No, this is not about proper dress at dinner:rolleyes:. I read the following on another thread...

"I wore a Disney Cruise Line t-shirt the last day of our Mariner cruise, and I will admit it - it was sort of a jab at RCCL in my own little way. Several RCCL staff members chuckled and one even called me a traitor. Well, that is one traitor I will be any day!"

DH and I will be on the Carnival Legend in 2 weeks and he plans on taking a few of his DCL/Castaway Key t shirts to wear around the pool etc. Is this in poor taste? I do not see anything wrong with it but I do not want to tick off any staff members on CCL.

Nancy

Isn't it kind of like wearing a Yankees shirt to a Red Sox Game? I would definatey think its poor taste to wear to dinner, but around the pool? Unless he doesn't have any other t-shirts, I would leave them home.

Nancy, tell him to wear whatever he wants to wear. If anything, he might get a little good-natured ribbing. But honestly, all the cruiselines know cruisers use multiple lines, even if they all hope you'll cruise only them (it's all about the almighty dollar you know), so go, have a good time and tell DH to be comfy.

Belize, Costa Rica and Panama! That sounds great!

IMHO, I think it's fine to wear the shirts. He's just expressing that he enjoys cruising, and particularly DCL. Maybe it will give Carnival something to aspire to--or maybe you'll enjoy Carnival even more! (From what I've read on these boards, that may be unlikely--but we are a little biased;) .)

Have a great trip!

Tell them to give you a free T-shirt and you will wear it.

Honestly, I see no problem with it! Enjoy your cruise!

Okay - so I guess I was the only one that read the thread and interpreted it differently, I thought the OP was trying to start something, like Hah - in your face, I just relized that was a clip from another post!!! Again, not dinner, but no problem wearing other t-shirts!

GO FOR IT!! Unfortunatly you won't be in any ports with a DCL ship so you won't have the sounding of the horn "battle" that would just add to the "jab" at the other cruise ships!

BTW when I am forced to wear a tie to work I usually pick my black and white Mickey tie. It's not subtle at all and I do wear it to make a point that ties are rediculuous. (Just heard a news story where businesses are starting to move back to highly uncomfortable traditional workplace dress codes - because uncomfortable, but traditionally dressed employees "APPEAR" to be more productive)

Thanks for the replies. The t shirts are brand new and dh figured he might as well use them on the cruise for around the pool etc. I love DCL but I did not want to really offend any CCL staff members. I can't imagine that they would be upset but I just needed to get some other opinions. Will let you know how Carnival compares (or doesn't) to DCL when I return.

Nancy

We took the Legend from NY in Oct. 2003. I doubt anyone would think poorly of people wearing a different cruise line's shirt. In fact, I bet it would be a great ice breaker. You will be pleasantly surprised at the Legend. She has so many beautiful rooms to look at, and the dining opportunities are better than Disney, once you get used to the room not changing from black and white to color ; ) Put Carnival's old reputation out of your mind because in my experience, The Legend couldn't be accused of those negative things so many people associate Carnival with.

I have to say we run into that same delema visiting amusement parks other than WDW (against my wishes of course because I didn't know there were any others before I met him). My husband rolls his eyes at me because I don't go to an OTD (other than Disney) amusement park without doning one of my WDW or at least Mickey t-shirts. I don't do it to get attention or to be offensive but to show my loyalty. (he will do the same thing when we are at WDW and wear a BG Williamsburg shirt just to even the score) To me it's like wearing your college colors. I have never been critized except once and the most that person said was "hey lady! Wrong park!" and laughed it off. Usually the response is very positive and because I try to wear some of my more unique ones, collected through the years, they usually ask me where I got it and regail delightful tales of their own experiences at a WD parks.

Wear your colors loud and proud!!!! Most folks are professionals and understand that kind of loyalty or really won't care!!!

I agree with gizfish - I think it would be a great ice breaker. It shows that you have cruised before and people are likely to ask you how you liked it and what the differences are.

I think it was MJ's post that showed someone on a Princess cruise showing a Castaway Club towel (which means they cruised at least twice on DCL).

I say go for it!

I wouldn't even have given it a second thought. I'll bet quite a few people on your RCCL cruise have been on DCL and were looking forward to being back on DCL!

I love wearing the "wrong" shirt on cruises, at amusement parks, etc. We're gotten lots of good-natured ribbing and lots of comments (all in fun). We've worn RCCL shirts on Disney and visa versa, and we like to wear Disney wear at Six Flags and Universal and visa versa too. My favorite incident happened at Epcot. I was wearing a Six Flags Great America t-shirt, and all of a sudden several CMs drove up in a mini decorated car, stopped, yelled "Wrong park!" and then drove away! Hubby and I just lookd at each other and broke up laughing.

Yep....on the trip pics post I have a pic of a DIS'ER who was on the Golden Princess that was docked across from us in St. Maarten....he was a CC member and proudly duct taped his CC towel on his verandah!!!!

Take a look!!!

I have cruised other lines and always see people wearing different cruise lines' shirts....I love to wear my DCL stuff....it is definately a conversation starter and none of the crew or staff gets upset...it is not in bad taste at all.

Thanks to all for the great responses about dh's t shirts. We are getting very excited about our cruise...only 8 more days.

Gizfish - I have heard both good and bad reviews about CCL, but the Legend has wonderful reviews and I am looking forward to stepping into that "Atrium of Urns" I have heard so much about. Thank you for putting my mind at ease.

Inkognito - you and Tony are our idols. I cruised once on DCL for 3 days, came home and immediately booked a 7 day. We are booked for our 2nd 7 day in December. It will be interesting to see how CCL compares although I keep telling myself that I should take each cruise line on its own merits.

I will post when we get back.

Come one folks, we're talking pool wear here, not evening wear. Let the poor guy wear what he wants, who the heck cares? Poor taste to wear a DCL t-shirt on a competing line. I'd love to see Miss Manners reply to that one.

Yes Nancy, remember to take each on it's own, but most of all - have a wonderful time.

I am interested in your take on ship layout, since the Legend and the Magic/Wonder are almost identical in size.

Have a good time.

My favorite was when DD wore a Disneyland shirt in the Magic Kingdom. Those of you who have met "Push" the talking trash can can relate to his comments about being about 3000 miles out of place, etc. She loved it.

I'd wear anything I wanted at the pool!

Yes, wear the shirts.
