Our toilet is screwed up again....I know DD's sometimes use too much toilet paper.....but thought I got through to them. It is now not flushing "well"....it seems like it is going to overflow but just goes down slowly...very slow.

Anyway, I don't want a repeat from a couple weeks ago...Dh at 5am.....toilet overlflowing EVERYWHERE!!!....and it was not a nice kinda overflow either...if there really is such a thing.....

Anyway, I know I probably need it snaked...but I took a metal coat hanger and tried to push it in the thing....and it doesn't go anywhere....not even a few inches.......Do you think something more is in there????? Thanks....for any advice....I am going to leave DH a note in there for the morning just in case I can't get it to work right.

Do you have a plunger?

Boil a pan of water - pour it in the toilet - wait 5 minutes or so - and then try plunging it..

I tried plunging...but our toilet is kinda weird....it has kinda indentations....(hard to explain)...but it seems that the plunger doesn't get a good "suctions" cause it cant lay flush to the bowl.

Anyway, I am boiling a pot of water as we speak.....

You need to get an auger (spelling?). They sell them at places like home depot for around $30. Plumbers use them 1st to try. Its a long metal thing that you put in there and it goes a lot further than a coat hanger. :D It actually works pretty well and has saved us lots of overflows and plumber costs. Good luck.

I bet it's because it's so dang cold in Michigan! Didn't you say it was supposed to get down to 1 last night?

Maybe you need a high fiber diet ;)

Actually what Minnie824 said. Buy and auger at any home improvement store.

Be careful not to scartch the bowl.

You must have a water saver toliet like I have and a plunger is almost impossible to use on it. I did go but an auger (sp) in the hardware store and that works everytime. I find my tampons get stuck in there alot (sorry for being so graphic) but go but an auger (sp) bet you will have no more problems and will save money on a plumber. Good luck:D

I have used an auger on it about 8 years ago....and did scratch the crap (no pun intended;) ) out of it!!! BUT my point is...the coat hanger doesn't go "anywhere" at all when I try to push it in.

It is only 10 here now...I don't think the coldness would have anything to do with it?? Would it??

Gail.....it is the original toilet...1957...pink and all;) ....so I don't think it is a water saver one......There is somethings  that my DH flushes every now and then...wonder....and actually think that may be the problem.....Hate to have a plumber come out and pull out something embarrassing:rolleyes:
