I have been beading this minnie outline and I was thinking of filling it in but it might be too heavy. I dont really like how wonky the ear is, and DH just dosnt like it at all :confused3 Madi likes it and so does Katie.

That came out really cute. I love the beading for the mickey head! And the back pic is too cute. That is something my dd would want me to do!

I made another outfit and did add the ruffles:flower3: but I have this nagging feelings in the back of my head...

I made a headband to go with it but may be too big, It has elastic so maybe I can re do it ---can somebody give me the measures for a little girls head? this is for Noah's sister (she is 8yrs)

Linette

I like the ruffles. My dd would have worn that wen she was 8. She might not now, but she is almost 14! She might wear it to Disney! I love the outfits!

Sorry about the bra. I see the back needs to come up some! Again, this is the stage to make adjustments so please help me out to fix this up.

I have no advice...still learning myself, but I needed to tell you that you did a great job! Designing your own dress! WOW! Can't wait to see your finished one!

Quilts are just sooo cool!!!!

Congrats! 2 hours! WOW! I went 32 hours with my first and still never had her naturally! How big? Name? Share!

I have been a long time lurker on this thread. I just finished my first skirt tonight:cheer2: I have no where near the talent you all have but I thought I could give it a try. I decided to stick with a "simpler" item first. Our first trip is in May so I thought I could try a few things. Here is a skirt for dd 14 mo. for AK.

th_001.jpg

Great first skirt! It looks great! And welcome out of lurkdom.

CINDEE!

How do we pet the penguins? I assume it is some sort of tour you can take. I talked about going to Sea World this trip. Lin doesn't like it much but I LOVE it and of course Dallas LOVES the penguins and the kids area! Silly men just don't get how cool it is! Hmm, maybe someone could hook us up or just steal a penguin! LOL! That would make Dallas super duper happy!

BUT if we do I have to make new shirts! No trip to Sea World can be complete without cute matching shirts!

I'll have check out a trip to Memphis. Not sure how far it is from here, I know it is not that close, but not extremely far, I think more like going to disney from here. Oh, Lin doesn't like zoos either. Takes alot of convincing to get him to go to a zoo. I have never been to Atlanta's and when I took Dallas he wasn't with us. I think he agreed to Sea World last time because it has been so long since his last trip and he forgot it was mainly animals.

BUT, what I really sat down to ask whas how the heck do you get jibbitz in kids crocs! I got size 12/13 so it isn't like they are that small but I cannot for the life of me get one in! Dallas has always had Mickey crocs (which of course the fall right out of, even with their little disc now).

We took the backstage tour a few years ago and got to pet the penguins. It was so much fun! We also got to see Beluga whales and polar bears way up close.

Wendy, I love your rag quilt! The little squares with the bigger ones is so cute. It will fray more on the second washing, mine did!

I am running late and someone is on their way over so I have to do the hurry up tidy before they get here! I did want to tell everyone I finished my hippie jean tut and it's on my blog (click on the picture in my signature). I hope you guys like it!

Ok, here's what I just finished. I made it as a practice to get used to the pattern. I plan to use it to make Ava's Easter dress, this year. I got this beautiful brocade fabric to use, so I really want it to be perfect. No mistakes. That's why I'm practicing. This dress came out pretty cute, but it definitely has its imperfections. Not visible on camera, though, so I'll just keep it to myself where the imperfections lie :p

th_IMGP3974-1.jpg
So cute! I agree with what some one else saids it is an Annie Dress and it is a complement from me too because it is one of my fav movies!

I am making a dress today from an idea in my head. I wanted to know about how to put this together.

The back is 3 pieces with the center piece shirred 14 rows at the top. Do I shir the center back first or put the pieces together and then shir?

Let me know if a picture of my drawing would help.
I can't wait to see it! I bought the elastic thread to try shirring but I am askered!

I have been beading this minnie outline and I was thinking of filling it in but it might be too heavy. I dont really like how wonky the ear is, and DH just dosnt like it at all :confused3 Madi likes it and so does Katie.
th_minnieoutline001.jpg
That is GREAT! Great find too!

The last outfit that I posted I was not too sure about it as it looked like it needed more ... but when I was sewing the outfit on Sunday a friend of ours was in the house with his wife and two daughters, the older one is 9 yrs old , and as I was trying to decide what to do, I asked her to try it on, (big mistake!!) she wanted the outfit for her and I felt bad so I gave her to her, on the funny note I asked her what she thought about adding ruffles and she told me that no "cool" girl wears ruffles as they are for babies!!!!!!:confused3 :faint: :faint: :sad2:

I made another outfit and did add the ruffles:flower3: but I have this nagging feelings in the back of my head...

I made a headband to go with it but may be too big, It has elastic so maybe I can re do it ---can somebody give me the measures for a little girls head? this is for Noah's sister (she is 8yrs)

this is the outfit (easy two piece top!!!) with the added ruffles and the shirring

th_2008_02020016.jpg

OK...should I leave the ruffles or just take them out and add just a band???

as usual lots of pages behind that I have to go read!!!

Linette
LEAVE the RUFFLES! I asked Nikki who is 9 would she wear that and she said YES! Of course she wears ruffles and asks for them! Hey how are you really going to get twirl power with out them!!!!! :rotfl:
I made one of her best friends little sisters who is 2.5 a nightgown with ruffles and 2 of her friends saw it and now they want one and both are 9 so at least here ruffles are cool! Also if you check out a lot of the stores like Justice which is a HUGE (expensive too I might add) store around here for little girls everything is ruffled! So i say LET THERE BE RUFFLES!!!!!!!!!

Ok the kids have a late start ad Nikki is playing Disney's sing it so I need to go up stairs and clean the bathroom. I love my dd but she can't sing to save her life!:confused3
i will Finnish checking everything out when I drop them off at school!

Your little guy inspired me!!!

I think I want to try one with my 6yo neice Elizabeth - How did you start sewing with your little guy?

I was thinking I could control the pedal and keep it slow and she could guide the material????????

Have you ever tried using bandanas? I wonder if you trimmed the edges if they would fray????

Good morning. With my little guy I let him run a couple of seams by himself on some scrap so that I could see where he needed help first. Turns out he was pretty good with the foot pedal, so for the good projects I let him sit at the machine and run the foot pedal while I stood over him helping him guide the material. Also, I drew a chalk line for the large X's on the rag quilt squares for him to follow. Then when it was time to join them and we were dealing with a seam allowance I put a piece of coloured tape on the machine for him to follow along the edge to keep his seam straight.

For the first bit he would position his hands at the front of the machine and then run the machine till his hands got too far and then stop the machine and reposition his hands. He was getting really good, so I started doing other stuff close by (folding laundry) :laundy: Then I here the machine go and go and go, with no stopping. When he did stop, at the end of the square, he said to me " What???? I see you sew like that, and it seemed more efficient, so I tried it" :rotfl2: Turns out he did a pretty good job. They learn so fast.

I bet Dallas would love that!

Also, here is a little Vday outfit I made for DD4. I did not get any pics of her in it today and unfortunately she puked all over her outfit this afternoon. We had just gotten to ballet and she got really sick. :( She was unbelievable bummed and asked me if she could wear it again soon. I think I can :laundy: it and we will be all good!:thumbsup2

I did a triple layer skirt with an appliqued tee. I was so frustrated with my applique last night I took my machine in again. The repair guy said there was a lot of little things wrong. Last week they told me to use better thread. I am skeptical that everything is fine. I have a pretty intricate Jaq and Gus I am starting tonight so we will see.

Very pretty! :goodvibes

Oh, I have a quick question. What size squares do those of you use when you are making the fleece rag quilts? I stopped by Joanns today and they had a sale so I grabbed some. Thanks!
I use 8x8 but I think it just depends on the look you are going for... The sky is the limit!

I'll blame the weather! I hate this weather!!! I hate winter, I hate the cold and the wind and I'm SICK SICK SICK of the snow!!!
I am so with you!
Has anyone made the a line for an older girl? How do I find out the measurements for the sizes? Does it fit snug or roomy? TIA for anyone's help.
How old is the girl and what size is she normally?

Linette and all others who get ideas in your head and then try to bring them to life. I need help. I thought to make a sundress today from an idea. I know the sides must come in a bit and the back needs to be shirred down more, but why did the shirring come out so loose and weird on the top rows?

Is it because I didn't pull it tight enough onto the bobbin? Also, I messed up the facing when cutting out the first one. The I sewed the second one on to the wrong side but I left it.

I put the stitching in dk blue so I could see the mistakes more.

What do I need to do to fix this dress? Take in the sides, put in more shirring, but what else? Do you like the thin strap of the thick one?

I cut it out of a sheet sample we got at work last year and the fabric is very stiff. The bottom skirt part is a total of 6 pieces. Two big ones front and back and then two panels on each side front and back. The bodice is one piece and then the back. Easy on that.

Sorry about the bra. I see the back needs to come up some! Again, this is the stage to make adjustments so please help me out to fix this up.
Could you have cut the material too big? It looks like it is going to be great when it is done!

DD2 took her nap on me this afternoon and I wandered around online....
I found fabricworm.com and saw this set of fabrics that sooo reminds me of the "Be our guest" scene from Beauty and the Beast.
Thought I would share :)

Now I have that song stuck in my head ;)
It does fit that scene and YEs i have it in my head now too!

Quilts are just sooo cool!!!!

I got mine out of the dryer and put it right back in for another wash and dry - any tips for getting a great fray????

Here it is pre washing....
and then after 1 wash/dry....
th_100_0671.jpg
You did a fab job on it! Very wintery!

Oh, did I say fleece? Well, maybe I bought the wrong stuff....maybe I was a little confused when I heard fleece. I guess it was supposed to be flannel material and batting :sad2: . Maybe I am just getting mixed up. It isn't a thick blanket like fleece. It is a thin snuggle fabric, like baby receiving blanket material. I guess it is a flannel. Maybe I am getting my words mixed up......I am not sure if it would fray....I feel sheepish now...sorry about that...well, I have it now so I guess it's worth a shot. What's the worst that can happen?..... :rotfl:
Sounds liek flannel to me but you could use fleece. I saw a pattern for a fleece version on Joann.com.

Yes, that was Dallas! He LOVES penguins! He brought home this book from the library, about 40 pages with alot of words about the penguins as the San Francisco Zoo, we have read it now 3 nights in a row, the entire thing. He is just fascinated with them.

He knows SF is in CA so he wants to go there now. Why can't the Atlanta Zoo have penguins! :confused3 The little tiny ole Akron Zoo had the best display of them! The aquarium here has them but they aren't nearly as fun to watch as they are at zoos.
I need to get the to GA aquarium! I can't believe I haven't been yet! next time I go see my mom we have to take the kids. Last time we where their we went to the Atlanta Zoo and that is where Kyle got his fav stuffed animal Yellowie the monkey.
I bet Dallas would love that!

Hi Dis Family! So I am coming for some insight and inspiration! I am gonna whip something up quick for Georgia's birthday on Saturday!! Some of you know I broke my ankle the first of the year so I have been sittin on my bum since then. But I am gonna get out and get up and sew something. Maybe make me feel better. Since....... I broke my ankle we won't make our trip to Disneyland for The Peach's birthday!! I Know talk about heart break kid. Good goin mom right?! But hopefully for my birthday in May.

Anyway. Hope to keep checkin in Miss you all!
Sorry about your ankle and the trip:sad:

Thanks for the help with the dress. Right now the test is cut from a sample sheet. Very stiff.

It is big on top and I need to fix the shirring, but then it is not bad. Linette is going to help me with facing as I want it a different way than normal.

Wish me luck as I keep trying to make a dress from an idea.

I think a lot of us started as lurkers then turned into addicts :) It is very cute.

This triple layer skirt is really easy to make. There is an ebook YCMT but I did not use it this time. I just winged it.

My Waistband is 7 inches by 1.5 x waist measurement. Hannah's waist is 22 so her waistband is 33 inches. I fold the waist over so it ends up being 3 inches after seems and serging. Serge one long side of the waistband and the turn right sides together and sew to make a tube/circle.

I wanted the skirt to come to her knee. Keep in mind Hannah has very long legs so from waist to top of the knee is 15 inches. There are three layers to the skirt. Each layer is 90 inches long. To figure out how to long to make each layer you just do a little math.

Total length 15 inches - Waistband length 3 inches = 12 inches.

My bottom layer is 90" x 12"
My middle layer is 90" x 9"
My top layer is 90" x 6"

Sew each layer right sides together to make a circle or tube. Finish your hems however you like. I used binding tape. Then you place the layers one on top of the other. I serge the three layers together at the top to make gathering easier. Next gather the skirt. I used the gathering stitch on my machine but the zig zag over dental floss method is really good for this skirt.

A great trick to know how much to gather is this. . . Measure you waistband when it is flat. Mine was about 16 inches. So I knew that when I was gathering my skirt I needed to make it 16 inches (laying flat). Then I tie the bottom and the top thread together to lock in my gathers.

The waistband is not super tricky and ends up looking really nice. Take the waistband tube and place it over the skirt right sides together. The raw edge of the waistband should match up with the gathered edge of the skirt. Pin and sew in place.

1. Fold over the waistband to the inside of your skirt. You want to cover your seem. Pin in place and PRESS!!

2. Then top stitch 1/8th" from the top of the skirt. That gives it a very professional look.

3. I use 3/4" elastic so I next measure an inch from the top of the skirt. I sew a channel at the one inch mark leaving a three inch opening. Then I do the same for the bottom seem (where the waist and skirt meet). I top stitch along the seem closing all of the gathering underneath. I leave the same thee inch opening.

4. Then I insert my elastic, sew the elastic together and stitch close the openings.

5. Finally I top stitch across the elastic. I pull the elastic and sew down the center. It insures the elastic will not twist once the skirt is being worn.

Here are a couple pics. I will remember to take pics of the whole process next time.

Here is what the skirt looks like after you sew the waistband. Between step 1 and 2.

I adore that big wrap around deck on your home!!!

Yes, and I'll have marshmallows with mine.:cool1:

Oh thanks...I have to say that was the selling point for me! I have ALWAYS loved having a front porch...my grandparents had one on the house before my grandfather died in 1979. I LOVED that house, LOVED the porch....I admit I can spend all day out there! I just love sitting there or in my swing that DH put out in the tree...ugh...how southern can one person be!:lmao:

Yeah for snow for you!

Inspiration PLEASE

There is supposed to be a DVC event at Doorway to Dreams at the end of the month and of course the kids need a new outfit for it! Kyle can wear either his Buzz bowling shirt or his Cars one.
Nikki I have had this Hannah Montana applique idea in my head but i am not quit sure. I bought a back long sleeved shirt. I was debating possibly using the HM lettering in Pink and Purple and possibly do ing the guitar like some of h=you have done in this gold lame napkin material my mom gave me. Then either use rik rack for strings or a fancy stitch.
Does any one have any cool HM ideas they have used or could give me for this??? Post pictures if you would be so kind!
