Hi, I looked for something on this, but couldn't find any posts. I was wondering....my oldest son (13) is a horror movie buff, would this be a good place to eat while visiting US? Also, my youngest (10) is a big chicken, is the cafe scarey (i.e. do creatures walk around), or is it more "humorous"? Thanks for your imput!

The cafe isn't scary at all. Think of it as sort of a small monster "Planet Hollywood". Just various displays, props, and and TVs running with classic clips. It is a good place for a classic horror fan to eat though.

Sounds like *my* boys would like it. Thanks

Oh so many restaurants to try and so few meals a day.:scratchin

Not to spoil your fun but we have been going to WDW and Universal every year for the last 12 years. We have tried numerous places and we thought this was one of the worse for actual food. If your are going for the atmosphere go and enjoy we did. Just do not expect the food to be very good.

There are alot of reports of good ckicken & pizza, but all I can vouch for is the Mardi Gras Gumbo..... it's very good when you need it the most! You get the french bread to wipe out the bowl too.

Jim, I had a great mardi gras meal there last april, complete with spicy sausages and crawfish!!

Thanks for the reviews, I really appreciate it! I think we'll "risk" the food, and go for the atmosphere. My 14 & 10 yo's wouldn't know "good" food if it bit them on the nose...they think chicken nuggets from Mickey-D's is gourmet!

TinkKel, I know what you mean. My son lives on those things. Thank God they now actually have real white meat in them! LOL.....

I know I'm in the minority, but I enjoy eating at the Monster Cafe! The props on display and the comfy booths are great! In the past few years, they real dishes and silverware have been replaced with plastic, and I haven't seen as many monster characters walking around, though!

Last August we ordered two 1/2 roasted chicken dinners, and split the food among the 5 of us, and it was an adequate lunch.

Monsters walking around? I thought they did not have that. But it sounds cool. Just not sure if my 3 year old would like that!

I used to LOVE the Monsters Cafe (especially during HHN...the cooks would throw beads at you!), but the last two visits that I've had there have been pretty gross. The food was cold and tasteless. Even their huge apple pie slices weren't that good, and that's one of my favorite desserts at Universal!

Go to Burger Digs at IOA. It's worth it. :)

BTW...I'm back. Let the postings roll! :)

Welcome back Steph! We missed ya! How can you mess up apple pie? That is scary. LOL.... Pardon the pun. I guess we will have to go for the atmosphere if nothing else.

LOL...well, the last time I ate the pie at Monsters Cafe (in September), the pie looked like it had been sitting on the counter for about two weeks. It was...well...runny looking, and had a REALLY hard crust. It sort of looked like they tried to hide the hideous parts of it by sprinkling some powdered sugar on it, and they made it taste like clay.

I picked THAT piece of pie 'cause the one in front of it looked worse :) And I figured that Universal couldn't mess that up :)

When you go to the Monsters Cafe,be sure to check out all the rooms for they are all different and fun..Also I enjoyed the pizza it was guite tasty.Since your son is a monster movie buff,I just bet you will be eating there more than once. What can I xay, even the sign on the bathrooms are cute.::yes:: ::yes::

Where is the Monster's Cafe located? I can't find it listed on Universal's site. Does it go by another name? TIA
