I have a Brother SE-350. I think it is called the Enthusiast. If I remember correctly I paid $375 for it. It does embroidery as well as sews. I have had it going on a year now and (knock on wood) it hasn't given me any problems.

Can you use the Brother Disney cartridges on that? A friend wanted to get that one, but was told she couldn't use disney cartridges.

I have the Brother SE270D, which was $300 at Wal Mart, I think. I don't think they have it anymore.

Can you buy them like at Joann's? Or do you have to order them online?

I have a really STUPID question.

Can you burn an iron on? If so I think I did. I did an iron on and never even washed it- but is all cracking and peeling. I did not iron it on to a knit, but I ironed it onto muslin. (But I don't think that should matter should it?) What did I do wrong? :confused3

So, I assume you freehanded the eyelashes and smile? It looks really good. I think it turned out VERY cute!

Thanks again!! I do the little details by hand. The eyelashes, smile and little line above Minnie's nose on this one. I know some can outine and do these kinds of details on their machine, but I can't. I've tried and it turns out awful!

BTW - I was being sarcastic when I said applique was easy peasy! ;) It does take practice, the more you practice, hopefully the better you will get. And for some reason I find it easier NOT to go too slow. Not sure why but it works for me. ;)

Definately use the iron on stabilizer - I think you'll see a difference. And don't be afraid to guide the fabric a little - turn it, help it along a little. Someone once told me not to be afraid to rip out the stitches and start over too. If you use thread that is the same color as the fabric you are using, mistakes aren't as noticable.

I know you where I am just impatient and I want to be as good as you NOW! :rotfl2:
I was slowly guiding the fabric around the curves.. i just stink oh well! I did find some 4x4 appliques for my machine! LOL So i can maybe semi applique :rotfl:

Thanks so much for all the compliments!!

To answer a few questions!

My house is a disaster...because all I have done for a week is sew...sew...sew (and work, of course)! I am a little OCD (aren't we all??). With the new law coming up...I wanted to make sure I listed my stuff..prior to the deadline...a little motivator!

My DD (almost 5) really doesn't like to model :) She was actually driving me crazy that day!! LOL But bribery (?spelling?) will get you everywhere!! She loves the PARK!!!

I started the Valentines set before Christmas...but the rest I have been working on for a couple weeks, I think?? Maybe a bit longer.

I have had a couple orders to fill in there :) And yes...I work full time at my "day job"...LOL!

I am trying my hand at doing Custom's on :wizard: to help pay for our Disney Trip! It started last year and due to my Hubby loosing his job, we had to cancel our DL trip. Well, now we have a DW trip planned for Thanksgiving 2009...If I can just raise/make a little $$ to help pay for our trip...I'll be happy. I figure...if all else fails, my daughter has a ton of Custom's to wear & I have a fun hobby!! I have only had a handful or orders so far...??

So today...It's work & cleaning for me...you all know what your "studio"/sewing room looks like after that many sets!! I need to fold and organize!! oh...and the laundry!!

Hope you all have a great day!! And thanks for boosting my confidence!! I always doubt my own creations-like I am sure most of us do.

Please feel free to direct me if this has already been asked and answered.

I have been approved a purchase of a new machine. So, I am researching to try and get the best bang for my buck. My question is about the software for embroidery. What am I going to need for that? I would like to present my DH with a approx cost estimate that includes all of the extras I need to actually use my machine.

I would like to be able to digitize a logo or a picture. What am I going to need for that? Any accessories that are must haves?? I am thinking about the Brother Innovis 900d, but will look at other machines when I go into the store.

TIA!

Hey...just another update on my Granny...she was doing pretty good last night...full use of both arms, maybe a little weakness still in her left, but still she was using it. She is still talking in 3-4 words at a time, but she is trying and is of course smiling the entire time! The speech therapist said this morning that she was able to swallow, which is good. They said it was considered like a mini stroke, so I think, not sure, that she should recover good. Right now, it's just one day at a time.

thanks again for all the prayers....I must sleep now...LONG night!

Can you guys tell me where you get your teflon pressing sheets?
I've called Hancock fabrics, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and Wal Mart and most of them had no clue what I was talking about, but went and looked and said they don't have it.
I really don't want to order one online. I want it now! :snooty:
I have my applique all cut out and ready to go. :(

Got mine at JoAnne's just a few days ago, it was on the endcap of the notions section. $7.99

I know someone replied to your question, but I just wanted to say that I love piping. I put it on just about everything I sew. You can get the cording in different sizes. I use some that is really tiny. I think it might be 1/16 of an inch. It is smaller than the one you get at Hancocks and Joanns. I get it from an heirloom shop. It is really cheap too. It's 10 cents a yard.
I think it really adds alot to collars. It is kind of difficult to get used to sewing it in. Some people use a pintuck foot. I use a zipper foot because I find it is easier to see. You make the piping by cutting bias strips, folding it in half, and then sandwiching the cording in the fold of the fabric. You can then sew it down to keep it in place. Don't sew right close to the piping but give yourself a little room to get another row of stitching in. Then you put your collar pieces right sides together with the bias piping in between the two pieces. You put the bias in the direction to where when you flip the collar out it will be sticking out from the collar. You want to sew it as close to the cording as you can without hitting the cording. Zipper foot works great for that. You can also buy mini piping and piping in various colors. I don't like that alot because the colors seem to fade alot, and I like to use the smaller cording. Pre-made piping is great for quick projects though.
Sorry I went on for so long. I'm just a piping/cording fanatic. I use whip stitch piping alot lately too which is a pre-made piping that you can get cut by the yard at alot of heirloom shops.
Here is a link to how to make your own piping.

And yes.. you can make the collar without the piping of course! It is a little tricky going around the curves. Just go slow if you decide to give it a try.
;)
Oh, and gingham piping is my favorite!!

I love piping too, especially the gingham. Makes the outfit a little more special and custom.

Thanks again!! I do the little details by hand. The eyelashes, smile and little line above Minnie's nose on this one. I know some can outine and do these kinds of details on their machine, but I can't. I've tried and it turns out awful!

When do you do the hand details? Is the HeatandBond Lite already attached? Is it already ironed on to the shirt? Your appliques are amazing. Thanks!

Glad to hear she is doing better, I'll keep her in our prayers.

So I finished the twirl skirt and it turned out really cute. Only problem, DD2 won't wear it, says "too scary." Little rat, she chose the fabric! She and DD9 wanted pirate skirts to wear during the day on pirate day on our cruise. They'll have more piratey costumes for the actual pirate dinner/celebratoin. DD9 put the skirt on and loves it but needs to wear leggings under it. Still cute. I'm working on the peasant shirt now and charging my camera so I can take pics. pirate:

That is fabulous news!

Appiqued stuff takes LOTS & LOTS of practice!! I tried and tried and tried. :lmao: I found it was easier to learn how to use my embroidery machine than do it by hand. I had no problems cutting it out, getting it on the fabric, etc, just going around the designs.

Am I the only dork who thought when you cut out the easy fit pattern that you just cute the upper & lower pieces?? I didn't know it was a custom pattern until about 4 pair later!

thousandsofbolts.com- nope, never heard of them, but there are so many fabric places out there, if you found great prices, go for it. Order 1 item if you are worried, what would you lose? $10? For a few yards.....

Easy Fit Pants made into shorts- yup, looks totally odd when you are sewing. Heres a pic of mine on my little one- wearing about size 12/18 months then.
As you can see, i added a cuff, but you could go shorter.

I think I will order from them this weekend. I like the manufactures of the fabric, so it should be good. Great prices!

The shorts turned out so cute!!

Ok here is my disastrous applique! I am going slow I actually even set my machine for the slow mode so I am not tempted to go fast and it is still awful! UGH! Any extra tip any one can give especially around corners?
I may have to get busy learning to digitize so I can make the pictures I want! UGH!!!!!!!!

I am not sure why Kyle can't just pose nicely he has to ham it up and make faces every time! :confused3

I just realized I forgot to cut a string off. Oh well.

Can you tell I am not happy with it! The pants are of course Carla's easy Fit! I like how they came out!

I think its great for your first attempt! It just takes so much practice! If you have an embroidery machine, use it! :rotfl2:

OMG, all that stuff would take me at least a year to make. :rotfl2:
Love everything.

Yeah, I am another one who takes forever to sew!

Yes I used tear away non iron on though because my mom brought the wrong one and I haven't gotten the iron on kind yet.

Until you can get cut away stabilizer, try using coffee filters.

Leslie- This is really well said. Thank you.

I do hope the law is "explained" by the govt. so that boutique designers have a clearer understanding of what is going on. Leslie was one of the people that came to mind when I first posted about Boutique Felony. Jessica, Lori, Jeanne were a few other regular Disers that I was thinking of!

I haven't listed anything on ebay in a couple of years, but even I was thinking of listing on the Boutique Felony this week!

Even with the embroidery machine, you can rip out the stitches and start over! My DH bought me a huge magnifying glass that attaches to the table so I could see when doing applique by hand. It also helped with ripping out stitches!

You appliques are amazing and I think you are just as amazing that you can do it by hand. I spent a whole summer trying over & over to do it by hand. It was easier to learn how do use the scary machine!

Silly little one! That is funny! But I am sure that when you get there, she will be happy to wear it!

One more I forgot to add...What do you think?? My DD wanted a set with Kitties...I love this fabric! It's so funky!!

I think it looks great and you are so brave to even try applique! And I agree, no one is going to be close enough to your son's tummy to check out the stitching (and if they are, what the heck!!).

Hello my name is Kristie and I am a fabric addict!

I ran over to Hancock's at lunch today to get cord to make the piping in my outfit. $58 later I walked out of Hancock's with cord, 4 new fabrics, new needles for my machine and some hand needles too (I seem to have lost all hand needles except really big ones and It was very hard to sew a button with a super large needle). The bad thing is I don't have a plan for any of the fabric right now, I just really liked it. Is there a fabric lovers annoymous I could join? (And I know most of you can understand my just wanting the fabric. I'll figure out something to do with it eventually thought process)
