I am planning my Univesal trip this July. I am a newbie in universal but a Disney veteran! I purchased gift certificates from clear channel for the following places.....
Pastamore (2)
The kitchen at Hard rock ( 2..lunch only)
Motown cafe(1)
all of these are $50 gift cert. We are a family of 5 (kids,17,15,10)
If anyone can give my any tips or info I would love it!
Thanks...:sunny:

From personal experience. This past may I used several of the gc's . The motown gc's were great for the price. But when you are using them I would keep a clear track of how much you are spending. The costs of the meals add up very quickly and you could for a family of five wind up with a 100 tab plus tax and tip. Then you minus your gc and you wind up with a 70 dollar tab. Recommendation: If you are getting drinks, appetizer, entrees, and dessert, ask to use two gc's at once or bring plenty of money to pay for the rest. Second, piece of advice beware of the upsell. The first time we were there I told them we had the gc's upfront and the waiter kept trying to get us to order the most expensive items. Resist the temptation. Third, unless you are going to be using two gc's at one time don't tell them upfront that you have them. Wait until they present you with the check and then tell them you have it. I have found I get better quality of service if I wait to present it at the end.

Ps. try the philly cheese steak. It is wonderful and huge with tones of fries . It is easily shareable. And only 10.00 dollars .

I also used gc's for hardrock cafe. For this also I would suggest not telling you have them til the end of the meal unless you are using more than one. If your kids like pepperoni pizza I would suggest them order pepperoni pizza off of the kids meal at only 5.99 including drinks it is a great deal. And oh my goodness the pizza is huge big enough for even an adult. For me and my two boys we only needed one 25 dollar gc and enough to pay the tip. great bargain here.

I also used gc's for nascar cafe. For this also I would suggest not telling you have gc's unless you are using more than one. Same reasons as above. Here the kids ordered off of the kids meal I think the kids meals were 6.99 including entree, fries, drink. I usually ordered the bacon cheeseburger meal with a drink and for the 3 of us always managed to squeak under the 25.00 dollars and only having to pay the tip.

I plan on getting them for my future trip next year just hope they have them available. Next year though I am going to have buy a few extra as my husband will be traveling with my sons and myself this time.Gotta love savin all that dough.

If you guys like Buffalo wings, we found Motown's to be the best we had at Citywalk /US.

I've been to all three and I like pastamore the best. maybe it's because I like Italian food, but the service there was much better than any reastaurant that I have been to at citywalk. at HRC I sent back a margarita that was just horrible. the server practically threw my change at me on the table (she got a 2 cent tip out of that) and at Motown I had to wave down a server to FIND my server to refill my drink. :( Linda

I just wanted to thank all of you for such valuable info..I will make sure I present my certificate at the end of meal, order the wings, cheeseteak and fries to split and luckily enough iI am holding 2 pasramore certificates!! Thanks again!!

Our worst meal was at the HARD ROCK CAFE. My kids love chicken fingers and we wound up having to order something else for them. TheY used processed "chicken patties" as opposed to real white meat/chicken breast" chunks. I ordered the steak fajitas (just OK). MY favorite places were Latin Quarters and Pastamore.

I had given this restaurant some thought but my husband wasn't interested. could you provide some info please... Thanks

:earsgirl:

Latin Quarter's signiture dish is the "churrasco steak" it's delicious I also ordered the Pork Loin and my wife ordered a steak, vegetable shishkobob that was great also. They also give you as you sit down warm cuban buns with garlic butter. My kids had chicken fingers. Dishes range from $14.95 to about $27.99.

We love the Latin Quarter! It gets an A+ for atmosphere and entertainment alone! When we ate there, they had Salsa Dancers performing!

We are plannning on eating at the Nascar Cafe on our trip in a few weeks and I was just wondering if anyone had any comments on the food , and what it is like in the resturaunt. Any info would be greatly appericated!!! Thanks Pixie-Girl:Pinkbounc :bounce:

That's too bad some of you had a bad meal or service at HRC.
We arrived at noon just before the crowd hit, had a friendly server, and ordered apps. We had the Jumbo Combo, Nachos, and a salad. The Jumbo Combo is da bomb, the Nachos were ok, and the salad was good. Here's the menu to look at.

I'd say to replace the nachos with a pizza or something else.
And yes, everything adds up because each soft drink is like $3.

We have GCs for the Latin quarter. What is the churasco steak?? sounds good. Also, when do you think they have salsa dancers? Is it on a certain night of the week? I would like to go at that time.

:)
I used 3 $50 GC on our trip in late June at Pastamore, Nascar Cafe, and the Kitchen. Food quality rated 1-the Kitchen, 2-Pastamore,3-Nascar Cafe. Not that Nascar was bad but more of a quicky meal than a sit down. We were a family of 5 (2A,3K 17,17,3). Spent an extra $35 at the Kitchen but came home with lots of leftovers for that night and we were also tempted by the yummy looking desserts they kept walking around with. Spent an extra $10 at Pastamore, also had leftovers.Spent an extra $20 at Nascar no leftovers but we were full. We used these as our big meal of the day and found they were real $$ savers. We also ate at NBA city(very good, $65) and Hard Rock Cafe(good,$60).Used AAA discount at Hard Rock Cafe. Stayed CL at RPR and used that for breakfast and snacking.

Maggie,

To answer your question, the steak is really, really good. It is skirt steak, but marinated and grilled. You definitely also want to try the paella. That is yellow rice with seafood (mussels, scallops, shrimp, lobster) - I can't tell you how wonderful this was. We live in Miami, and my husband is Cuban and has been eating paella all his life, and he STILL talks about it. Portions are huge, atmosphere is great. My fav restaurant next to Tchop.

Could you tell me where you get these gift certificates at and could I get one for Margaritaville?

Thanks in advance!

We ate there on our recent trip (6/26). Thought food was good - atmosphere was nice. Oldest daughter and grandson LOVES Nascar - so the theming was perfect for them.

We had 2 - $25 GC - and while they said you could only use one - I asked the server BEFORE we ordered for seperate bills - and she said NO PROBLEM - I'll work with you....and took both GC's for one bill

:D Thanks for the reply:D My husband and kids are big fans of nascar too. It sounds like fun ! Pixie-Girl:wave:

Give NBA City a try. We didn't expect much from this place but were really surprised by the top quality. We had the best meal at Universal there a couple of weeks ago. The 4 Towers Cheescake dessert was to die for. It was the best dessert I have eaten ANYWHERE!
