My Hubby got the letter today they want to charge him a annual fee. I said no way I know his credit score will drop some but I refuse to pay a annual fee for it. I have the same card but different account and they are not charging me a annual fee. I guess because I use mine .I really hate citi bank for what they are doing . I let them know that I thought it was awful for them to charge us.

I'll be doing the same thing as the credit card companies begin to charge annual fees. I do have an AmEx card, but it will be gone soon too. I used to get enough back that I felt it was worthwhile, but it's really lost the allure. :rotfl:

I got the letter on Thurs and I called and cancelled. I really don't hardly use the card and they gave me no problem at all closing it when they looked at my history. I use the Disney Visa and a Chase M/C that gives me 5% rewards on gas, food, pharmacy purchases...I never use the Citi.

I have had my Citi card for almost 20 years and have never paid an annual fee. I got the letter yesterday and I called and talked to a CSR and I gave him a bit of heck, so much so he transferred me to a supervisor and after how I explained that I refuse to pay annual fee for the privalage of caring their card, and that this is a crappy way of treating a 20 year customer she put me on hold for a couple of minutes. When she came back on she told me it was taken care of, the annual fee has now been waived for my account as I have been an "outstanding customer". Of couse I took her name, her rep number and wrote that down with the date and time I called in case I still need to argue this latter for some reason.

If anyone else gets this letter, call them and see if they will waive it for you, you never know.

I am not worried about it too much I know his score will come back up thats just one less card we have to worry about I will stay with my chase and discover card. Its just the point if you do not use it they are going to charge you just to have it. All this mess is the credit cards fault any way giving credit cards out to people who were not qualified for them the people with good credit are paying for their mistakes.

I got the letter too, my citibank was my first credit card when I went to college 20 yrs ago. I was going to cancel...but now that I hear someone got the fee waived, I may give it a try. I don't use the card often, mostly for balance transfers because they always give me great BT rates.

Check out your local credit union as they very often have cards with no fees and much lower rates than big banks.

Due to the new regulations that Congress put into place, they expect most - if not all - cards to add annual fees to make up for the lost fees they are no longer allowed to charge.

And I expect to get rid of most - if not all - of my cards. :lmao:

Seriously, I'll keep the longest-lived one for travel emergencies, but other than that, why bother? I can likely get a decent card through my credit union that won't charge a fee. I'll keep an oldie so my FICO doesn't take such a big hit, just in case, but I wouldn't mind getting rid of some cards. Buh-bye! :wave2:

I received the annual fee letter also. I am trying to decide what I am going to do. I have had this card for a long time-at least 15 yrs and the credit line is very high. I do not want closing it to hurt my credit score. What to do..what to do??

The letter did say that if I used the card-$2400 in a year they would reverse the annual fee. I guess if I used that card all the time I could charge that much.

oh Boy! I a citi card and havent recieved a letter yet. I haver the platinum dividends card. Anyone else have that one , that recieved a letter?

We got that letter today also, I don't think that we have used that card in years because I couldn't even figure out which one it was until I looked and found the unused cards in my DH's desk. We will definitely be canceling this card seeing that we don't even use it, I'm not paying them $60 so that we can keep the cards in the desk:lmao:.

Yeah, I just canceled mine. I think I got it a couple of years ago for a 0% transfer offer and hadn't used it since I paid it off. I think I have another citi-card somewhere that I'm not using. I need to keep track of any other letters that come.

Thanks for the heads-up :thanks: I have a Citi card and will now keep a close eye on any mail.

So it wasn't just me. I'm furious about this! Citi was my oldest card and I've never had a late payment and now they want me to pay $60 to use it? And for what??? They don't even give me any rewards and their percentage rate is twice my Disney visa. I'm cancelling tomorrow.

I got something in the mail from them but haven't used the card for years and years so I threw it away. I'm assuming it was the same letter everyone else received so I guess I better cancel the card so can someone please post their telephone number

I have a Citi card.. Diamond Preferred Rewards card, IIRC. I haven't received the letter yet. I use it every single month and always pay it off. I know my credit score is high 700's/low 800's. If I get the letter I will be very po'd. I've been with them for about 15 years so I'm kind of stuck as far as canceling since it's my oldest card. I hate to take the hit on the FICO, but I might have to if necessary.

Now when we use our AmEx, they want us to pay in full at every billing cycle. So I guess we won't be using those cards anymore. But I just got a Disney card and a AirTrans Visa. AmEx's loss will be their gain.
