Clothes that fit Am Girl Dolls

Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can find clothes that fit the American girl dolls?
I refuse to spend more money on doll clothes then I do for my children. The dolls were a gift from their uncle and I am grateful that he bought them but now I would like to get them some outfits as Chrstmas and need some help.

From what I understand, the dolls that Target sells that are similar to AG will fit AG dolls. My dd has 4 AG dolls, and she asks Grandma for the clothes for Xmas. So, we don't have to purchase the clothes.

It would be better to watch for sales at AG or find them on craigslist, etc instead of buying the clothes from Target or Michael's.

The offbrands don't fit well and really look cheap. There are also places to find handmade outfits that will be cheaper (etsy, ebay).

But you can find decent sales at AG online sometimes and since you have time I would keep checking there.

Different opinion here, I think the Target "Our Generation" clothes are fine for a kid's play doll. You can also find doll clothes to fit AG dolls on eBay for reasonable prices. Another site is www.dollcloset.com; I haven't bought anything from there personally but I know others who recommend it.

Right now there is one outfit in the AG sale section that fits the 18" AG dolls ... it is $7.00. We have that outfit and it is cute ... you really can't beat the contruction and detailing of the AG clothes.

Not sure if AG has free shipping or not right now, but you might want to check for a code.

I also think the Target line is great. Some of my kid's favorite outfits are Target rather than AG. ACMoore sometimes carries outfits that fit AG dolls. I've also gotten some very nice handmade outfits for a reasonable price at craft fairs, etc.

Like the target line, as well. My daughter found a cowgirl outfit at Target that she just loves to put on her Julie doll. I won't buy the clothes at AG either. I give my daughter a choice as to where she wants to spend her allowance and gift money. She can shop at AG or Target with her own money. She always picks Target and says she likes the clothes and she can get more for her dolls with her money at Target.

I will not spend full price either so I wait for the sales on AG. I have bought from ebay and bought homemade clothing from ebay also..

FYI on the Target clothes- we had bad luck with long sleeved tops. OG dolls have more of a closed hand than AG (or Goetz, which is mostly what DD has.) The hand wouldn't fit through the arm cuff.

We didn't have luck with the Target brand either, the shoes would not fit and the arms were too small on some things. Watch for the AG sales you can get some outfits for the same price but much superior quality.

I guess I'll check out AG sales and ebay too as I want to get the doll clothes for my DD for Christmas.

We only have the original Samantha outfit. I found a crocheted vest to fit the doll so I hope to make one.

I've bought close from the doll closet, and they are fine for AG dolls.

If you can, check out some local craft fairs. We were at a craft fair last fall and there was a lady there who made clothes for AG dolls. They were really nice.
