I am sooooo ticked at DH...he has a habit of not wearing his seatbelt when driving...I have told him about that before...I told him to MAKE SURE he was wearing one these next 2 weeks since they are cracking down..

Well sure enough...DH got a ticket this morning....$114....there goes his bonus...

SO be careful out there...and buckle up!!

If he wore it all the time, you wouldn't have to remind him - or worry about the crackdown.

Count it as a blessing. He will wear it next time for fear of a ticket and maybe it will save his life.

I know, I know...I have told him about it before...and your right, I shouldnt have to...but he has it in his head that he should not be forced to wear it, it should be a choice...but that is besides the point..

I am just mainly venting...I am LIVID!.

I was 16 when I got a seatbelt ticket. I thought I was too cool and didn't need one. To this day I am thankful that I got that ticket because from that day forward I always have my seatbelt on in the car.

Does he now understand that it is Florida law? It is a great revenue generator as well. And, it is not a choice that a driver can make.

Sorry he got a ticket. But I hope he will wear his seatbelt. It might save his life.

Once you get used to wearing it all the time, it just becomes a habit.

I can't imagine driving off in my vehicle without my seatbelt on.
(I would feel nakid,)

Not necessarily. I don't wear mine. Will not wear mine. I pay my ticket when I get one. Like I tell my dd, if you don't follow the rules then don't fuss when you have to pay the penalty. Pay the fine, and then fuss about how they are making money off their intrusion into my life. In Florida, you have to wear a seatbelt but don't have to wear a helmet. Yeah that makes sense. It is a revenue generator. That is all.

That is how my DH feels...and i understand...and he does wear his sometimes, and it HAS saved him in the past when he rolled our car many many years ago, its just the principal of it.

He was running late(again, his fault) and probably just forgot...Gotta get the $$ into the FL budget somehow...

Driving home with a friend while in highschool from work one Friday night....

I didnt have it buckled and my friend (who was driving) told me to buckle it....I did as he asked (it wasnt -- I dont think -- a law here yet back in 1989 and I typically didnt wear it). 5 minutes later a driver ran a red light and plowed into our car sending us into a light pole.

I dont know what would have happened to me had I not had my seat belt that night and I'm glad that I don't have to know. If he hadnt told me to put it on, I would not have been wearing it. I've worn it EVERY day since that happened.

Years ago - I was about 12 - my parents were in an accident. They always wore seatbelts but for some reason my mother didn't have hers on. A driver ran a stop sign and hit them. My mother hit the windshield. Thank goodness she didn't go through it.

We've all worn them religiously since then.

My car has one of those bells that ding all the time until you put it on, so its forced upon me on by my car.

I can understand not wearing one. Some people don't want the government telling them what they HAVE to do - even if not doing it endangers you.

I actually don't care for seatbelt or helmet laws because it does venture into a nannystate and revenue generator. I do think they should exist for kids since they can't make the decision for themselves and shouldn't be held accountable for their parents' stupidity. However, I do think that insurance - health, car, life - would not have to pay out for any injuries or death related to non-use of helmets and seatbelts. You chose to take the risk of flying through the windshield, you pay the price.

I always wear one. I've known too many people lose their lives or suffer needless injuries because they weren't. Always remember - the only person who survived the Princess Diana crash was the only one wearing a seatbelt.

I don't necessarily understand the helmet law because you are only putting yourself at risk by not wearing one (I would NEVER ride without one though, and think it is stupid to do so.) However, a seat belt protects not only you, but the other passengers in the car. If you have an accident and are not wearing one, you can be thrown around the car and possibly crush another passenger (such as your child!).

Law or not, in my car EVERY passenger is required to wear one, no matter which seat they are sitting in. And my child is not allowed to ride in a car with anyone that does not have their seatbelt on either.

.

Seatbelts saved my entire family last year when we rolled our SUV and camper. Witnesses thought we were all dead, but no! The crash blew out all the windows and everything inside the car was thrown out, but the seatbelts did what they were designed to do--keep us in the safety of our car. I would hate to even think what could have happened if someone were ejected and had the camper or SUV roll over them.:scared1:

Are you NOT wearing a seatbelt because you don't want the government intruding into your life, or because you think wearing a seatbelt serves no purpose?

I've been in two auto accidents where if I had not been wearing a seatbelt, I would have probably been thrown through the windshield or at least had severe head and body injuries from being tossed around inside the car during roll-over.

Yes, ticketing for not wearing one's seatbelt is a revenue generator, but my life, and anyone riding in my vehicle as a passenger, is more important to me than money or government intrusion.

And the reason you won't wear a seatbelt is...?

seriously, I wear it because it could possibly save my life, it has nothing to do with the law. There's pretty much zero reason not to wear one.

I understand your saying it's the principal of it, but if it has been proven to him that it did in fact save his life, then the fact that it seems like government intrustion would seem trivial, in the case of him being here TODAY because he was wearing a seatbelt. JMO

Taking your stand against the govt' ordering you to do it is more important than saving your own life?

Interesting.
