Hello all, we are shopping for an Alaska Cruise on the Wonder .. yikes some serious coin to sail next summer. I digress, can anyone comment on the difference between a Cat 9c and 9d? It sees as though all 9c's have one large porthole window (this works), while the 9d's have two portholes (we will pass).

If I get a GTY 9c, would hope that I would be guaranteed at least one large porthole window, is this a safe bet? Really dont care what end of the ship we are on.

One final question, has anyone stayed in a Deluxe Inside stateroom to Alaska? Thinking that is get 2 porthole windows we might as well just book an Inside Stateroom for much less as its basically the same space and room layout?

Anyone comments would be greatly appreciated !

We haven't done Alaska yet, but we have been on Wonder twice. First time deluxe inside stateroom and 2nd time was a 9c. Personally, we will always get ocean view just to be able to have a view. We loved the large porthole and personally do not want the 2 small portholes. I have never done a guaranteed stateroom so maybe someone else can answer that part to your question.

I don't think the room layout is the same in an interior room and a oceanview room. Interior rooms have the bed against the far wall, with the seating (sofa) area immediately upon entering the room.

Oceanviews have the bed area first, with the sofa area closer to the window. This is a 9D

And a 9B (9Cs & 9as have the same layout)

We just spent 2 weeks in a 9D on Deck 1. We had no problem with the location or cabin. Have stayed on Deck 2 several times in a 9C and enjoyed that also.

We loved our 9D on Deck 1 (yes, two portholes) on our Alaska so much that we booked the same room for our Panama Cruise in October. Unfortunately, our room was out of commission and we were "upgraded" to the 9C (yes, 1 larger porthole) on Deck 2. We preferred the 9D on Deck 1. It was A LOT quieter. We liked being on the same floor as most of our disembarkations. There were far fewer people and it was very easy to get an elevator. I would not hesitate to book a 9D again.

Our favorite room by far on the classic ships is a 9C on deck 2. Nice size room, the large porthole is way better than two small portholes, and we like the aft part of the ship which seems convenient to everything. Really. In our cruises we've never been bothered by any noise in the halls.

If I may, though, I have a bit of advice for Alaska. That is the only cruise itinerary where I'd use another line. First, the price for a balcony on anything else I've ever checked is way (thousands) less than a porthole on Disney. Our Alaska cruise is the only one we've been on where a balcony was absolutely fantastic and absolutely worth the extra expense. Second, Disney doesn't go into Glacier Bay, which is by far the highlight of our trip to Alaska.

To my understanding, if you have a GTY 9C, you are guaranteed that category or better, so you should not end up with a 9D.

From the Disney cruise line website for a GTY 9C for our Alaskan cruise: "We’ll select your stateroom for you at a later time. Please rest assured that while you cannot select a specific stateroom, you’ll have one assigned to you when you arrive at the ship. Your exact stateroom will be in the category chosen or a higher category."
