We now enjoy a DVC close to home with the VGC. It's about an hour drive to Disneyland for us, and while we used to do day trips, we now do overnights.
Actually we book 2 nights at VGC so that we get one full day, and night in the villa. We now understand how other DVC members that live close to WDW, Hilton Head, and Vero Beach might use their membership.
We are staying next week at VGC for our 4rth stay, and plan to bring certain groceries for lunches, cocktails, and snacks that we always usually have at home. We'll have dinner in the park, or at DTD, or do room service when in a studio. When we book a 1 bedroom, one night we eat out, and another, we cook in room, and take home any leftovers.
It's the perfect getaway.
Who lives close to Vero, or Hilton Head, and WDW that do the same type of trips?

We live 15 minutes from Walt Disney World. We purchased our Old Key West membership 4 years before moving to Florida. Occasionally we book a night or 2 at the DVC resorts nearby just to have a mini vacation. We never eat in, always enjoying one of the restaurants at the resorts or parks.

We just moved to Kissimmee and plan to use our points for several weekend getaways, as a guest room when we need it (we rented a 1 br apt) and for Disney Cruises. We own 627 points and discussed selling one of our contracts, but with little or no mortgage left, we decieded to keep them all for now and see how it goes!

WE can only dream of it! I think it will probably be a hundred years or so before they put a DVC resort in the north woods of Minnesota so unless we're moving south any time in the next 20 years (maybe an option) it isn't happening. Nice for you guys who can, though!

We live about an hour away from WDW.

We purchased 13 years ago, and our longest stay has only been for 5 nights - and we've only done that twice!

Our average stay is 1-2 nights. We tend to bring friends/family with us quite often.

It's been wonderful.

There was some discussion in the midst of all the recent point reallocation threads regarding DVC's right to impose a "minimum stay requirement."

Honestly, if they ever did that, we'd likely have to sell. But for now, it works for us perfectly! Enjoy your membership!

Since the economy tanked we only go to WDW once a year now when we used to go twice a year. So we use those "second trip" points at VGC on short stays. We love the VGC so much we probably won't go back to our old vacation habits. In fact we are going next week for 2 nights to check out all the new construction at DCA, and "World Of Color" testing.
If we lived near Vero, or Hilton Head, I am sure we would be booking short stays there too!
