I've heard wearing brown & black together is wrong. Like a solid chocolate brown shirt & solid black pants for example.

Today, I needed to buy new dress pants since my others no longer fit. I bought a solid black pair and a solid chocolate brown pair.

The clothing line also had a solid chocolate brown top that I loved & the cut was flattering on me. It came in several other colors, like solid black. Also a berry & a blue that I just didn't care for either of the shades. Red would have been better. There was a patterned version in black, brown & cream, but it was just really busy when I put it on. Plus size should never come in busy patterns. :sad2:

Would it also be wrong to wear the solid brown top with the solid brown pants? Exact same color. Too boring I think. And black top & black pants reminds me of going to a funeral. So I got another shirt with some black in it to go with the black pants.

But what the heck am I supposed to wear this chocolate brown top with? What color pants? :rotfl:

Fashion is not my thing.

If you wear brown with brown, get some jewelry to break it up. Or maybe a scarf. Any accessory will help. Otherwise, I'd get Khaki colored dress pants to wear with the brown if you can find some. I do not care for brown with black. I don't know if it's fashion savvy to wear brown with black, but I myself don't think it looks right together.

i have a chocolate brown shirt that I wear with a white skirt or with jeans....other than that, I don't know what colors it would look good with.

I agree with PP. Solid pants and shirt can really be jazzed up with a great pin, necklace, or scarf.

I don't like or ever wear brown with black or black with navy.

I have a nice brown shirt type shirt that I wear with blue jeans. But this new brown shirt won't go with jeans....at least not for the holidays.

Good idea on the scarf or jewelry. Will look into that.

No less than 3 women wore solid brown with solid black to work last Friday. We were joking that a memo must've gone out for the color scheme of the day. LOL

Our dress code is business-casual and they all looked really nice. Two of them had on chocolate brown tops (1 was a heavy sweater, the other was a lighter long-sleeved top), and the third woman had a black cable knit sweater with white blouse collar peeking out of the top, with chocolate brown slacks.

I've worn dark cinnamon brown with black, and got compliments on it. I think brown and black can look very nice together, and apparently so do other people. ::yes::

Just the other day, my aunt had on black pants, a brown top and a leopard print scarf (black and brown "spots" on a tan background). Black shoes. She looked very chic.

You can certainly wear the brown top & brown pants, especially if they are exact. Could you wear a cami under the top...maybe pink, white, or tan...to break it up a little? Or, as some PPs suggested, a scarf or some really funky jewelry. Or how about a leopard scarf and leopard shoes???? Or tie the scarf around your waist as a belt? Or get a gold chain style belt. Or get a blazer to go over the brown/brown ensemble...again, pink & brown is a big combo, or even a brown tweed blazer or that herringbone print.

Similar to this at Lands End:

I wear Brown and brown with one of those multi chain necklaces-or maybe a scarf around the neck. I also like brown shirts with jeans.:)

It's fine to wear brown and black together, the only thing I would worry about it that it might look too dark (depending on the shade of brown). Accessories are a great way to complete a look like this, though. Chunky necklaces, scarves or nice big bracelets. And don't discount wearing your shirt with jeans, if you could find a nice dark wash trouser jean, I bet it would look great and dressy.

According to What Not to Wear, brown is a neutral (as is navy blue) so brown and black can be paired together. It actually can look quite good, depending on the clothing. More exciting would be maybe a tan, a white, a pink, or something else that looks good when you lay it next to the shirt. Good luck!

A dark brown shirt also looks good with khaki pants. I tend to wear a light cardigan if I'm wearing a brown shirt with brown pants. Pink, green, and lavender all look good with a solid brown outfit and then I don't look quite so monochromatic.

I had decided for myself a while back that solid black will go with A N Y T H I N G. Mostly because my clothing budget is this big.

Regardless; I think that the rich look of a chocolate brown and a solid black would look great, especially with a scarf or something to add to it. DD is very into scarves this year, and there are some GORGEOUS ones out there! :thumbsup2

This lady I used to work with used to come in on casual Friday with a brown sweater and black pants. It looks really great together. The brown has to be "just right" though.

OP -- Gotta ask. Is the line the Dana Buchman stuff at Kohl's? I wear borderline women's/misses and those pants may be the most flattering I have ever found. I'm so disappointed that the women's only come in brown and black. I want navy, khaki and jeans!

The pants are great, aren't they? I wear a size 8 and they fit me REALLY well. The only complaint I have is that I could use one more inch in length. I cannot wear heels with the pants. I have a navy pair I bought last year that matches a sweater, and I just bought a pair of the trouser style jeans. Just an all over great fit and perfect for casual days at work.

I do wish they had some different colors.

If "you" like how the items look together, that's the only thing that's important.. Some of the "fashions" today are so hideous I can't believe that people actually wear them just so they are "in fashion"..

The only person you need to please is yourself - not the "masses"..:goodvibes
