Just an FYI, DD the CM called me from Grand Cayman yesterday afternoon as the Magic was leaving port. We have Cingular service since I work for them but she hadn't been able to call till she got a new Samsung GSM phone for her birthday before returning to the ship.

Probably some other carriers will also work from Grand Cayman but you probably need one of the newer phone sets and need international service turned on.

I won't get the bill for these minutes for another month so don't know if they will be counted as part of my plan or billed separately. I'll post when I know.

Just a followup to my mom's post... I don't remember if I'd ever tried calling from Grand Cayman on my old phone. I think I just expected it not to work. So who knows? But it did work yesterday, for those wondering.

I know Cingular also works from St. Thomas b/c a friend whom DH and I have cruised with before called us from there 3 weeks ago to taunt us. ;) They called from sailaway, and had signal for about 10 miles out, I think

As we were pulling into Cozumel my cell phone went off. We use ATT. I had a nice chat. Dont' have a clue how much it costs. Wes

We've always had great cell service from St. Thomas even with an old phone but adding Grand Cayman is a bonus. With DD on the ship, I miss talking to her like I do when she's in town on vacation.

FYI, on our plan, calls from St. Thomas are part of our regular minutes so no extra charges.

We have Cingular and placed 3 calls from Cozumel last year. When we got the bill, we were charged approximately $28 for the three calls.

Guess I'll have to wait and see what the charges are if any. Unfortunately she called on Tuesday, July 6th and our billing date is the 3rd so we won't know till August. Oh well, it will be interesting.

No offense, but you WORK for Cingular and you don't know what they charge for calls?
Yikes, and I thought Verizon was tough to figure outQQ

Hey tvguy, I'm a techie. In my defense, I work in the IT department and don't keep up with the rates like someone in sales or customer service would. The last time I checked the rates were $.79 per minute from the Caribbean except for US Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico. Also, since she's using an Employee Rate Plan phone the charges are different than the ones published for our customers - some things included and some not. Besides, I want to leave the phone lines to customer service free for our customers. ::yes::

For all Cingular customers, calls from the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas) and Puerto Rico (San Juan later this summer) are included in their minutes if they're on a Cingular Nation plan.
