Club run disney

Clearly they are trying to continue limiting membership, so I agree that getting in the door at any level is probably your best bet. I started at Silver, which I quickly realized was mostly worthless, but I ended up getting two years out of it since they extended during the pandemic. I upgraded to Platinum at my first opportunity and just renewed at that level, in part because I want to preserve the opportunity even in years I may not be doing as many races.

Now that I know the scarcity of it, I'm more likely to hold onto it. I was able to buy platinum last year without too much issue. So I wasn't sure what the "normal" was going to be.

Agree! Having experienced the perks of membership, and aware of the demand, feel like it’s going to become another one of those coveted Disney things to never give up, unless you’re truly done with runDisney. Thankfully, haven’t hit that point yet, so I might be stuck renewing as long as possible to do so.

I’m always surprised to see how much Disney asks for platinum and there are actually people buying it.
Below is my opinion on all perks listed on the website.

Benefits include:
  • Member Welcome Kit: Member Jacket, Club runDisney Magnet, Membership Card, Club runDisney Virtual 10K Medal, Club runDisney Member Pin
    • exclusive merchandise that can be a reason to become a member, but very overpriced if you look at the total price.
  • Tier 1 pricing year-round for available runDisney Races
    • worthless, since almost all races sell out on day one.
  • Exclusive 2023 Club runDisney Virtual 10K – October 2023
    • same as first benefit
  • Club runDisney designation on race bibs
    • Worthless, showing people you paid a premium.
  • A guaranteed opportunity to purchase two race registrations in each race weekend through early registration
    • if you really want to and commit time and devices/tabs I think it’s possible to register to 99% of the races.
  • Club runDisney Expo Experience including:
    • Club runDisney Headquarters with convenient packet pick-up
    • Early access to runDisney Merchandise Shop
      • only saves some time, but not worth the price.
  • Upgraded corral placement
    • in my opinion 90% of the people are able to achieve pot for corral b if they train consistently for a year. Follow the right training plan, have enough rest and don’t train too hard. But most importantly consistency over a longer period. Some people might need closer to two years.
  • Early access to renew your Club runDisney Membership before sales open to the general public
    • worthless if you don’t need the membership in the first place.
these are my opinions and I’m open to any arguments to convince me it’s worth it. After all it’s your own money and you can choose how to spend it.

I tend to agree with you on things like the membership kit, the tier one pricing and the upgrade of corral placement. Where I start to differ in my opinion is the ability to register for two events early, early access to merchandise and a special place to pick up my bib.

Registration - You mention with time and devices it’s possible to register for 99% of races. I agree I have been able to mostly register for my desired races but I have to log in early and like you mention I have at least 3 devices going with multiple browsers. I make it in (after refreshing for 30 minutes or so) and usually have an hour wait that sometimes drops fast or I get lucky enough that some kind person on here gives me a better time and I’m in to register and back out in an hour to 90 minutes. I do at least 3 races per year so I spend more than four hours in registration at a minimum (plus some mental anguish over the whole process lol). On a side note you all will pry laugh but going through that process with all of you is kind of fun. I feel like it bonds me to everyone on here in a special way lol.

Early Merchandise - I get into the virtual queue at exactly the posted time and usually get a group number less than 20. I go to the sports complex and wait for my group to be called. Sometimes it’s an hour, SS was faster. I go in only to find some merchandise is already sold out or only available in a size x-small (passholder alien spirit jersey I’m looking at you). I grab my merch and head over to pick up my bib.

Packet pick up - with the addition of merch virtual queue this one is taking me longer. At Princess I waited in a long line that took somewhere around 45 minutes. SS was faster. But I defiantly log time cooling my jets in a winding line and wasting time I could be in the park.

If I think about those registration hours and the fact that I must take time off work to do that I start to see the benefits of membership. Granted I take vacation hours to do it so I’m still getting paid but those are vacation hours I could be using at Disney or on a beach. I also think of my hourly wage or time lost in the park spending time in the virtual queue for merch (only to get in there and find out it’s sold out) and packet pick up. Do I think the memberships are expensive. For sure. But for me my time is more precious than the cost.

This is just my opinion and I see where some will find it not worth it at all and some will find great benefit in it. I think some of it comes down to how you view your time and your family’s financial situation. As I age I find time is most precious to me :-)

The key component to all of those things is the stress and anxiety of each one.

Yes, with proper preparation you can usually get into the races using multiple browsers and some patience, but there is a cost in time, stress and anxiety.

Yes, I can get into the merchandise VQ and hope I get a low number, but I still have to fight the crowds inside, deal with a sea of people, hope what I wanted was still in stock. More stress. More anxiety.

Bib pickup, less stressful but time consuming. Waiting in line or going later is time consuming and I have better ways to use my time.

runDisney weekends are already a lot of stress, a lot of dealing with people, a lot of self-created anxiety and there is a limit to how much of that I can handle. Club runDisney membership allows me to have more in the tank to deal with that.

You’re definitely wrong about the ease of signing up for races normally. People here are pretty locked in with what you should do to sign up and they still occasionally miss out. I lost out on Dumbo because of a dumb registration glitch and was barely able to sign up for the races individually. I think it’ll start to get easier to sign up over time but there’s a very good reason people have chosen CrD to bypass all this garbage.

One thing I’ll say is that if interest in RD starts to tail off a bit and race availability stays open for at least a full day, I think some people with CrD will start to reconsider whether it’s worth the price. But these races keep selling out in hours! Sometimes in less than an hour! On top of that as of right now you have one shot at DL races each year. All of those races sold out in an hour and some people weren’t able to register. Im sure some of them started to look at CrD as a way to guarantee registration for 2025.

I can’t discern whether or not you really want to be convinced or if you’re just sharing your own opinion. Regardless, i value my time and the ability to not have to rush to make a decision on registration day. Knowing I receive my guaranteed entries and 7 days to decide, is what I’m paying for- not a jacket or membership kit or virtual medal. I can register at my leisure, talk with my family, consider travel options and overall cost depending on if this is a race weekend for just me or for others who may travel with me.

I also value my time once I arrive especially if I have my family with me. I can be in and out of pick up and the merch tent in under 30 minutes.

Regarding corral placement- you truly believe 90% of runners at a runDisney event can average a 9mm to qualify for a POT in Corral B? Okay.

Not a Club runDisney person. For me there is no point.
1. I am not a ā€œmaterial girl,ā€ so the jacket, free medal, membership card, magnet, and designation on the bib stuff is useless to me.
2. I have months before registration day to decide what races I want, so 7 extra days doesn’t mean anything.
3. I don’t have stress and anxiety about registration: I get in or I don’t. Only once did I miss out on Goofy, so I chose the half instead. As it turned out, that year was cancelled because of Covid, and I was glad I had only the half to do virtually.
4. The time it takes? With the exception of that crazy MW when we crashed the system, I usually log on with 2-3 devices about 15 minutes ahead of time, and I’m usually registered within an hour. As for bib pickup, I wait until after the rush and am in and out in less than an hour, with no lines. (Ref. the ā€œnot a material girlā€ comment.)
5. I can no longer get a POT for an early corral (best 10K last year was 1:03, this year it was 1:06 in the same race, so I’m slowing down), but I’m 68 years old and don’t need to be in B. I have been a C starter in most Disney races lately, but even in the case of MW 2022 when I estimated that I could finish the marathon in 5:30-6:00 and was in the last corral, I was passing lots of B corral people with Club rD designations. At my pace, I don’t need to be bumped up to B and clog up the course for the faster runners.

So, I don’t need Club rD, and if I did, I’d have a hard time justifying the cost. I’d probably prefer to go the charity route. But other people have different lives and different personalities, so I see the appeal for others.

This made me chuckle. You would have to look pretty dang close to see the Club rD designation on a bib.

Not sure why this thread is suddenly turning into a "Why I don't think club membership is worth it". We get it. It's not for everyone. We have all heard they nay sayers since day one. However, obviously, for a large group of us it IS worth it for whatever our personal reasons. I don't think we need to justify why it's worth it.

You absolutely don’t need to justify it. As I said: ā€œSo, I don’t need Club rD, and if I did, I’d have a hard time justifying the cost. I’d probably prefer to go the charity route. But other people have different lives and different personalities, so I see the appeal for others.ā€

Sorry. I meant no offense.

Very curious to see so many posts arguing why Club runD isn't worth it. Ok. Good for you. I'm here to buy it! The corral B placement and guaranteed bibs are 100% worth it for me. (And for the record, no, 90% of runners will not quality for POT with a proper training plan, etc.)

But I came in today to ask: Where should I be on the runD website to register this morning? Is it just this page and the "register now" links will appear at 10am?

Yes. I can see a ā€œregister nowā€ link down on the platinum level

EDIT: now that link disappeared
