When we checked into the WLV on Feb. 24 during the signin process they showed and had us sign a document that had in it highlighted in green the statement that all rooms and balconies were non-smoking and a $250 fee could be accessed if we violated this policy. Being a non-smoker, I was glad to sigh. I mention this because others have noted that when they checked in they were not told or had to sign anything about this. Have others had this happen to them or is this new??..smjj

I have been twice since the new rules.

Last June right after the new rules went into effect. I had a reservation at BC for a smoking room. I was told to smoke on my balcony and a a maid brought me an ashtray.

In November I stayed at the Pop. Nothing said on checkin and nothing signed. I was at the pool one night and asked a lifeguard where the smoking area was and he said anywhere outside.

I will say that since my last two trips, I personally will not be staying on Disney property again. I never smoked in the room since I have children but DH and I enjoyed a glass of wine and a cigarette on the balcony before bed.

I also have been with just the kids and I, so staying on Disney property is definately out of the question. I would never leave the kids in a room or drag them to a DSA with me.

IMHO, this is the problem. People want to smoke and obey the rules, but they don't know what they are and Disney is not enforcing them. If Disney would decide what the rules are and enforce them, I think both smokers and nonsmokers would be happier.

I don't smoke, but my boyfriend who I am taking on a Disney vacation in May, does. We are staying at the All Star Music resort, and I've looked at the map and am somewhat dismayed to see only two DSA on the entire map. It looks like, depending on where our room is, he may have quite a walk if he wants to smoke. Is smoking permitted in some areas (pool side bar, maybe) that are not specifically indicated on the map?

Also, what about smoking outside the gates of the parks before entering and exiting, or while walking to and from the bus lines?

Thanks!

I agree with you in hating the smoking policy at Disney. We stayed at the BWV in Jan. and we will be giving serious thought to staying off property the next time we go. We requested a first floor room and were put on the top floor. Quite the trek to a DSA and if I was alone with the grandkids would have to take them with me. Couldn't even enjoy watching the football playoffs in my room!!

Anyway, I said this before but I'll say it again. I don't think it will change the policy but I wish all the smokers here would write to Disney and tell them their feelings on the non-smoking policy. After all, they changed to non-smoking because of complaints from non-smokers, maybe they can offer balcony smoking in a few rooms or an entire floor of each resort. I wrote and hope everyone else will too.

We, too, were at the BWV and used the smoking areas in the morning; usually either the one by the "croquette court" or the or the one that's kinda off in a little courtyard by an entrance to the resort nearest to the entrance by the health club.. only once in ten days did I meet one other person either place smoking; and it was during a busy time. Neither place has protection from the rain..only the little courtyard has one bench.
To escape the rain late one night I went over to the porch of Community Hall.. ahh..rocker; roof.. 'course it still makes me feel like I'm being banished; but I'm there I am "being a rule follower." But comfortable? No.. why? Well, along comes two guys on the walking path..right in front of me..who are having a rather heated argument..not physical..but verbal.. and they stop..and I'm rather apprehensive..it's late..no one is around but these two that it's obvious they'd been drinking and as their argument esculatated I was very aprehensive.
I s'pose along with rain; lightening, walks to DSA, having to "schedule" smoke breaks; we also have to also take into consideration who else might be out there.
We never thought we'd want to stay offsite again..but the Disney resorts just aren't feeling very welcoming anymore to us.

Can anyone tell me how close the nearest DSA is to the Toy Story building at ASMovies? I've looked at the map, but I'd love someone who's actually been there to let me know how far away it is. There are 3 smokers in our group of 12, so I'd like to be able to let everyone know where the DSA is.

Thanks so much! :flower3:

All, what a great thread. We are staying at the CSR in April and I am so excited :rotfl2: Last year we stayed at the CBR in May 2007. Both DH and myself are smokers but this was before the new DW smoking policy. We have two children ages 5 & 4 and we want to be able to stay in a location that is close to a DSA. We like to relax with a soda or coffee at the end of the day when the kids are sleeping and be able to have a smoke or two. last yr, we went on our balacony at CBR and it was great. Both DH and I are very considerate smokers. What I am looking for is a room location that is close to a DSA where we can have a smoke but not be far from the room. We both smoke when we wake up. Any suggestions? I checked out the CSR maps and saw where the DSA's are but depending on where you are located in the building it could be quite a walk. Also, has anyone smoked outside on the balcony at CSR? Do they enforce the policy very strictly on CSR?

Any guidance would be helpful. I would like to request a room location in the Cabanas but not sure which one would work best for having small children, parents as smokers and being close to the bus stop :wizard:

Again, Not smoking in the room: No problem. If I didn't have a balcony room, its Florida! At the Caribean or any All Star resorts, its easy to step outside and smoke.

Just thought I would let you know that you can't just walk outside your room and smoke at ANY DW resort. We stayed at CB our last trip and I had to walk to the courtyard each time I wanted a smoke. Now...if you request a courtyard room that has a smoking area (and they actually care and give it to you) you can just step outside, go a few feet and you're in the clear. However, if they book non-smokers in the courtyard area and they have to walk through the cloud each time the enter or exit their rooms, you sometimes get a look or two.

Thanks so much for the info on 4seasons. Please let us know if you hear anything more.

Thanks for the input. I want to request a room right outside the DSA's so I can just grab a quick smoke and relax at night when the little one's are alseep and not have to walk far to do so.

I was thinking the same thing that if they put non smokers in rooms right by the DSA and they walk out into a cloud of smoke, you know the complaints are going to start up again. It stinks. We stayed at CBR last May and we smoked on our balcony. It was great and we are considerate smokers. The entire time we were there, while we were out smoking, we never had anyone pass by and if they did, I wouldn't have blown smoke around.

I would assume they are being pretty strict on this rule so trying to sneak a smoke probably wouldn't work. I read they are fining $250.00.

Perhaps somebody could PM me with this information because I don't want to stray from the boards primary topic.

Are there any maps that have a list of the DSA's in the Parks themselves?

The places at Disneyland in Cali were actually very convenient - if I wanted to smoke (which happened twice over the full day) I would go to a little stand where people were selling something and ask them where the closest one was - usually not more than a 30 second walk away - but I know the Florida parks are much bigger!

Again - if you want to PM me that would be great - or if there is just a link to post to maps that would be cool too.

Thanks

~Patrick

Here is a link to the park maps: http://www.wdwinfo.com/maps/index.htm

When you look at the parks you will see the DSA's on the map, they're designated with a a lit cigarette in a circle. Most of the DSA's are a little "hidden" in the parks, but they're great to get away from the hustle & bustle and they are all over the place if you know where to look. :goodvibes

We're going to be staying for the first time at AKV in August and I was wondering if anyone knows the best rooms to ask for that are close to a DSA. By looking at the map there are only 3 ?!? and none of them seem especially close to rooms.

Any advice on room numbers/locations? We're in a one bedroom villa savanna view, and really really like that first cig/coffee in the morning!

TIA

My husband smokes ALL THE TIME. Is he going to be able to walk around the parks with a cigarette in his mouth? What if we have one of those electric air purifier machines that pulls in cigarette smoke if he could get away with an occasional cigarette in the pop century, or does pop century have a place to smoke?

I really want to plan a trip so bad, but with him smoking like he does, it may ruin everything for me. :headache:

No, your husband will not be able to walk around the parks with a cigarette in his mouth. Both the parks and the resorts have designated smoking areas and he is allowed to smoke in those areas only. I am a smoker also, but I find that I am so busy while at Disney that I smoke very little and when I do, the smoking areas are very convenient - they are marked on the maps but you can just ask a CM and they will direct you to the nearest smoking area.

The DSAs in the parks are very convenient and some are tucked out of the way for a nice quiet smoke. They are clearly marked on all park maps. All it takes is a look at the map before you begin your day. As far as the resorts' DSAs, they are clearly marked too.

Since this policy has been in place for awhile -

I was wondering if anyone here has personally
been charged the "room recovery fee" for smoking on their balcony.

And I do mean personally been charged -your room, while you were staying there or upon checkout - not "I heard someone was", or, "A CM told me that____" .

If you have been personally charged the fee, would you please share the circumstances? The method of approach by cast, resort, cash customer vs dvc, etc..

TIA

Exellent question......and a bump too :goodvibes

hubby and I are smokers.
PLEASE. PLEASE, PLEASE!!! do NOT let him walk around the parks with a cig in his mouth!!!!!! It will only ruin it for the rest of us! there are actually people who want to do away with smoking TOTALLY in the parks! and those that don't obey the rules will only ruin it for the rest of us, who stick to our DSA's.
(just like those who insist on leaving their butts on the ground, instead of in the conveniently located ashtrays)
(It sounds lke you don't realize there are designated smoking areas in the parks, AND at the resorts) many are quite nice.
pop century has many DSA's . the worst location for a smoker is the 70's section. but the 80's has one, the 60's and the 50's. I suggest the 50's., ask for a room near the lake. there are also DSA's along the walkway , along the lake. there is one near the 50's building where the ducks congregate. we had a lot of fun smoking and feeding the ducks!

I agree with pp ! I did not lwave 1 butt on the ground I made sure every one was disposed of correctly!!I can't say saw anyone walking around smokin' But I confess a couple of times when I couldn't find a DSA I snuck off somewhere , but stiill no butts left!! I do think they need to sign them better though!!
