Not looking for open season on the tipping issues again folks. Just a real simple question please.

We do NOT carry cash with us at WDW (DH might keep a few ones in his pocket but thats it). Can I charge the tip to my KTTW card or to a credit card? We will probably have a balance over the amount of our DDP as we like a cocktail with our meals and those are not covered. I do not want to be in a situation where we have no means of leaving a tip for a server. Thanks for your help!

I think most, but not all (I remember reading on here that a few non-owned Disney restaurants will not charge tips on the KTTW card) will charge the tip back to your room.

We always stick a $20 in my lanyard that we carry the KTTW cards in. There are kiosks around that sell coffee, etc that only take cash. There have also been times that the entire system goes down and cards can't be charged (although obviously rare). It may be safer to carry a bit of cash on you just to be safe.

:)

Even the non-Disney restaurants will take a credit card for your cocktails, and you can add a tip there...

Yes you can tip on your KTTK card, but it is my understanding from reading here that your server will need to know you want to do this BEFORE they total out your bill(tell them when you give them the card). It seems that once they close the bill thay cannot add the tip on, several posters have said that they were asked by their server how they wanted to pay the tip(some were offended by this), they were doing this because of the way the computers were set up(not being able to reopen a bill to add a tip)

You can hook up your credit card to your room key (Key to the World Card) when you check in. This will not be a problem at all.

They can reopen the ticket but usually someone on the management team needs to do this so its a hassle for them. In my opinion though, if they screwed up, oh well, they need to fix it then.

In May we charged ALL our tips, snacks, EVERYTHING on our KTTW cards. Soooo convenient, but also soooo dangerous! :rotfl2:

I would take Happy's advice before mine, but I know regarding cc's, that you cannot simply put a tip on the card without SOME sort of purchase (even 1cent will work as a purchase.) The reason behind that is that it is the same as a cash advance without the purchase. It may be different for the kttk card linked to a cc.

I've never heard of this...I've charged tips to just my credit card and it's never shown as a cash advance.

Wow - I'm reading that it's simply a system thing and not a "screw up".

But yes, you can charge the tip to your room key but it could possibly require a bit extra on the restaurant's part. That part is more than likely "behind the scenes" so the guest doesn't see it so people who have charged their tips to the cards don't even know that it's happening.

The thing with these boards is that we sometimes know things that Disney really doesn't want us to know. They don't want us to know that opening up the ticket causes some extra steps. But they do it anyway and if we know about it, I don't think that's a "screw up".

Thank you all for your input. I will check with DD and let you know what I hear and also with the restaurants as we arrive just to make sure. I really think that since we will have cocktails (other than at LTT since there is no alcohol on site) we should be okay but I really dont' want to stiff someone and if it did happen, I would make sure to send money back over via onsite courier or something.

The podcast recently said that on the DDP, at the Pepper Market you cant add the gratuity to you KTTW so you need to use cash. Thats the only exception I'm aware of tho! :)
