Hi!
My family stayed there this past spring. I thought it was a really cute version of a "Pop Century-like" hotel. The furnishings in the room were all new, we had a fridge and microwave oven also, and free internet. There was no free breakfast at that time. The floor in the room is tiled, not carpeted, which I found actually to be more sanitary.
As for the waterpark---we loved it!! It's hard to pull kids away from this neat place, so we didn't even try to do the parks during our stay---the water park was the destination for us. I wouldn't even try to go to Disney, Universal, etc. when I've already paid for a nice hotel with an amazing waterpark. There is a buffet breakfast for which we were given 1/2 price coupons (we didn't use though), and there is also a business room with free use of a computer on property. I got a non-alcoholic strawberry frozen drink (not a drinker) from the tiki bar, and watched my child happily playing in the lazy river.
It is a safe area, though on the outskirts of Kissimmee. The Florida Turnpike will drop you right off at a light next to the resort. Take a right at this intersection and look closely for the signs. You're right at it. We found a Cici's Pizza up the road on 192, and there's also a variety of the regular burger joints too. There's a K-Mart within driving distance (and Big Lots and Family Dollar) for anything you forgot to bring.
I highly recommend this place, but I do know that the resort fee has gone up to $12 for the time being. I paid $8 and thought it to be a bargain. I wish Disney could figure out how to do the same with some of their value resorts.
