Someone told me they'd heard a rumor that one of the countries is Closing? Is that even a possibility?

Probably not happening, Im sure that with the space still available in World Showcase coupled with the fact that overhead on the pavilions is pretty low that all the current countries are safe. It would be a huge waste of $$$ to tear down one of the already built countries for a re-build, especially since most are full of stores and restaurants.

I suppose at some point they could close the African Outpost if there were going to put in a more permanent/full-fledged pavilion in that spot

I would be very surprised if they closed one of the main countries though (unless it was temporary for a major makeover or something)

Curious... why would they even do that?

I guess they could close Mexico so they could retheme a second boat ride to be ready for the release of Frozen 2.
They could use Germany. It after all does get cold there and has mountains and is close to Denmark...

I can't imagine them ever closing a country. Unless a country pulls out maybe?

I thought the countries no longer actually sponsor the pavilions?

Thanks everyone. I didn't think it likely, but I wanted to make sure before talking to this person again. :flower:

Other than morocco...they never did.

Disney sent out 31 country invitations in 1978 to sponsor pavilions...and got 31 rejections. What they did was change the approach and get sponsorship from companies associated with countries.

They are all long gone.

They could close Norway now if they want. I mean, it's not about Norway anymore anyway.

By many folks standards Norway is already closed. ;)

Only Morocco has involvement in the pavilion. Even when the others got money it was corporate sponsorships, not countries.

Ooops ... sorry, yours wasn't there when I was typing.

I've heard a rumor regarding Mexico. That the pavilion and/or boat ride to be re-themed for the Coco movie coming out. Still Mexico....

I'm going to guess replace grand fiesta with coco and move the caballeros to the rumored Brazil pavilion

I was thinking beyond sponsoring. Say if China decided that they weren't being represented well and didn't want to be in World Showcase any longer. Would they have any recourse? Is there any type of agreement when it comes to this representation? I expect not.

Nope. They really don't have a say in any way.

China is a weird case in that Disney Shanghai is a joint venture between Disney and the Shendi group which is a state controlled company. So Disney is somewhat beholden to the Chinese government, and I expect if they wanted their representation changed in EPCOT Disney would be inclined to do so. Other countries don't have that kind of relationship with Disney.
