Closest hotels to Universal?

Hi! I am toying with the idea of planning a trip to both WDW and Universal next September, and I was thinking about staying at a hotel close to Universal for a couple of nights, and then on-site at Disney. I was wondering what were the closets hotels to the Universal property (NOT their own hotels - I am aware of those; I want to see if there are any places for which I have membership cards/perks/rewards).

I stayed at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott right off of I-Drive. It was only about a 5-minute drive to US, it was a very nice clean hotel with a free continental breakfast buffet including hot items, and they gave us a free upgrade to a suite, all I had to do was ask if there were any available! I highly recommend it. They also have a US planning desk in the lobby where they will give you a packet of information, you can pick up your maps and see the park hours, and they were very helpful.

Thanks - I am looking for something with a shuttle service or within walking distance b/c if we [later] stay onsite at Disney we won't other with a rental car.

remember that the FOLE is worth around $50 per day - so you need to add that to all the hotel prices when you compare them to the Universal hotels. Especially if you are going during a busy season when FOLE is needed.

Spicey's right,
you say you don't want to stay onsite at US/IOA but you can use your room key like an unlimited Fast Pass. We stayed onsite for 1 night,and were able to use the keys from early am on check-in day until park closing the day of check out. The water taxi is so relaxing. It's soooo worth the extra money and giving up any FF miles, points, perks, etc. We loved it!!
