Love it! Soo cute. Great job, I love the idea of them going to BBB in the working outfits... so fun!

Chef Hat Makers,,,,

I am making a chef hat for a little boy with Down Syndrome that I see at work and I need to make sure the cuff part goes the right direction!! How can I tell what way will be up - lol - I 've only made one, and it didnt matter with that fabric.....i know one side has notches in it - so does the notched side go up or down or?????:confused3 !

I hope I have this right :)
The notches will be up....
This is how I did it, I think.... good luck!

Teresa- Can you believe the babes is 2 1/2 now. She was 11 months when I started to sew. It is funny because Brett and I were talking last week and he said it would cost me less for you to buy them clothes for the trip. I finally confessed that I spent close to $800 on clothes for our first trip. Now it took like six months to do but still. Everything was from Gymboree with matching hair accessories. (My how the bows have grown now! LOL) He told me to keep sewing. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Here my baby from our first trip June 2007. This was our CRT morning.

Just because this is my all time favorite Disney picture ever. Can you imagine the wonder that was going through her little mind?

Look how little she was!!!!

Viking Sewing Machines- I killed three cheap Singers. The first I had for like ten years and barely used. After I found this thread I bought one from Target. I killed it. Then a few months later the replacement I killed. My DH told me to buy a good sewing machine. I bought the Viking Sapphire 830. I also recently confessed how much it cost! He thought I was kidding.:confused3
Anyway, it is wonderful and sews like a dream. They have a fantastic warranty, good service and lots of accessories. I bought the floor model so I saved a couple hundred dollars. Overall I am beyond pleased. I have bought three feet so far. I bought the clear applique foot. I think that is essential to have. I also bought a piping foot. I put piping on just about everything. It is so super easy! They were between $20-$30. The ruffler was $80. I am not sure what the difference is between my Viking and my Mom's early 80's ruffler. I do know as of two weeks ago I have ruffled 180 yards of fabric just for our trip. (Yes, I counted. LOL) I know it is more now. LOL The Viking is great. It is sturdy and strong. IMO it was worth the money.

I'm gonna chime in with sewing machine advice too. I had a "New Home" machine that I had for YEARS! When I found this thread, I pulled the thing out, dusted it off and started sewing. In a few months, I felt the need to "move up" to a machine with more stitches. I bought a Brother csi6000. In just a few months, I had to take the thing to my machine shop because it was off time. It cost me $100 to fix. The machine only cost $170 to begin with! Within just a few months later, it was messed up again. The machine was just not meant to do the amount of sewing that I was doing on it. When it went out of time the second time, I told my DH that there was no sense in spending another $100 to fix it. It was time to buy a good, quality machine. I went to the dealer in my city, and came home with a Baby Lock Decorator's Choice. I LOVE that machine! It is very heavy duty, and it stitches through layers and layers of ruffles like a hot knife through butter! If you think that there is any chance that you will continue in this hobby for any amount of time - TAKE THE PLUNGE! Buy a good machine!

:sad2: I feel like a slacker I do not have any outfits planned for our Trip in March, We just bought new spring clothes for the girls and they chose to match, Match isnt the best way to describe them they are Identical!! So I guess no :scared: custom's this trip. :rotfl: Unless you count the Tees with Minnie's outline in black beading.

I tested the Babylock's at my dealer and fell in love    I really really really really want the Ellure Plus See it here
I am so glad you like yours! They do seem very sturdy and have lots of useful features!

I've looked at that machine, but never tried it out. I bet it's great! The only reason I didn't go for that particular machine was that I have an embroidery/sew machine that I use only for embroidery. I like to be able to have my embroidery machine running at the same time that I'm sewing. For that reason, it didn't even occur to me to check out a combo. How big does the multi-hoop stitch? That is a GREAT option!

This is my first frankenpattern and I am not sure if this will work. It seems easier than I think that it is, which is where I will run into trouble
My DD3 wants a Wendy custom for our DL trip. I have a regency pattern that is extremely detailed and I would like something simplier. I found this pajama pattern that seems pretty close to what I want to do. I am thinking of making the top (view c in the second photo) from the pajama set but altering the length to make it a gown length. I would also like to change the sleeve style slightly by placing a wider elastic at the end (no ruffle at the end) to give more room for poof in the sleeve. I may also do a Daisy Kingdom style poof insert inside the sleeve if it won't poof on its own. What do you think? I could really use some advice.

WHat about using the portrait peasant pattern instead? I am sure I have seen some Wendy customs that used it. Maybe someone will post one...

I FINALLY made it over. And everytime I got ready to post, there was more and more pages to read! You girls are way to chatty! I am finally caught up, and I have absolutely loved everything that has been posted. I don't have any sewing to show (I am mad at my fabric store for having zero selection so I am not in the mood to sew), but I made a hair bow holder today. I was so much fun to paint!

I second the opinion of using the Portrait Peasant pattern. It is much easier,

I like your bow holder. I keep saying that I am going to make one for Jenna but I never do.

OMG Aimee, I don't know where to start. Everything looks amazing and I can't believe how much the girls have grown!! When did Sophee get so big and look at all that hair!!!! You know how much I love coordinating sets and these are perfect. It's hard to pick a favorite they are all just too cute.

Hi Everyone,

Love the bow holder - so cute!!
Hmmm Frankenpatterns are always so interesting!! Ive never tried doing that before.....

Here is Hannah's round neck dress to match Elizabeths Rumba....kinda wonky, but I hope will do - still need to do buttons...Im thinking little hearts?
100_0615.jpg

okay - her is a picture of my stitches on my serger - today it seemed a bit better!! ugh - I have yellow and orange thread in their proper places, and then white in the green space...Im using 3 threads right now...sorry its not terribly clear, but I think you can see the looseness....
100_0616.jpg

Now - all of the sudden, my good "ol dependable kennmore decides to start acting up!!!:confused3 do you think the bottom tension is too much? I dont have the manual for this, so I know the little screw in the bobbin adjusts it, but which way do I turn it? The bottom stitching is loose and uneven and sometimes crooked, and the top is very tight - sometimes almost like a line with little loops from the bottom coming over it???I know this is weird, but also it isnt as smooth - like i can almost hear the needle breaking through the fabric???? Whats Wrong??? :confused3
100_0617.jpg

100_0619.jpg

And this is my first try with working with knit - its the thermal "waffle" style - I made these for Eliz - I went down a size in the easy fit pants, but still did the length she needs in the size 7....do you think it will work for her?? I didnt want them to be too stretchy and baggie.....??
100_0614.jpg

I hate it when I get behind, but I love everything that has been posted! They are all wonderful, so many lucky kiddos out there to have all of these beautiful outfits!

Please don't be upset if I take out pictures, I know I am way over my limit in this huge multi-quote!

I just got through all 66 pages! I am not even going back to the old thread. We had a nasty nasty computer virus. We went out our computer for 38 days. I have been really busy sewing for out upcoming trip. My older DD did an impromptu photo shoot. She is missing all of her bows, cute shoes and bling but her is a sneak peak of some outfits. Jennwdw is making some really cute new bows for us. I cannot wait to get them. Bowmail is always the best.

Jeanne- As long as you send her back safely I have a Stepsister for you. :)

My DD4 picked Anastasia and DD2 is Drizella.

Here is the Evil Queen and DD2 is Ursula.

Here is Piglet and DD2 is Pooh. The pics are a little dark but you can see the pink piglet.

This is for Chef Mickey's. The babes dress has a red halter with a black Mickey yo yo.

This is the Cruella dress to match my DD2 little 101 puppy set. I am not sold on this one but DD4 loves it so that is what matters.

I still have a lot more to share- Brier Rose, Working Girl Cindy, Incredibles, Donald and Daisy, Pocahontas, Pop Century and a Minnie pettiskirt set.

Aimee, these are all fantastic! I love the pooh and piglet outfits for your girls, they are adorable! The evil "queens" are fantastic too!

Here are her Directions:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2048367
I made these yesterday using her instructions! I have never thought myself a bow maker, so I am pretty pleased with the end result!
this is the first, and it is HUGE! A little too big actually. I think I will give this one away.

RAOK!
The first person who can PM with the names of 2 of my kids can have this bow for free!! It is about 5" across.
Here are the smaller ones I made to go with the first outfits I made for our next trip (pics of those to come later!)

Anyway, moral of the story is, that they were excellent instructions, and if I can do it anyone can. :rotfl:

Wow! Your bows turned out fantastic! I keep thinking I need to learn how to make them instead of buying them but I never seem to get around to it!

I usually use my presser foot as my guide too. Some times I measure from my needle to here I want my seam to be and then I just use a fine point permanant marker and draw a line on my machine. A tip that was just share with me from one of the ladies at the Babylock store: She takes a stack of post it notes and sticks it at the measurment she wants. Then she just runs her fabric against the stack using it as a guide. The sticky won't hurt your machine and when it won't stick anymore then you just peel of the bottom one and use a new one.:thumbsup2

I love this post it note trick, that's a great idea!

This is VERY helpful! I'd never heard the new clothes and new shoes thing. I'll have to start that tradition as well. We seem to eat a lot of noodles too. It's just become such a part of our life that I didn't even think to mention it. I didn't realize the meaning of whole fish and whole chicken either. I'll have to keep that in mind! Thanks so much!

My knowledge of Chinese New Year comes from that really annoying show that my oldest (Grace now 5) used to love Caillou. It was her favorite forever! And he whines and whines and whines. Anyway, I remember them saying when they celebrated that they ate the long noodles and they had to clean their house :confused3 . I really think P.F. Chang's sounds like a good idea to me! Anything but cleaning my house!

Why did they move the banana???   I love it when I'm right!!!

This drives me nuts too, moving the bananas. I get used to them being in a certain space and then they disappear on me. Why?

First off here are a couple new things . . .

DD2 as Working Girl Cindy and DD4as Briar Rose-

They are wearing these to the BBB before their princess transformation. I think they turned out pretty cute. :)

The Incredible are the coolest in our house these days. DD4 practices doing splits over top chairs like Elastigirl. They both love Violet. I used cheap fabric from Walmart for these and I wish I did not. I had more problems making this dress than any other. Go figure????

I LOVE the idea of having one outfit for before BBB and a different one for after. That is so clever!

And I am seconding the cheap fabric thing from Walmart. Most of the fabric I've bought from there has been okay, especially the Disney fabrics but for our trip this fall I bought some ginghams in like 3 different colors and HATED them. I actually threw a bunch of it away. It kept fraying and puckering and sometimes like it had a "run" in it like a pair of panty hose. Yuck. It made sewing miserable!

Aimee, I tried to talk Megan into Briar Rose's dress this year and she said no! I will have to show her all the cuteness she is missing. Great job on all of them, they are all beautiful.

Yesterday I was feeling a little better so I made a rag quilt for my neighbor who just had a baby. It went together so much faster than the first one I made! Once you know what you are doing, they just fly. I hope she doesn't mind the pink, it's for a boy, but that's the flannel I had on hand.

That is so thoughtful of you Steph! I'm sure your neighbor will love it.

Teresa you are a hoot!

Okay well its my nap time, but I have this one story to share.
I stopped in a fabric store to see if I could buy a ruffler foot. Megan was with me (keep in mind she is 2). Now these people know me somewhat, meaning I have taken a few classes i nthe past and they know I sew for her. This older lady looks at Megan and says, "well, she'll be too old for ruffles pretty soon"

WHAAAAT??? Are you kidding me? What planet does she live on? So a 3yr old is too old for ruffles? I just looked and her and said "Noooo, I dont think so"

cant believe a ruffler foot is going to cost me $30! Is it worth it? I do them by hand now

NO, she is not too old for ruffles. My five year old loves them still and so does my 3 year old and well, Lilly is only 6 months and she doesn't get a choice so she has them too!

240.jpg

O.K. I hope this works. It is my first try at posting a picture and believe me when I say that I am computer challenged.:rotfl: Anyway here is my version of the Jolly Holiday Dress.

Fantastic job! These Jolly Holiday dresses are so cute! But they look so difficult and detailed!

Wow, that's beautiful. I want to say Hi!! I am new here and now subscribed. I also made a Jolly Holiday Dress for my daughter for Halloween 2007. She wore it to Disney in Feb. 2008 and had an AMAZING and magical time. I had so many people stopping me asking me where they could get one. People also asked my DD for autographs and pictures. She was a little celebrity. Not to mention that she be-friended her favorite character Mary Poppins!

If anyone here works for Disney My DD's story was in volume 38, number 9, April 24-May 7, 2008 edition of Eyes & Ears (Disney's employees magazine). It was called "Mary's Biggest Little Fan" and featured her name, picture with Mary Poppins and a Thank you letter that I wrote to all of the wonderful castmembers who made our trip so special.

I will also try to post pictures.

They are of my daughter last week in the dress. (She is so cute! She acts just like Mary Poppins when she is in the dress, as you can see!) It's showing some wear (especially the hat!) and is much smaller in her now but you get the idea. I didn't have a pattern and I made it from just looking at the photos of Mary in Disnay the year before. I tried to make it as accurate as possible. I hope you all enjoy the pics.

Oh, and I love the Aurora dress that was just posted. Just beautiful. You are all so talented!

Wow, it sounds like she had a fantastic experience and her dress is beautiful!

Teresa- Can you believe the babes is 2 1/2 now. She was 11 months when I started to sew. My husband figures the sewing thing has cost him big time, kind of like your Gymbo bill! In his mind none of this is justified and he just does it to keep me placated and happy!

I am on my second brother machine. I hope this one lasts longer than a year! Since I don't sew that much it doesn't seem like that is too much to ask!

I'm gonna chime in with sewing machine advice too. I had a "New Home" machine that I had for YEARS! When I found this thread, I pulled the thing out, dusted it off and started sewing. Sounds like what happened to me! So really, how much should a good machine cost? I haven't ever really priced one, just curious. And praying that my Brother doesn't die!

I'm gonna suggest the portrait peasant as well. I believe that pattern can be turned to anything in the world! It's simple, and very cute.

This isn't my creation - I pulled it from the Disboutique photobucket account. It is a Wendy portrait peasant dress. Thought I'd post it so you could get an idea.

I love that and need some for my daughter. How hard were they to make?

It was super easy! I bought the wooden plaque and letter from Michaels, and then just painted them, glued the "T" on the plaque and hot glued/stapled the ribbon on. The hardest part was painting that darn ladybug! It took like 4 coats to finally cover the pencil marks.

That's very cute.

I tested the Babylock's at my dealer and fell in love    I really really really really want the Ellure Plus See it here
I am so glad you like yours! They do seem very sturdy and have lots of useful features!

I can't wait until my old cheap machine breaks so I can get a really nice one. I won't be able to justify it to DH until then, though. Love this machine ... oh the possibilities...

Ok, I finally made something for my boy. I made this fleece robe, and I used Carla's Easy Fit Pants for the pants. It was next to impossible to get him to hold still long enough to take some pictures:

IMGP3892.jpg
IMGP3890.jpg

IMGP3895.jpg
IMGP3896.jpg

The pants went together super fast. Only hitch was I forgot to add the cuff before sewing the pants together. I had to add the cuffs afterwards, which was fine, but it would have been much easier to do it first like you're supposed to.

Teresa this is the dress that Ariel wears in Ariel's Grotto restaurant in California Aventure (Disneyland's other park) and at the Princess Fantasy Fair in DL.
Sierra REALLY wanted this dress, so I kinda had to Frankenpattern it. I didn't get the color quite right, but it's as close as I could find, especially since it was purchased online and the color swatch wasn't great :) . We did, however, match the hairbow shell.

It is so pretty Darla, I just love it!!!

I finally made some crayon roll-ups. Twistable crayons for the littles and twistable colored pencils for the bigs. I need to buy one more pack of crayons. They were easier than I thought considering I had to adjust measurements for different sized stuff.

th_DSCN3572-1.jpg

WOO HOO!!! Someday I will make some of these. The kids keep begging me for them!

Teresa here are a few pictures of Ariels green dress, try to ignore my children mobbing her.

Very frightening clown.

I have a Viking too. It's pretty old, but it is still a fantastic machine! Our most wonderful cousin is letting me borrow it indefinetly. Like the embroidery machine she let Heather borrow. Everyone needs a cousin like ours! :goodvibes It came with a bunch of feet and my cousin gave me some more when she let Heather "borrow" the embroidery machine. I had no idea how much they cost!!! I better be more careful! I've been wanting to try piping.

Hmm, looking at the picture, it looks to me that the orange is too lose and the white is too tight? Are you absolutely sure that it is threaded correctly?

On your regular machine, on mine, you turn the screw to the right to tighten. Only do a little bit at a time. Does your bobbin holder come out, or is it a drop in? If it comes out, you can test the tension by taking the bobbin holder out and holding onto a bit of the string from the bobbin. Let the bobbin and case dangle and jerk on it just a little bit (think yo-yo) it should only go down about an inch. If it goes too far, tighten it up a bit.
And praying that my Brother doesn't die!

This statement caught me off guard and I had to go back and re-read! You scared me for a minute!

The pants went together super fast. Only hitch was I forgot to add the cuff before sewing the pants together. I had to add the cuffs afterwards, which was fine, but it would have been much easier to do it first like you're supposed to.

That is TOO cute!!!

OMG Aimee, I don't know where to start. Everything looks amazing and I can't believe how much the girls have grown!! When did Sophee get so big and look at all that hair!!!! You know how much I love coordinating sets and these are perfect. It's hard to pick a favorite they are all just too cute.

Well, Thank you very much. That means a lot coming from a chick with great taste!! I know can you believe the hair. I cannot get it to stop growing. I will so miss the coordinating days. :(
