Cleaning=Self-Cleaning your Hotel Room or Villa

Does anybody go into "disinfect mode" once they arrive to their hotel or villa? I have a habit of disinfecting the toilets and the bath tubs. Just curious.

I am a sahm, so cleaning and cooking, etc is what I do all the time - when I go on vacation I want to NOT cook or clean! I just pray things are neat and clean.

We stay in DVC resorts, so we make our own beds, hang up our towels and may run a load or two of laundry each day so we always have clean clothing. But I don't reclean the tub, jacuzzi, toilets, etc.

YES! I bring lysol wipes and spray lysol. i do the entire bathroom, including the floor. then i wipe every light switch, door knob, table surface, etc, etc, and i spray the bedspreads and chairs. I know - kind of crazy. i probably wouldn't even think of germs if it weren't for my dd who gets sick fairly easily and gets VERY sick and has seizures when that happens. so it's always on my mind for that reason. dh and i are insane with the purell in the parks. don't know if any of that helps, but it makes us feel like we're doing something for a situation that's sort of out of our control as parents. and again, if it weren't for dd, i don't think i'd even think of it.

Nope not me. I used to do those things when our youngest was a baby, but it seemed the more I tried to keep everything sanitary, the more we all got sick. Now I leave it to chance and very rarely do any of us even catch a cold.

We are a very neat vacationing famiy but I have never re-cleaned the room or bathroom. That being said - after reading these boards for awhile maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to pack the disinfecting wipes. I never used to really think too much about germs & other yucky things.

I'm with bellebud on this one. Bleach wipes are an automatic on my packing list and I wipe down basically anything that everyone who has ever stayed in the room would have logically touched. I only started doing this since my daughter was born (with the exception of immediately removing the bed quilt...my mother always did that too), but it makes a lot of sense to me and only takes a few minutes.

lol... no. But i do pre clean before the maid comes. I find myself fixing up the bed, straightening the chairs... my partner is like "Can we leave yet...we are paying somebody to do this". lol

I bring disinfecting wipes and wipe the toilet seat, remote control, telephone and doorknobs. I am really not a clean freak or germaphobe. It just makes me feel better.

Nope. You walk around outside, sit in chairs others have sat in, touch doors others have touched, and on and on and on......you're already pretty contaminated just from living and breathing.

Nope, guess I live on the wild side. And my question about the bedspread, is if everyone removes the bedspread, (which I usually will pull down and not use, but if I get really cold at night, I pull it up carefully), anyway, if everyone takes off the bedspread, then wouldn't the blanket be filthy???

We do kind of "look the bedsheets" etc. over to be sure, but if all looks clean........... I agree, after reading these boards, I started noticing all the things that many people touch and it was driving me nuts, so I just went back to my "wild" self. Unless I or a family member NEEDED to be so aware, I guess I figure germs are everywhere.

Nope can't be bothered. All of us are used to germs and don't get sick that often unlike my OCD girl friend who I love dearly(now that we are no longer room mates and are best friends) who has to re-clean rooms with anti-bacterial stuff and her kids are sick a lot! Don't know if it is because of the super cleanness on her part or the normal clean on my part but the difference for the kids makes me go HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Wonder if there is a study out on it.

Nah. Our rooms have always been clean. It's my vacation so I let someone else clean the room

OK, I confess.... I have done the Lysol thing for years! I just can't help it!

That said, I just give everything a spray and that's that. It makes me feel better!

Nope - I don't. I do tend to be a little OCD about handwashing, and that's all I try to worry about or I'd drive myself nuts.
