plan to spend a sunday in october at clearwater beach. i was looking at having dinner in a casual restaurant on the beach with outdoor seating for sunset. will it be too crowded? would we be better off having early dinner and then enjoying sunset on beach? and do you have any suggestions? Frenchy's Rockaway Grill keeps coming to mind. tia:)

We had 2 really good dinners at Crabby Bill's, one across the street from the Clearwater Pier and one further down going towards North Redington Beach. Both were indoor seating. We walked down to the end of the pier, I think it was 50 cents per person, and watched the sunset. AWESOME! I will try and post a pic or two here.

another vote for Crabby Bills. We were there twice in a 24 hour period--we liked it that much. Not fancy, very casual, and pretty darn good. I had the grouper.

We ate at the one right by the pier.
Have fun!

Lived in Clearwater for 30 years.

The best is Frenchy's Rock-a-way at north end of beach.

Ask for a "rail seat" when checking-in for the best seats on the deck. Unless you want to sit inside.

Food is great! Sunset is great! Veiw of the beach is great! Nothing fancy...some people might still be in bathing suits. Live music at night.

(there are 5 Frenchy restruants make sure you get the right one! only rock-a-way is right on the beach)

Crabby bills is good but across the street from the beach...its not the same as being on the sand :)

thanks for the info. I looked at Frenchy's website and it is the place for us:cool1:

Its a lot of fun. :woohoo:

For the sunset...get there a few minutes early. (when? can't say..but you know what I mean)
:beach:
Its funny how 20 minutes late, can make for a one-hour wait to get a good table.

Also....main parking fills up some times. Don't panic... there is a huge secondary lot across from the fire station. but you can't see it unless you know where to look

.

another vote for rockaway grill on the beach. GREAT food and if you like oysters, you have to try their rockaway oysters - they are FABULOUS!!! I also highly recommend their fried shrimp. i don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu though!!! :thumbsup2

You can't go wrong with either place...If you want right on the beach Frenchy's Rock-A-Way Grille is the best place...Crabby Bills you CAN sit outside but you are directly across the street from beach. My girlfriends that live in Tampa drive over to Clearwater to eat at both places frequently...so worth the drive :)

Frenchy's has a great Grouper sandwich and Crabby Bills has the best Conch Fritters around. Both places have great peel and eat shrimp....Enjoy....

Another Clearwater resident voting for Frenchy's Rock-A-Way. Also, Markstudy is right, the shecrab soup is to die for!

Just got back from Clearwater Beach. Ate at Frenchy's on the beach-it was wonderful. Great She-crab soup and grouper sandwiches. Great view of the sunset. Lucked out on getting a great outside table. We were runing late. Also would recommend The Pavilion just down the beach from Frenchys. Oh the memories. :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:
