to this incident?:confused3

I have not heard this and do not see it online anywhere. If SSR truly is closed (which I can't believe wouldn't be big news?) I doubt it's related to this as she was caught several months ago.

There's more info in the Disunplugged forum but this is NOT the Saratoga Springs resort on property.
