Circumventing rules to "afford" a WDW vacation..

I wouldn't say she's attacking "boards" maybe pointing out threads not entire boards.

Just my two cents...

Doesn't sound quite as innocent as you make it sound. She attacks the restuarant board, the resort board, the theme parks board, and the budget board as all being cheaters.

You are right. The trip planning boards are not full of "cheaters". In general, people on those boards are only looking for legitimate ways to save money.

I am all for bending the rules a little.

Frankly, the cost of this vacation is going to be outrageous!

Tickets to Disney alone are going to be $750 for the five of us (we are getting three one day tickets), not to mention $1000 for accomodations, and probably $800 for airfare. This doesn't include food, any other attractions, souvenirs, NOTHING.

We are going to be spending close to FIVE MONTHS RENT on this vacation, so I don't think bending the rules a little will hurt.

I don't know HOW people can afford to go every year, or more than a few times a year at that!

So no I don't think bending the rules a little bit is wrong - I wouldn't lie about the ages, but bringing an extra person into a room or bringing food into the parks I have no problem with.

I personally have not passed my 3 year old off as a 2 year old at any Disney park, I have not had more people in my room than the maximum, and I have not picnicked in the parks.

But ... I am a "live and let live" kind of person. If someone else wants to pack in a sandwich, pass their 3 year old as a 2 year old, 10 year old as a 9 year old or have 5 to a room, that's their business.

This kind of thread always turns into holier-than-thou name calling: "liar", "cheat", "thief" are some of the perennial favorites. The funny thing is that I don't know of anyone who does not stretch "the rules" at one time or another to suit their own needs, whatever those rules may be.

This kind of reminds me of the old joke:

A dirty old man goes up to a cutie and asks if she would consider sleeping with him for $1,000,000? She says that she would consider it. So he counters, how about $50? She says what kind of girl do you think I am? He responds, we know what kind of girl you are. We're just negotiating a price.

So, a little cheating is still cheating and we know "what kind of girl you are".

A Disney Club card will get you discounts on tickets, hotels and dining. DVC will get you prepaid lodging. There are numerous ticket options that can save you money. All of these are not cheating.

If you have to cheat to go, what are you teaching your kids? Maybe you need to rethink your plan.

Speaking of lying, what about those who know how to beat the system by getting wheelchairs in order to get on the rides without waiting in line.

It has been 5 years since I was last there and maybe things have changed, but I think the wheelchair line was longer than the regular line.

My friend had twisted her leg in the park, so they gave us a wheelchair to use for the rest of the day and we met some people who told us that is what they do.

I actually saw a group of 12 or more pushing this poor old woman who I don't believe knew where she was much less having a good time. As long as you are with someone with a wheelchair you all get at the front of the line.

Sorry, just venting.
