I'm on the fence about booking our first DVC stay. We're staying 13 nights in August for our anniversary. I have WL/CL booked the whole time, but I'm considering staying maybe 4 nights up front in a one bedroom villa at VWL. It would be during our actual anniversary and I thought it would be nice to have the separate bedroom and I could even do laundry in the room before we move over to WL.

How does this sound to everyone? I considered other villas and even suites, but we can't use our military discount for a suite and other than BLT, I can't get very excited about other villas. Any thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Any stay at WL/VWL would be wonderful!!! :goodvibes Have you ever stayed in a one bedroom villa before? If not it might spoil you for life!!! Is there a DVC purchase in your future????

Hi, KOOK :wave2:. Not sure I can help with your decision as the villas have never appealed to us as we really don't need the extra room with just 4 of us and I'm not one to cook or do laundry on vacation . But with that said, if you really wanted to try a villa, you would only be there for the first 4 nights and then you would have the next 9 nights at the Lodge in CL :cloud9:. If it were me, I would stay all 13 nights at WL CL. Good luck deciding as I know how hard it is to pick just one resort :sad2:.

Thanks everyone re: the buses to DTD. I think they're probably pretty bad no matter where you're staying. Our first day at WL will be right off the Dream, so we'll just see how everyone feels. We might go to MK for a bit, we might go to DTD. We might do absolutely nothing. I'm down with that. :)

I did a split stay with AKL and the Polynesian in December '10. DH and I had dinner at V&A for our anniversary and, when we arrived, discovered we were eating at the Chef's Table (I thought we were in the main dining room because I only received a time and date confirmation from IPO). It was pretty amazing. But I digress.

AKL was fantastic as usual. The Poly was just okay. The extra room was nice, but the Poly is very loud by comparison (I had to roll up a towel to bridge the gap between the floor and the bottom of the door). We stayed CL and I really prefer the AKL lounge to Poly. The food was very good, but there was an atmosphere that I didn't like. It just didn't seem as friendly or family oriented. More kids who made messes they didn't clean up, parents who didn't care, people piling ridiculous amounts of food on their plates. That sort of thing. At AKL, we've always chatted with other families in the lounge, and our kids strike up friendships with the other kids while watching TV at breakfast. Not so with the Poly. It could be that we were just all tired and cranky because it was the end of our trip. It didn't burn me out on the concept of a split stay, just staying CL at the Poly.

I'm considering a trip to Food and Wine fest in early October next year. If I go, I might do a split stay between WL and AKL. I don't know that WL is any closer to Epcot than AKL. But somehow travel by boat and monorail seems more like a ride than transportation.

Iced tea is available and is listed on the beverage station sign I posted above. The OFC lounge isn't getting rehabbed, but you should definitely make your reservation SOON::yes::

OMG I'm such an idiot! I guess I just looked at the soda logos!:rotfl:

It's always hard to advise someone else on something like this. The only "split" we ever did doesn't really count since it was only 1 night at AllStars followed by WL! But if I were to split, I would want to spend the second part of it in a place that is either larger, more luxurious, or where my heart is. I would have trouble going from having a larger space to a smaller one. But you love WL CL so much that it seems like that may make the change in space a non-issue. See? Its hard! Good luck! I hope others can give you better advice.

Keep the 13 nights CL!!!! C'mon!!!!

Hi everybody!! I have been reading this thread for the past few weeks. This thread gets me so excited for our return to the Wilderness Lodge at the end of August! Thanks to everybody for your posts. I cannot wait to see pics of the new rooms! :dance3::dance3::dance3: So exciting!!

ok I'm still reading through the thread, but we officially changed our resort today from POR to WL (Woods View) for our Sept. 2012 trip. We weren't 100% we would go in Feb. 2013, so I wanted to make sure I was able to stay at WL before we go back to BC in Dec. 2013. I am so excited and WL just fits so much better with our touring plan this time. We'll be 80% MK so it's just so much closer travel wise.

This will be our first time at WL and it will be me and DH. :woohoo::woohoo:

(yes, I know I need to update my siggy)

So that's one vote to keep the reservation as is:surfweb:

Well, it wasn't so much the extra room that was appealing, but having our own bedroom, since DD will be with us.

OMG I'm such an idiot! I guess I just looked at the soda logos!:rotfl:
You are NOT an idiot:hug:. It was a very easy thing to do.

The CL amenities would definitely make up for having 350 SF instead of 725 SF. Wow - it just hit me that those one bedrooms are twice as large. If they only had CL access like the Jambo one bedrooms at AKL.

Keep the 13 nights CL!!!! C'mon!!!!
Okeydokey, that's another vote to keep things as is popcorn::

Hi, GG!

No, we've never stayed DVC, and no, we definitely don't want to ever purchase DVC or points. We use the military 40% room-only discount (and we can even add the DDP, if we wanted to) for all WDW Resort rooms, except suites, so that's a better savings for us.

You know, KOOK, I'd be really interested to hear what you think of WLV, because I think we have similar travel perspectives. We've also toyed with a DVC stay, because we'd love to have the separate space for us & our kid, but never commit because I'm afraid we'd miss the service & convenience of CL. (And, like you, I just can't bring myself to pony up the cash to book a CL suite without a discount.) Sooooo...I think you should try a night at WLV, just for me. :lmao:

If you try the Villas for 4 ngts, it would be nice to add to your Lodge experience. I like the idea! You know I love the Villas...beautiful wide halls. Although not a lot of what might be considered good views, you could request a pool view, upper floor and that would give the best chance of seeing some of the lake as well. Doing laundry would be a nice perk too...although it would not be half way through your trip, it might be enough so you wouldn't need a laundry day later.

My vote is to go for it, if for no other reason than to experience the VWL.:thumbsup2

p.s. Kook, my I borrow your Sunshine Tree poster, please? ;)

You took the words right out of my head and posted them here, bowbat:thumbsup2. That's exactly how I feel - worried we'll miss CL, but our own bedroom would be great for a while and we'd still be at WL with the theming we love and Sturdy Branches and FW would be even closer:laughing:. But then I feel a little silly doing a split stay at the same resort. And, you know I love CR and the BLT one bedrooms are about 100 SF bigger than VWL (but the SF price is the same) and the BLT one bedroom has an extra bathroom for DD. Which would you choose if you were also doing WL/CL?

I was hoping you'd chime in:goodvibes. I'm glad you like this idea. I know you really liked your VWL stay. Did you experience any noise issues in your villa? The view isn't so important since we'll (hopefully) have an inner courtyard view at WL. What do you think of BLT Vs. VWL (with a WL/CL split)?

If it were me, I'd go with BLT. I like their bright, open, modern look & seems like most of them have fantastic views. Both properties seem nice, though.

I agree about the buses to DTD being about the same at all of the resorts. Some are better than others, but none of them get you there quickly :sad2:.

Thanks for your comparison between AKL CL and Poly CL. We've never stayed CL at AKL, but I have heard so many rave reviews for it, very similar to yours ;). The Poly, on the other hand, has had more negative than positive reviews (again, very similar to your experience), which has had me second guessing myself every time I consider booking it. We love the Poly and my youngest DS wants to go back, so we are staying there after our cruise next June. Since I've always wanted to try Poly CL, I thought of just throwing caution to the wind and do it this time, but after reading your review, I'm hesitating again :headache:. I know all CLs have their good and bad days with CMs, people not cleaning up messes, kids running around grabbing food with their hands, etc, but some are better than others and the Poly (from what I've been reading), seems to be one of the worst on a regular basis, which makes me very nervous booking it :rolleyes1.

I guess I just looked at the soda logos!:rotfl:

Don't feel bad......I have overlooked things in a post many times ;).

The Lodge is a great place to return to :thumbsup2. You've come to the right place to wait as we are all waiting for new room pics :goodvibes.

You will love the WL . WL is in a great location for visiting MK.....we've never had any trouble with the buses, but we love taking the boat to MK :boat:. Have a great trip :yay:.

So that's one vote to keep the reservation as is:surfweb:

It might be nice to have a little separation for a few days. Since you're staying for 2 weeks, if you decide you don't like the villa, it's only for 4 nights followed by 9 glorious nights at the Lodge in CL to look forward to ::yes::. Whichever you decide, I'm sure you will be happy with it ;).

No, we've never stayed DVC, and no, we definitely don't want to ever purchase DVC or points. We use the military 40% room-only discount (and we can even add the DDP, if we wanted to) for all WDW Resort rooms, except suites, so that's a better savings for us.

We've looked into buying DVC a few times and every time we come to the same conclusion that it just isn't for us. We almost bought when they were selling AKV as it looked so beautiful, but after giving it some thought, it just wasn't for us. We have gotten great deals the last 10 years, so hopefully Disney won't do away with discounts altogether any time soon ;).

What do you think of BLT Vs. VWL (with a WL/CL split)?

I'm not bowbat, but I think BLT might be a good idea :). Like you said, since you love the CR, giving BLT a try might be nice before heading to the Lodge ::yes::.

First of all, I have found this thread very useful, but wondering if someone can clarify something for me.

We will be traveling with a 2 1/2 year old who may or may not be interested in the pack 'n play. We are staying in standard room with 2 queen beds. Are there bed rails available for the queen beds, and if so, how do you go about requesting them (once you arrive or call ahead and put on reservation)? Thanks!

You're so sweet.:goodvibes We were in a corner studio, half way around the rotunda, down a short hall - our Villa was right there...we had the housekeeping closet opposite our room and a long hall where there must have been families coming and going, but we never heard a sound. It was very peaceful. As you know, the balcony over looked trees and the side window the pool, so we could see a lot of Wishes at night and hear the EWP.

BLT vs VWL? VWL hands down! Very little, if anything, appeals to me about what I consider an incredibly ugly building that ruined the look of the CR. I won't go into the history and CR and why the North Wing never should have been demolished, but I am sure you know, and possibly agree anyway.:thumbsup2

I think it would be fun for you all to experience the 'other side" of the Lodge...and it can be considered research.;)

Keep us posted! :goodvibes

Bedrails are available. We just asked for them when we got there. :)

Have a great time!

As someone who often stayed in the north wing of CR, I understand where you are coming from. I will admit that the look of CR was forever altered (and not necessarily in the best way) by the addition of BLT. But it's here, and we can't change it, so I decided I had to let it go. But I have stayed at both BLT and VWL, and they are both great.

It depends a lot on the size villa you are looking at. The studios at VWL are larger than the studios at BLT, but my 1BR at BLT was larger than my 1BR at VWL. The one bedroom at BLT has a second full bathroom, which they do not have at VWL. Balcony size is consistent at BLT - every villa has the same size balcony because of how the building is designed. The balconies at VWL can vary -especially on the 1BR villas. I've had one small balcony (off the main room only), two small balconies (one off each living space), and one huge balcony that stretched from bedroom to living room. Of course, one theme may appeal to you more than the other. I find VWL to be very warm and cozy, and BLT to be bright and airy.

If someone was comparing studios, then VWL would win on space alone. But if they were looking at larger villas, then I would have to ask them whether the second bath and being able to walk to MK was more important than the possibility of a larger balcony and quieter surroundings. Also, BLT is typically more expensive then VWL, which is always a big thing to consider.
