Club 33 expansion and resulting new exteriors

The two windows on the right are the new additions. I hope you guys are right in thinking they are temporary!

THey had plantation shutters on those windows previously IIRC.
All 4 windows are new. The wall in this area has been moved several feet out, to expand the interior hallway.

While it is quite obvious that many exterior details have not been completed, all the windows appear to be the final design.

Before the remodel, from a different angle:

The windows and door look like they tried to match the Club 33 instead of the look of NOS. Now, without even going into whether Walt would have made Club 33 more visible or class warfare etc. I think anyone can definitely say he would never have disrupted the theme of the area to do it. He was meticulous about show and even having the CM not be seen in the wrong area in costume.
This looks jarring, especially the bridge, to the rest of NOS. I always thought NOS was the prettiest and most themed area of DL and I find this appalling of WDI to have designed this so badly. This makes WDI look bad when we have all seen the pics of what the Universal imagineers did with HP Diagon Alley theming. I certainly hope they fix this quickly but you can never tell with Disney, sometimes they hit it out of the ball park. But, sometimes there is a big disconnect and they don't even hit the ball.:confused3

Is the Court of Angels still intact? It's my understanding that it is, however, am not positive.

Wow! Thanks for all of the photos, Nonsuch!!

I'm looking at the original dining room in its new incarnation

and I'm not sure what I think. Here I tend to agree that the finished product will probably look very nice, but it's hard to see it in these photos and think of the opulence of the former room without some nostalgia. I don't have very good pictures of the old dining room, though I'm sure there are many if you google it. This is the only one I can find that shows much of the room as I (a) am a terrible photographer and (b) tend to take pictures of people rather than places.

I do hope they do something more with the drapery and that glaring new window. I'm sure they must have something more in mind for that, at least. I wish they'd left it as a fireplace, though! As of now, the room looks to me like a generic chain restaurant, but I'm willing to allow time for getting it all fitted out before my final judgment :rotfl:

Cheers, old dining room!

An elevator has been added, and the second floor has walls and windows (previously a railing).

Thank you.
It is ghastly! That image looks strongly reminiscent of an alley way leading from a French bistro! :faint:
I feel sorry for people that will never have an opportunity to visit the Court of Angels. It is like blasphemy that it was trashed for the sake of capital interest. I will never, ever get over this figurative and visual smack in the face.

Perhaps some of these "unorthodox" things (i.e. the window) are actually in keeping with what you would see in NOLA?

1) I hate that giant, clunky elevator taking up space in the Court of Angels;

2) That off-center window makes me laugh whenever I see it;

3) The dining room chairs do not photograph well. I am hoping that they look wonderful and amazing in person, but in photos they don't look very good; and

4) While I'm sure that I will have a different impression if I am ever fortunate enough to visit the new version of Club 33, and I am hopeful that more work will be done on it, right now -- just from the photos I have seen -- it does appear that a bit of the mystique and allure of the club have been (at least visually) reduced. Again, it may look fantastic in person, but the photos certainly do not capture the feel of a high-end, intimate private club/restaurant.

After seeing the pics, I feel even more Blessed, I had the opportunity to see it, as Walt and Lillian designed it.

Thank You, to my Benefactor once again.:wizard:

Maybe in the current NOLA, but NOS was designed to be 1850s NOLA, neither modern nor Art Nouveau-esque. I love Art Nouveau, and have no real issue with using it in Club 33, but I object to including it in the exteriors. I could probably even be ok with that if it was tastefully integrated into the existing area with plenty of ornate detail as evidenced in the original.

Thanks, Gisele! It's one of my better pictures. I'm actually a lot uglier than that. :rotfl2:

AGREED! the Court of Angels was such a calm and peaceful place.
oh, well.....I'm not likely going to actually get into 33, along with most, so the exterior details should be most important and not RUIN the feel of NOS. :confused3

I beg to differ! I have actually met you, so I know. :)

It was my understanding that the elevator was put in due to ADA requirements.

So, I think that "the sake of capital interest" means that DLR actually gets permission to run Club 33, not because they wanted to get rid of the Court of Angels.

Thank you.

I was upset when I learned that the public was losing access to the Court of Angels when the news first broke. After seeing that picture, I am completely distraught.

Agree!

I am so very thankful I had the opportunity to dine there before this renovation and I really hope it is not done yet on the outside and inside!

Yes. If you were in a wheelchair, the only way for you to access Club 33 wasn't very dignified at all, and those legitimate ADA issues are not to be minimized. It has nothing to do with monetizing a beloved spot and everything to do with the fact that there simply wasn't another spot to create an entrance that was ADA compliant.
