So I know the new generation just came out (RIP genius Steve Jobs btw) and it's $199 for the 8G. My DD14 wants one for Xmas and $199 would REALLY be pushing the limit for us. She said she didn't know if 8G would be enough (as she may try to save up for it on her own since she "knows" we wouldn't ever buy her one). Wouldn't an 8G hold a lot of songs and apps? Can more memory be added later or no, not like a computer?
Lastly, doubtful that there will be any Black Friday deals on this?
Thanks for any information!!
I think the 8G would be too small. Our 14yo daughter got the 32G this summer. A friend of mine was wondering about the 8G also so I had my daughter check how much space she was using. She is just over 8 (and she's only had it since July so I'm sure she will add a lot more over time). My daughter also said that a couple of her friends have the 8G and they have to dump apps or music to add new items.
I couldn't speculate on whether you'll find deals later. (I'm not very good at following this stuff.

) I'd just keep your eyes and ears open during the next few months. And, encourage your daughter to start saving now. You could always make her Christmas gift a gift of cash toward her Touch. We don't generally spend that much on gifts for our kids either, so that's how we worked it. Our daughter saved and we pitched in.
For what it's worth: We were really uncertain about buying our daughter a Touch or even letting her buy it with her own money. It's a really expensive and somewhat fragile item. We also were concerned about how much the apps and music would run after she had it. Now that she has it, I can honestly say it was well worth the money. She uses it constantly. For music, videos, camera, texting, games and internet access. She likes to cook and has found some great recipe apps that break down the recipe into shopping lists. It's totally cool and really useful too.

And she's only spent $50 so far for all the items she's loaded (birthday gift cards from aunts/uncles/grandparents).
I don't think you can go wrong as long as she's careful with it. They do break easily (my daughter knows a lot of kids who dropped and broke them). If your daughter pays for it herself, hopefully she be more invested in taking care of it.

But, I'd get a really good quality case for it, just in case.
I hope this helps.
