Closest Off-Site Hotel??

I'm sure I've read this somewhere but at the moment it escapes me.

Which off-site hotel is the closest to the maingate and also the nicest hotel?

Thought about staying at one of the resort hotels but the rates are just too much since we will be going in December.

The two hotels that flank the crosswalk are Best Western Park Place and Tropicana. AS for nicest? I think that is relative

fairfield Inn is real nice and pretty close to ( 10 minutes to the gate) and it has mimi's milli's and mcdonalds right next to it!!

We seriously walked it in 5 minutes. 7-10 minutes is the distance to Hojos depending on how fast you walk.
OP another vote for Fairfield if you want nice and close. Also I hear good things about Candy Cane Inn, but it is a further walk than Hojos going in the opposite direction.

I was going to mention Candy Cane Inn since I think it is one of the nicer places that is close to the parks but since it isn't the "closest off-site hotel" like OP wanted I wasn't sure if it was what they were looking for. But I'm not sure that it's farther than Hojos. I've never walked from Hojo's but on the map they look about the same distance with CCI maybe being slightly closer. CCI also has a shuttle which is nice and they have a pretty good free breakfast.

Yeah, someone posted one of those google maps that map out the walking distance of the hotel to the entry plaza and CCI was further than Hojos in the opposite direction. I think I saw one from Mouseplanet too recently that showed the same thing. I can't find it now, but it was within the last couple of weeks...But since CCI has their own shuttle, the distane doesn't really matter. I forgot about that...

And the OP did say "and the nicest" which I took to mean she wanted to know which is closest and the nicest. A friend of mine recently stayed at Park Vue Inn and she hated it. Said, "It's like a former apartment/motel, low rent, walk up, where you literally drive up to your room. I didn't feel safe. It was just okay." I've heard good things about BWPPI, primarily being that it is the closest and most convenient, but that some of the rooms are currently being remodeled so if you are next to one of those, don't expect to be able to take a nap during the afternoon. That's why I reccomended FFI or Hojos or CCI -- the closest and nicest. I've stayed at Hojos & FFI and I would've stayed at CCI except that on that particular trip last year, my DH decided he wanted Hojos again...And in years past I would've stayed at BWPPI based on their reputation, but my DH doesn't like the small parking lot and again open corridors. FFI doesn't feel like an open corridor motel because it has 9 floors and you have to go through the lobby and up the elevators to get to any of the higher floor hotel rooms.

The Candy Cane Inn isn't the closest, but it's a 5-10 minute walk. My husband and I thought it was really nice and even though it's so close, it still has a free shuttle which we utilized many times! I thought it was decently priced as well.

We like the Park Vue, it works well for us and we have been able to get great deals here in the past. You CANNOT beat the location! We never felt unsafe staying there - it is quiet and clean. Yes, you park your car outside your door, but we LIKE that. The car is not off in some unseen location for a week. What I usually find with those that don't like Park Vue, is that they were expecting luxury. It is all about what you have psyched yourself up for. Tell you what, though, you guys all stay @ one of the other Harbor hotels, that way I can still continue to get my good deals @ Park Vue!

We stayed at the Park Vue in March and loved it. You can't beat the location.
That being said though, HOJO's is MUCH nicer and worth the extra few minuts on the walk.

here's another vote for the park vue inn - we were just there in july - right at the gate- room was clean - had a queen and bunks - fridge, coffee maker. i had no compaints- oh and breakfast too.

plus one thing to look at is how long you can keep your car in the hotel lot the day you check out. a few places told me our car had to be out by noon or 3pm of our day of check out - since that was our day at the park obviously that was no good. the park vue allows you to keep your car there - the day of check out - till midnite.

Another vote for Park Vue. I stayed there in 2004 and liked it. Suited our needs and the breakfast was good. As for the location, you can't get any closer without being a Disney Resort. I will be staying there again in Nov.

I'll chime in for Park Vue! You walk out the door to your hotel, and you are AT the crosswalk.
we stayed here in '07 in the bunk bed room, and it was cool to watch the fireworks outside of our door.
The only downside we found was the pool is not heated, and although it was in the 70's. it was wayyyyy too cold to swim!

Alex Stroup wrote a really interesting article for Mouse Planet "How Far Is It?" http://www.mouseplanet.com/7280/How_Far_Is_It This actually uses googlemaps pedometer to measure the distance in FEET, to the center of the Esplanade. It's interesting to note that some of the rooms in the DL hotel are actually farther away than many of the crosswalk hotels on Harbor, although there again, it depends on if you are staying at the front of the property or way at the back.

I continue to maintain that the nicest hotel within walking distance on Harbor is HoJo. If you can get the Entertainment book rate, it's unbeatable. http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14 It has a wonderful water play area for the kids, next to the hot tub, plus a big pool-- great service-- heavenly comfortable beds in big, clean rooms. It's the only hotel on Harbor with inside corridors (though for some people that doesn't really make a difference). Last October we stayed in a Deluxe park view room on the top floor of Building one with a great view of the Matterhorn, for $79 a night. The walk is about 7 minutes. Love it!

Phew I am glad there were a few positive reviews for Park Vue. We will be there in a few weeks and after reading the recent reviews on Trip Advisor I was starting to panic.
I am definately not expecting much and we only need the room to sleep, so fingers crossed.

Last time we stayed at Camelot Inn and Suites, it was a 5 minute walk and quiet nice but the worst beds I have ever slept in worldwide.
